Well good thing this is COMMANDER and not Standard, where optimization isn't what we're here for. So tired of you Spikes. Ugh.
Right. How do you suggest we evaluate cards then?
"Oh man, she seems from the Roman Empire. Cool"
"Look at the artwork. Dope."
"I always wanted to see a vampire soldier."
"4/4 is such a pretty power and toughness combination."
I don't know about you, but I evaluate cards based on their power level, regardless if I'm playing them competitively or not. For instance, Nazhan, the cat general that searches equipment, is pretty strong. However, he is not competitive. I like him a lot. This girl, on the other hand, asks you to build your deck in a certain way that is most likely inneficient, and she is not payoff enough for that.
If you have any suggestions on how to evaluate cards other than by power level, please tell me.
Any or all of those ways you mentioned would be better than just basing it on power level.
The OP has a point. If cards are made that not enticing, what point is there for me to crack packs? Not even the lotto Masterpieces are sufficient if the whole set (like this one) is underwhelming.
Wizards loses money because there is no reason for me to buy sealed product, at all, when 99.9% of it is recycle bin fodder, and I mean that, its paper I would throw away.
And you have every right to, but you are not everyone. Your opinion isn't everyones.
Got it, this card is worthless because every deck you ever play against with it will always cast fatal push on it, even the decks without black mana in them...now i understand.
It's like I've said before: "Dies to Doom Blade" is a stupid argument, because Doom Blade is a ridiculous removal spell that kills even some of the best creatures in any given format. If it didn't, it wouldn't see play in those formats.
It's not that hard to be consistent with the Hydra, barely harder than Wild Nacatl. We have plenty of Deserts to sacrifice and discard, including Desert of the Indomitable for an on-color option, and for all we know the enemy duals in this set are also Deserts (perhaps with cycling-from-play effects a la Horizon Canopy).
Most of those are more than just their power and toughness, this is just it's power and toughness and even then 5/5 for 4 isn't that remarkable.
Big creatures that don't effect the game beyond them being large are never as good as they look
*cough* Tarmogoyf *cough*
But really your mostly right, it often depends on the environment, but sometimes cards can outperform their initial appearance.
I think it really puts into perspective just how absurd creatures have become when people are poo-pooing this.
False. Primeval Titan is absurd. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is absurd. Steppe Lynx is infinitely more absurd. The only place this will ever see play is in a janky desert-themed deck at your kitchen table. They've been constantly watering down this game more and more since OG Zendikar.
Good. I prefer a lower powered, more balanced environment to what we get when Wizards puts out OP cards.
Exactly, which is what Planeswalkers SHOULD be.
So what.
Any or all of those ways you mentioned would be better than just basing it on power level.
Yes it is.
And you have every right to, but you are not everyone. Your opinion isn't everyones.
No.
It doesn't have to.
Nah, I will keep playing Magic.
No.
Weird, I didn't realize Modern didn't allow you to play cards with more than a 2 CMC.
