Time for some next level testing! Has any one play against the RG midrange version? It looks it is very well placed against the colorless and UR versions but sets of mainbaord Kozilek's Return and World Breaker seem rather tough for us. It really shuts down the whole souls plan.
I am not sure what angle of attack to use against them yet.
Strip those cards from their hand with discard, and then Extract or Memoricide the rest out of their deck. Relic makes it difficult for them to activate World Breaker's return to hand ability, since you can just sit on the relic activation and wait for them to sac a land to try and recur it.
I still think Displacer is terrible and has no place whatsoever in this deck, but I agree that Bearer of Silence may actually be worth some consideration. Evasion is huge in the colorless matchup, and its sacrifice ability happens on cast, not on ETB, which means it takes effect even in the face of Chalice on 2, or Torpor Orb. Possibly worth some consideration?
Everybody talking about offloading their Eye of Ugin... It isn't so broken that it's bannable IMO, it's just a shiny new toy that has rocked the meta and will require time to adjust. Let's not be hasty here.
I think Chalice or SSG is much more worthy of a ban.
This isn't the thread for banlist discussion. That said, if in the future Eye sticks around, then I will be the only person who will have to feel foolish for unloading my Eyes early. It's my decision and I stand by it; only time will tell if I was right or not.
I had only managed to acquire 1 Eye of Ugin prior to the PT, and I'm actually mailing it out in a trade tonight while its price is still inflated. I'm still building this deck, just a version without any Eyes. I realize that this sort of gimps my abiilty to compete for the next 2 or 3 months but if nothing else it'll allow me to playtest the deck now instead of having to wait for the other shoe to drop.
I know it hurts us too but if this colorless variant becomes a big part of your local meta, you can always run Torpor Orb to shut down most of their things.
I think shutting off our own Stranglers and Seers is too much of a liability with Torpor Orb. Better to use discard + Surgical or Memoricide to get rid of their threats.
What about Mana Tithe as a way to punish the colorless Eldrazi deck? They almost always tap out for their big spells, since they want to cast those ahead of the curve. It's a terrible top-deck late game, but Mana Tithe could be stellar against them on earlier turns.
It's probably way too cute, but it's still something.
I may switch my maindeck Banishing Light with my sideboard Warping Wail, then. I've been loving Warping Wail in OGW booster draft so I've long since been sold on its utility and power. Just wasn't sure about maindecking it before. But I think you convinced me!
If Tron is this difficult to beat even after sideboarding, would it not make more sense to simply declare the matchup a lost cause and devote its sideboard slots to other cards that help shore up less one-sided matchups that could use the help like Burn, Affinity, Zoo, and Fish?
It's come up before, but is Utter End worth considering in a sideboard slot for the Tron matchup? It can take care of Karn, Wurmcoil, O-Stone, Ugin, and/or an opposing Ulamog.
I like Ulamog as a 1 of. He is kind of an insurance policy. He can clear things from the board that you otherwise couldn't. He wins through infinite life. He wins if you can't exile. This is all at the expense of having him stuck in your hand.
He is kind of like the twin combo (RIP). The threat of him is enough to make people nervous and make misplays.
What about Infinite Obliteration?
It's probably way too cute, but it's still something.
No particular reason, I just have more Banishing Lights on hand than I do Onion Rings.
