So are they going to sell the 4 duel decks individually? I don't see this being sold in big box stores being viable otherwise. There's just not a lot of shelf space dedicated to tcgs in those places, and they have never put 80 dollar product in those sections before (correct me if I'm wrong)
I'm getting the vibe that these are going to be like From the Vault print runs.
You could very easily fit 8 decks into the deckbuilder toolkit box, and almost every walmart has a half dozen of those on the shelf, not to mention they stocked the hell out of the holiday gift boxes which are a lot of wasted space for just 4 boosters.
as we use them for a draft later on for the same day
Thats against wizards rules.
You cant buy boosters and play with them.
But you can do whatever you want with your prices, open them or draft with them.
If you start a draft, everyone has to have the same product, thats all about it.
For an FNM you can also use other boosters, as long as everyone has the same product.
As long as you arent holding prize packs back and selling them to start a draft then it should be ok, but if you arent giving out prize packs and using them for draft thats against rules.
I trade for a bunch of "junk" that turns into gold a couple years after rotation. So many of my cards from Scars block are double-triple what I traded for them at that.
I hope when everyone's making their pro/con list, they're remembering that A) Hannes was hardly around to fix tech issues (Any virus laden ads couldn't be yanked) and B) That the vB MTGS was a complete jumble of messes. It basically couldn't be upgraded and had so many holes that user data was at risk.
Also, Curse has owned MTGS for a year, so complaining about them now seems silly. If someone's leaving now, it's because of the software change, not any change in ownership.
I will say that I am leaving because of how intrusive curse is now. If you didnt know before, there was no real way to tell curse even had a hand in MTGS. Now its full on curse with an afterthought of an MTG forum. Sure Vbulliten isnt the greatest, but you could have at least brought all the features from there here. This place feels like a half done forum, with many features missing/not important enough to make it through the transition.
Not to mention that the color scheme here sucks, and there are no other options, unlike the old forum with something like 6 different color schemes.
Well I guess this is the last post im making here. The new curse site is just terrible. From the piles of ads for other games curse forced onto these forums, to there only being the single color scheme, it just feels intrusive. Top it off with teemo at the bottom of every page and it just makes this place not feel right anymore.
Im off to find a pure magic forum, curse can shove it.
We are talking about a card that is arguably at a higher power level than the Moxen, has never been off the Restricted List, and allows an incredible number of degenerate plays.
Even non-degenerate uses (like turn 2 Koth of the Hammer) reduce the interactivity of a game.
Just cause your casual play isnt as cut throat as some, doesnt make it less casual. Our casual 60 card Free for all 4-8 player games see everything just short of power 9 usually.
I pulled a foil Mox Opal from a booster back in scars time, I wouldnt get rid of it for anything. Its suck a beautiful card, and I usually hate foils. But I guess you cant forget pulling your first Mox, even if its not a power 9 Mox.
Someone who uses a Lotus to play Vintage will be happy to sell the more valuable old Lotus to a collector and buy a cheaper new Lotus. In other words, reprinting can decrease the demand for the old version because non-collectors will prefer the cheaper one.
Many of the people that play vintage these days using real cards are into the "pimp" factor. New printings would bring new blood sure, but no one that has spent the time now to build a super pimped out vintage deck is just going to up and sell it.
Not doing anything hurts collectors AND speculators, more so than reprinting cards does. Because counterfeiters are going to do it anyway. If I have an underground sea, it's going to lose all its value and be $10 in 5 years no matter what WOTC does. So I might as well have it be $5 and have WOTC still in business. That's better than $5 and WOTC not in business.
That's just it. It doesn't even matter where their loyalties lie. It still doesn't make sense to do anything but reprint (or otherwise provide availability).
Rather than seeming "unstoppable," the status quo from where I'm standing in fact looks the exact opposite: untenable no matter what your goals are as WOTC.
Just saying, legit reprints would not hurt collector values. Fakes do, but legit reprints wont be the same set symbol and usually get new art. A fresh off the printer lotus wouldnt complete a beta set (again fakes would), but legit reprints would be good for the value of old copies.
Theres no reason a gold border cube would have to be that expensive. If the cards are not tournament viable theres no reason to pay so much for them. Wizards would make truckloads of money by printing an affordable cube. Something like 100$ would be a great entry point, competitive with premium board games which is what the set would be marketed as. Normal nonfoil cards, special border and back. I could see a little more if they put good sleeves in with it, though I stress good sleeves. No crappy art sleeves.
At that ridiculous price point people would rather get exactly the cards they want from the Chinese. After all, they're equally unplayable.
$50 is a sensible price point for a 600 piece card game with no secondary market value. But the commander rules comitee would have to accept them as legal for non-sanctioned play or they wouldn't move even half as many units as they would if these ten new art, modern framed dual lands were actually playable in commander.
You do know that commander is a casual format right? You can use whatever cards you want. They wont come to your house and take away your commander decks.

Well they dont seem to be silver bordered so I would assume so.
