Round 1: Mono-W Death and Taxes
Game 1: He keeps me off my lands with waste and port, serra avengers quickly seal the deal (L)
IN: 3 wear//tear, 3 pyrokinesis
OUT: 3 thalia, 2 piledriver, 1 stingscourger
Game 2: lackey -> chieftains + marshal -> chieftain kills him turn 4 (W)
Game 3: He plays a veteran armorer (unexpected), followed by stoneforge, a batterskull and a jitte. I dont draw my artifact hate and die (L)
0-1
Cards I wanted: Anarchy, tuktuk scrapper
Round 2: Fish
Game 1: he gets flooded, barely plays anything. Goblin swarm ends this pretty fast. (W)
IN: 2 wear//tear
OUt: stingscourger, goblin sharpshooter
Game 2: I get stuck on 2 colorless lands, but double vial keeps me going. he plays a ratchet bomb, but decides not to kill my vials so he can keep his cursecatchers. He gets out three lords, but war marshals followed by krenko allow me to stall until i deal 21 in one turn. (W)
1-1
Cards I wanted: -nothing-
Round 3: UWR Miracle/Top/Counterbalance
Game 1: lackey goes nuts, and double cavern lets me play through his counterspells. He dies turn four without much resistance. (W)
IN: 2 Pithing Needle, 3 wear//tear
OUT: stingscourger, goblin sharpshooter, 1 tarfire, 2 gempalm incinerator
Game 2: He counters some stuff, I play needle on top and stick a thalia. He entreats for 1, but thalia's first strike and tarfire precombat deal with that. Hes at 5 and plays humility, and i grind out the last 5 with 1/1s. (W)
2-1
Cards I wanted: -nothing-
Round 4: Mirror!
Game 1: he has the nuts and kills me before i can do much. (L)
IN:3 Pyrokinesis, 1 wear//tear
OUT: stingscourger, 3 thalia
Game 2: I have the nuts and he dies before doing much (W)
Game 3: A long, grindy game where the board stalls for a couple turns as i topdeck lands and he topdecks aether vials. I play krenko and get 1 activation before he dies, getting me 7 tokens. I swing with my new army for a while, then he plays siege-gang commander and kills my non-token creatures. After a few more turns of nothing, i get lucky and hit ringleader into chieftain and matron (tutoring another chieftain) and close it out. (W)
3-1
Cards I wanted: more pyrokinesis
At this point there is one round left to play, and im in 8th place with 9 points. Unfortunately, the person in 9th also has 9 points, so I have to play out round 5 instead of drawing into t8 (if the person in 9th wins his match and I draw mine, i have 10 points to his 12 and am out of t8)
Round 5: RUG delver
Game 1: 3 three stifles in a row keep me from playing anything useful, with a flipped delver swinging each turn. Im unable to do much and die to double bolt (L)
IN: 2 rest in peace, 2 relic of progenitus
OUT: 1 tarfire, 1 goblin sharpshooter, 2 gempalm incinerator
Game 2: I start well with thalia and marshal and get him down to 8, but double threshold-ed mongoose keep me from finishing. He plays 2 goyfs, and I fail to stick hate (relic gets stifled and rip gets spell snared), and die soon after (L)
3-2
Cards I wanted: leyline of the void/some other uncounterable hate
All in all, a good first legacy event and I was pretty pleased with the deck. Ill be taking it to a 1k in a few weeks, maybe with a few changes
also, any sideboarding advice would we welcome. thanks!
I'd try to fit Wasteland and maybe Rishadan Port in there
My personal opinion is that 4 Warchief and 4 Incinerators is correct (over the 2nd Tarfire and 2nd Chieftain respectively), but that's something that a bunch of people will need to find out for themselves.
i knew i was missing something...that would be the wastelands lol
as for ports, it sounds like theyre pretty skill-intensive. are they worth taking to a first tournament at ~60 each?
so im going to be playing goblins in my first legacy event next weekend (channelfireball $500), and potentially the cfb 1k if i enjoy it enough, with the following list:
on red elemental blast...is there any difference between it and pyroblast? i see that the oracles are slightly different, but i dont think they actually do different things. but everybody seems to prefer reb. why?
hey guys,
so ive been lurking around the thread for a few weeks because im looking to get into legacy and feel that my mountains need some love. but ive noticed several times in these 256 pages that people say its a harder deck to pick up. do you guys think that its manageable as a first legacy deck? or would something like dragon stompy be better?
