  • posted a message on Revisiting Ravinca and Mirrodin were a Huge Mistake
Uh yeah thats a lot of talking for everyone when you clearly only have your own opinion.

Mirrodin block and Scars block are my favorite magic environments, and I bought more cards from both of these sets than any other.

Ravnica was always a close second, being my favorite use of multicolor in the first set. I would have not bought a single pack of a return to alara multicolor set.

Zen is way too new to be going back to, if they returned to Zendikar when they did the first return set it would have been 2 years back to back Zendikar, and that sounds more boring than drafting coldsnap. You stick to one thing too often you piss off the people that didnt enjoy that set. Magic probably would have died if wizards decided 2 years worth of Kamigawa sets at once would be a good idea.

Guess I should just point out, I am glad you are not in charge of picking the sets we get.

  • posted a message on Affininty, Modern or Legacy - which is more fun?
In an ideal Legacy setting, where everyone and their brother has all the cards they could ever need, sure Affinity doesnt look too good. However with Wizards firm stance of hating players that like real Magic, this isnt even close to what most legacy metagames looks like. Ive been to Legacy tourneys where no one happened to be rocking the right hate, then the next week everyone was packing for artifacts and not for grave hate, where my reanimator wrecked house.

If I found modern to be more fun of a format I would easily be able to mod to make it work there, but I have to take a lot of power out to even make it past the ban list and well if the deck ever gets back to a point of being powerful its just going to get hit with the banhammer again.

  • posted a message on What silly superstition or attention to detail do you have?
All my decks moved to black sleeves to keep my playgroup from doing just that. I was tired of them always knowing what was coming next just by the color of sleeves, allowing them to pick a deck jammed full of hate for whatever deck I sat on the table. Now it throws them, the amounts of hate they can run are diminished, and I dont always end up against Shatterstorms with my artifact deck.

  • posted a message on What should I do - abusive store owner
Store would never get another cent from me. Store owner would get badmouthed at every opportunity. I would tell him straight up, you don't work for him and he isnt paying you to move his shop from one place to another. That's above and beyond anything an owner should expect out of paying customers.

I know I might get infracted for this (don't care either) I would have probably antagonized him until he hit me while he was yelling, opening up a response from me.

Advocating physical violence. Infraction issued. -Xen

Yikes, dragon shield are only 10$ a box here. You should try to find a better deal than that and pick up a pack to try out.

Could be cool for a shop to use for decoration if they have a separate room for the gaming tables, a bit pricey though.

Lots of shops in my area have Lily of the veil fatheads in their front window. Its nice when searching for card shops in other cities.

Yeah, but are you really going to call someone on that at a Friday Night Magic or a friendly Saturday afternoon tournament when they are only 7 minutes late? You just have to roll your eyes and play the game.

7-9-10-20, its just FNM right? The time limit is put there to keep things running smoothly. Plus if you left the building to smoke and couldnt make it back in time its your own damn fault. You know that you entered a magic tourney, pay more attention. Should we all have to spend those 7 minutes outside hunting for opponents that wont get a game loss from deciding the tourney goes at their pace now? Should we wait on the guy that ran to taco bell too? Should he be able to play with his burrito on the table, or do we wait for him to finish eating before the next round?

There are prizes on the line, I paid to enter. You did too, you knew the rules when you paid the entry fee.

But I dont care what you do between rounds, just make sure you watch your time because no one else will do it for you, and dont complain when I got bored waiting to see if my opponent is ever going to show up and called the judge.

Coming from an ex-smoker of 10+ years, this is one of the lamest excuses I've ever heard..and it's not just you I'm speaking of. If you want to quit it's extremely easy. Just don't put a cigarette in your mouth and light it. It really is that simple. Doing anything else, while saying you're "trying" or "want" to quit, just shows that you're extremely feeble minded, and probably just want attention.

On point - there should be no restrictions on people smoking as long as they're outside. It's their choice. Kids won't be subjected to it as long as they are inside where they belong.

You either have never truly been addicted to something or are stronger willed than most. If it was that easy, there wouldnt be a massive industry to help people quit smoking .

How do you guys do this...I guess I need to play with older cards more. Thanks a lot. The guy was asking 50 for these plus 900 common/uncommons

Yeah I wouldnt even think of buying that.

I hate it when my opponent is late from his 'smoke break' to start the next round. It's infuriating losing valuable time.

I hate it even more when I'm sitting opposite my opponent and all I can concentrate on is their stinky smoke breath.

I voted yes. It might be someones choice to smoke but I have no choice about putting up with it.

Being late to the round has its own penalties. if they are late enough its either a game loss or a match loss.

You cant smoke inside a business here in Ohio anymore, so the smokers go outside, and are very quick to smoke their puff or two and make it back in for their match on time, or deal with game losses from taking too long.

Hell I know players that run to the bar across the street from the LGS i play at most often between rounds. I know players that cant play magic without a little bit of green influence if you catch my drift. As long as they arent making problems inside, who cares?

As for people who play Magic stoned...they're usually easy to beat because, well, they're stoned out of their minds. Also, PRO TIP for stoners: Everyone knows you are stoned. it is obvious. You are fooling no one. And most folks are laughing at you. Wink

Not everyone thats stoned cant handle their smoke. Sure the newbies are easy to point out because they are too stoned to function, but you cant label everyone with the same label. Its like saying everyone that takes 2 shots is plastered, not true.

oh man, i wish this was true...

on topic, i still think that EDH is the best format for casual play, if you have the right playgroup. if you want to try something different, you can also use plane or scheme cards. sometimes i play planechase EDH and it's very fun

Except you still have to have a special deck built for the format. FFA Multiplayer is still the most common, doesnt require tracking extra life totals, and doesnt take 4 hours to play a single game. Thought some people like to play with their pet creature so much they make up stupid things like even if you kill my pet creature, i can still use it again no matter what, oh and if it touches you too much you lose because its special.

Personally I say pick a better format. Commander isnt fun, at least in my opinion.

  • posted a message on New Magic-based MOBA game?
Even outsourced from some developer, Wizards will never put the big money into making a video game like this. These kind of games require lots of developers, constant bug fixes, balancing. Wizards wont even shell out enough money for a working MTGO, something that basically prints them money for nothing.

Wizards cannot even get their own card game to work online. I personally dont see this breaking into the crowded MOBA genre.
