That's just it though. Why not simply create them at such high casting costs with powerful effects? EDH is all about Timmy-Vorthos moments. Besides, we have Oldwalker cards for Teferi and Freylaise which were celebrated. No one who wants to play these character cards is going to look at a 15 or heck 100 CMC Yawgmoth and think "oh man, this isn't Modern playable at all, what a disappointment." Come on now.
Well, who says we won't see it? It seems like Wizards JUST caught on that people want their cards to be Vorthos-y, and are adjusting their Commander products accordingly.
Honestly, it's happening at a glacial pace. The last Commander product had Daxos, who we already have a card for, as a zombie, and that's basically it. The rest were new "characters" with barely any flavor or story behind them. The only Commander product that came close was 2014 which was a Vorthos treasure trove. But it wasn't done as thoroughly with the 2015 series. If the next one is just another feature of stale new characters... IDK, I just don't like being wrapped up with past characters instead of looking to the future ones.
Remember that Wizards works two years in advance. Since everyone seemed to enjoy the old characters who never got a card getting one I'm pretty sure we will be getting more.
Also remember the theme of the commander decks. 2014 was old characters we never got as cards/ planeswalker commanders (1/5 being a character we never got as a card, 2/5 being character who we won't know if we'd ever see in planeswalker card form again and 1/5 was a new character. Because of tricky the design is for these cards I understand why not all of them where characters who had never been in card before.) Commodore 2015 was looking at/checking in with past planes with Alara, Theros, Ravnica and Kamigawa being featured.
I do have one odd note: I'm not convinced that ANY of Magic's vampires are undead. The Zendikar lore says those ones aren't, and Ravi got vamped by Baron Sengir without losing her Spark. I think that may just be how vampirism is in the multiverse.
Otherwise, good stuff, and I appreciate the soft touch around the ambiguities of the Cursemute.
Pretty sure the Grixis/Alara and Ravnica ones are undead.
Anyways thank you for the Innistrad one! I have friends who aren't into the story much asking about Innistrad now its back and its useful just to point them here, since Innistrad had no real story.
How do you imagine Creative will link the two blocks? Jace doesn't have any real motivations to go to Innistrad right now. The natural thing for him would be to go back to Ravnica to uphold/be the law after the Eldrazi Titans are defeated. Also, Sorin doesn't have any reason to approach the Gatewatch for help. Will Jace just take to hopping from plane to plane searching for trouble? Will he have time to sleep/bone Emmara Tandris? Will the "Nahiri is Avacyn" rumors ever die out? I hope Creative addresses all these really important questions.
Per the Zendikar Art Book, Jace goes to Innistrad to look for Sorin & Nahiri while the rest of the Gatewatch stay on Zendikar to clean up the remaining eldrazi spawn/drones
It was planted in the conversion between Ugin and Jace.
Werewolves haven't been wiped out, they're still alive and well
So basically "Avacyn Restored" wasn't a set and didn't happen.
I mean, I know that Avacyn didn't remove all werewolves, but their numbers should have been decreased significantly, so that they shouldn't be a major part of the set. But here we go. Not only do we get DFC back, which is literally one of the worst mechanics ever designed, possibly only eclypsed by mini-games, but they also kind of retcon really important plot points in a setting they return to. [/rant]
They were intentionally pretty vague about the fate of the werewolves in AVR, and mechanically they didn't include them in AVR iirc because they like to make third sets have some sort of drastic difference in design, and no dfcs was one of AVR's things. so it shouldn't really be a surprise or even reallyvery contradictory to established information. They've been far more blatant in the past
They even said many of the werewolves who wanted say werewolves fled and went into hiding. The fact they are coming back out could be a bad omen.
Well we know Nahiri is going to be in Shadows or Eldritch and I'm thinking that she'll either be W/R vengeance kind of Pw or even RB to show her rage taking over her, to the point of cruelty. Although if Tibalt gets a reprint in RB like I'm hoping she will be W/R.
We get fanboy jace, who'll be mono U, who's pretty much a given.
