I think Spreading Seas isn't great Valakut hate, but it remains incredibly strong Tron hate, enables islandwalk, and cantrips, so it's a great card anyway.
i agree; s seas seems like it does almost nothing because they will just sac that land when the scapeshift, and then you just die. i think that the unbanning of the molten painnicle (ik its not spelled right) makes a case for UR merfolk because of blood moon. also good against tron, as im sure someone has mentioned somewhere
I wouldn't recommend tec edge and spreading seas.
If you need it, ghost quarter is probably better.
Also, U/W at this point, seems better.( though not completely)
What cards do you think we could use from RtR?
Only that caught my eye was mizzium skin but after 2 days of limited, it's too situational.
i honestly dont thing rtr gave us anything playable. im holding out for gatecrash; i seem to remember reading that simic is now run by merfolk (!). maybe ug fish will have some potential when it somes out.
as of right now, i agree with you that uw fish is better. but what do u guys think; just splash white for path to exile off wanderwine hub/seachrome coast, or use uw shock and go with sejiri merfolk as well? he seems like a house
See the problem with blood moon and valakut the molten pinnacle is that they don't work we'll together, as valakut becomes a mountain. My list runs less nonbasics anyways.
As you see, less nonbasics, for sejiri and also because its harder to disrupt.
-sorry if anything was messed up, I'm doing this from an IPod, so something is probably broken
while i am a personal fan of sejiri merfolk (which ive been trying to fit into a list for a while), im concerned that youre running just 12 lords (and no phantasmal images)
Getting rid of Mutavault is almost certainly a mistake. It's one of the best tempo cards we have.
It looks like you've really hurt your manabase just to suport Ancient Grudge in the side. Ancient Grudge is great, but not worth losing the Mutavaults for. Why not Smelt in the side instead?
sorry, forgot to mention this. im not running mutavaults because dropping 120 bucks for a playset of lands is a bit out of my reach atm. but ideally yes i would run them. and smelt is a good idea (or smash to smithereens)
trying out some leaks and kira, since shes gotten such rave reviews. also, my only testing so far has been against death and taxes, and this might help my declining win rate. thoughts much appreciated
so ive been considering getting back into modern, and currently looking at ur fish mostly because i love bolt, and blood moon is an excellent sideboard card.
a few things:
1. as u can hopefuly tell, this deck tries to play pretty aggressively. if i can drop a seas and a lord or two, i just ignore the other player and race them (with pretty decent results)
2. coralhelm commander has been, in my experience, a boss. flying is amazing, and i can usually win off one of him, if i have a few blockers to buy time while he swings.
3. not sure about my red mana. i hate having to play down a vents for the 2 lives, and am considering using filter lands instead just to avoid that.
I think it's very viable. I think it might've been mentioned in the primer or in one of my other posts. I consider the following very good alternatives out of the sideboard (assuming your manabase can support it):
In addition, Gideon Jura, Karn Liberated and maybe even White Sun's Zenith could all work, assuming you can cast them.
The reason they work is because not only has your opponent sided out most of their removal, but each represents a game-breaking spell that gives you an overwhelming advantage if not immediately dealt with. Even Delver of Secrets represents often nearly half the opponent's life total within the first few turns.
The best way to format your decklists for readability is to separate them into groups based on card function. See my decklist in the post two above yours. Also, add "Sideboard:" and a blank line to have it display the SB separately.
Also, putting a space or another symbol before the line makes that line appear in bold and unlinked.
If you want to check the exact BBcode, just click quote and it will show you everything that went into formatting the post.
Curse of Death's Hold could work in some metagames, but keep in mind that it is 5-mana at sorcery-speed, which will require you to almost always tap out to cast it. Also consider that, for the token decks playing Lingering Souls and Sorin, it is rendered useless with either an Honour of the Pure or an Intangible Virtue.
I feel the best way to combat token-based strategies is an overwhelming number of sweepers. However targeting their Sorins and their Anthems could work as well (via Oblivion Ring and/or Ray of Revelation), as advocated by others in this thread. Between BSZ, Ratchet Bomb, Whipflare, Slagstorm, or even Day of Judgment and Feeling of Dread, we have a huge number of sweepers at our disposal to make life hell for the aggro matchup.
Also I think you have a few too many counterspells. You, counting Snapcaster Mage, have 11, while many lists run 9-10. I personally have 4 Mana Leak, 2 Dissipate and 3 Snapcaster Mage.
thanks for the input
for the only matchup that ive tested with (uw tempo), i feel that this is an appropriate number of counters. our games are usually pretty controlling, with no creature (even hexproofers) landing or connecting more than once. counters are essential to this style of play, and i would add more had i started with fewer. and on the white removal, i don't run any good white sources, so im just gonna try Beast Within as a catch-all removal
Hey guys, im new here so please correct me if i make any formatting errors
ive been playing BV for a few weeks (mostly against a friend running UW tempo blade, which is a crucial matchup), and ive almost always taken the counter-burn strategy. and i have to say, it works exceedingly well. heres my decklist, for reference

what do you guys think of boarding 1-2 curse of death's hold? it looks like theres gonna be a hunge influx of X/1's that dont really merit individual removal spells/ BV triggers or even sweepers... (gravecrawler, lingering souls, sorin, lord of innistrad)
Thanks