thanks!
because i have no cards that cost GG (and i already have the green from the land that i used to cast pilgrim), but many that require WW. i think birds would be better if i ran equipment, however i dont
Can anyone write matchups? For example vs. U / UW / RG Tron, Soul Sisters, Melira/Kiki Pod, Tokens, UWR / UW Control, RDW, Jund / Junk / Doran, Grull aggro?
I can not decide what to build (GW hatebear or UW control) but this will rly help me.
i played against a lot of kiki pod this weekend, and the matchup felt really solid. arbiters, mindcensors and linvala did a lot of work, and i won maybe 4/6 games. we didnt board at all; otherwise the matches would have been probably been even more tilted towards this deck. In general, this deck interferes and stops tricky decks, and pod is basically shenanigans.dec
hello everyone,
i recently migrated to hatebears from junk, which i ended up not playing because of goyfs and bobs. that being said, in my personal experience and testing this deck has actually been better. a list, for reference
granted, the bulk of my testing has been against pod which was a pretty easy matchup, so i may be overestimating this deck. I was unsatisfied with hero of bladehold, which came down turn 4 usually and did nothing at all.
im considering going...
-3 hero
So I recently found a job for the summer, which means that I'm going to buy goyfs (and hopefully bob/thoughtseize get reprinted too, if not oh well) when Modern Masters comes out. Yay!
anyway, heres my working decklist. still needs tuning, testing, and then more tuning.
i need to work out the land base, which mainly consists of filling those two slots. im not sold on Liliana; if I were running souls main then I would see more in her. As it is, ive found her to be not so great against my testing friend, who plays pod. any advice/criticism is welcome
if creatures are the problem, ghostly prison is a potential solution. it also slows up pod or twin. and if you really want to be "that guy", then hissing miasma or blood reckoning could be irritating to play against. the issue with the last two is that they could decide that the life loss is worth it and just play normally
Now all we have to do is gamble that they didn't just keep a hand with mostly Blackcleave Cliffs in it...
Does Sanctimony gain as much life per spell on average as Warmth (which is Legacy-playable sideboard hate) does?
i personally think that warmth is better, but it has the small issue of not being modern legal. leyline does sound like its useful in other matchups though
heres a question for you guys that i often find myself asking....myself?
anyways, a lot of my hands are along the lines of dork, 3 drop, discard spell, and then some lands and removal
im never really sure what do to for turn 1. is it typically better to...
(A) be aggressive and curve out turn 1 dork --> t2 beater? but that leaves the discard spell (IoK in my case) looking awkward on turn 3
or
(B) be more cautious and go t1 iok, t2 dork t3 beater? i feel like im wasting mana when i do this.
for theoretical purposes, lets assume that im on the play against an unknown deck. thoughts?
Kotr could be great here, and would take Junk farther away from Jund, which is a good think IMO.
What are you guys using for removal besides PtE and decay? I've been trying other things lately since pathing a DRS or anything in Turn 3 or before seems awkward, and decay doesn't hit man lands.
the only other removal spells im considering right now are disfigure (great for DRS) and dismember (slightly less so, but good for manlands). ive also seen sunlance making appearances as 1-ofs in dailies, abeit not in junk lists.

if you fuse it with a thalia in play, does it cost 2RW? or 3RW?

basically kenny dungars list with a small change to the sideboard, based off of what ive seen on the thread.
does anybody have any card choice suggestions, or sideboarding notes/guides? I have some idea how to play the deck, but havent been able to test much.
thanks!

i think this was mentioned a long time ago, but sanctimony is legal in modern. also doesnt get countered by skullcrack as harshly