Tamiyo I'm thinking will be UB, because of the links to forbidden knowledge and her perhaps going a little loony, from studying the moon. Linking to the semi-lovecraftian theme.
Liliana is obviously in Eldritch due to the art.
Sorin is another Pw that could be in there,as a contrast to Nahiri and him being told to find Nahiri by Ugin.
But there is a complete lack of colour balance so I'm just spitballing and could be completely wrong
We'll likely get:
Nahiri: RW or RWB
Sorin: BW
Jace: U
Liliana: B
Unknown fifth walker, likely green aligned in some way.
Remember, likely does not mean guarantee in any way.
Also remember walkers can be in the story without getting a card.
While I agree with what your thinking (though I don't think Nahiri will be WRB and mostly likely W or WR) as far as cardwise, we could get twists in this. We might get a W Nahirir card and RB Tilbalt and no Sorin card. Or BW Sorin card and no Nahiri.
We need a new G walker to help space out Nissa, since Garruk is GB now.
While I can see planesswalkers getting reprinted, Lilana has had only four planeswalkers cards, with one being her origins card and one being the off flavor Liliana of the Dark Realms, so I think she due for a new card.
Maybe use hybrid like they did in Fate Reforged, in order to fit the dragons and clans together and giving a mechanical difference. The clans cans use hybrid activation costs and/or caring about the other colors in it's wedge and the dragons can just be two colors. This way we have a difference between the two groups while giving some overlap between them as well.
Maybe have both the groups share mechanics and with the clans and dragons caring about differ themes. Maybe the dragons theme is tribal while the clans play with multicolor themes.
I'm guess the past tense is because Jace is looking through her research. I'm betting Tamiyo has already left Innistrad for somewhere else and left behind some info on the moon.
Ugh, I seriously hope not. I've been looking forward to a new Tamiyo for a long time.
Any chances of that where ruined when they showed Jace as the poster planeswalker. They won't have two mono-U walkers in the same block.

I really really want to know why in the world is Liliana going back to Innistrad.
She has the Veil that is boring through her mind, she has 2 more demons to dispatch so she can be free of her contract, she is being hunted down by Garruk...
Last time she came to Innistrad she made it plenty clear that all she wanted was to get rid of Griselbrand and get the next big demon on the list.
Out of every single priority she has, why would she waste her time back on a plane she has no business with...?
INB4 Jace seduced her into it.
The only logical reason I can think of is that she has learned of an artifact on the plane that will help her in some way... Not like that's ever backfired on her before...
Or Jace offers to help her out with her next demon/the chain veil or something like that. Honesty thats why I except her to join the gatewatch.
We jus have to wait and see how the story plays out it.
Joining the Gatewatch is counter to her personality though, sure, she'll probably work with them if their goals coincide or overlap in some way. But ultimately Lily only cares for Lily.
Thats why I said if they agree to help her out. She helps them a some matter and she then has four other walkers who own her a favor, after which she will drop them like a bag of rocks. Plus if the chain veil starts to get world destroy-ery again the gatewatch might help out willingly.
Like I said, perspective and motivations play a key role. Everyone feels emotions, but only some people wish to give themselves to them and be passionate (red), everyone is forced to obey instincts but only a select number actually accept them (green), everyone wants agency but only a few wish agency above all else (black).
This is how I like to see it as well, but when the guy who is in charge of the colour pie tells us that Sarkhan Unbroken is part blue, because he accidentally stepped into a time portal and thus unwittingly used a blue element to change the world of Tarkir, the whole thing falls apart and I realize it's just pretty headcanon.
Yeah, that guy sucks. Sarkhan was meant to be BLACK, not Blue, but durr hurr Maro's hypocrisy.
It was a mostly development and creative choice to make Sarkhan Temur instead of Jund, so I'm guess Maro is talking out his behind so that it doesn't look like he is blasting the other two parts of RnD.
Honesty it would have been better if Sarkhan had cost 2(B/G)(B/G)R, he could have fit into either Mardu or Temur dragon decks.

They have said a block set on Kaladesh, Vryn or Regatha would be considered a new plane since we have never had a full block focused on just them.
