I have a lot of EDH and Tiny Leaders decks this land can go into, but without the low powered land pack idea, this just doesnt seem worth a card slot in any rare cube.
I have an all multi colored cube this will slot nicely into as cheap creatures with relevant early and late powers are at a premium, but my main 540 will pass.
Maybe instead of a big cube, a young cube might be a better descriptor. Most of us on here are culling our cubes out of huge collections of cards, or we have the money to spend to acquire the cards we are after. Some people though are interested in the best of formats, but don't have my 20 years of cards, or thousands of dollars to spend. I don't expect us to start saying every card is cube worthy, but we could try and consider circumstances besides our own. "I'm not going to run this card, but if players trying ramp in your cube are always dying to the aggro decks then maybe this helps."
Not sure what I'll cut to test this, but I expect a two drop that is relevant later in the game to find a home in my cube. I like the tension the card brings as a skill tester.
Maybe a large or young cube could make use of this guy, but a blue creature that isn't extremely good is not going to crack tight lists. For weirder lists, like combo or EDH, I could see the appeal. Definite pass for me.
A few years ago I would've (and did) argue against its inclusion. But it's a better card now than it was before (for the cube) and I'd recommend giving it a shot.
I always appreciate when any of us talks about how they have rethought a card, or changed their mind in some other fashion. Too often it seems we talk past one another or echo chamber awesomeness. Bravo to you and all others who keep an open mind!
