Hey guys, I'm going to SCG Open Atlanta tomorrow, but I'm playing in the Legacy event Sunday.
I wanted to get some opinions, because I'm having trouble developing a sideboard. I've decided to take Esper Stoneblade, because I'm tired of playing Deathblade and losing to combo. My list is pretty basic, vanilla Stoneblade:
Here's where it gets tricky. My sideboard is all over the place, but I'm looking mainly to try and play around creature decks (goblins, merfolk, jund) and combo decks (show and tell, storm, and dredge), which are Atlanta's favourite decks.
The graveyard hate slots can be any of these combinations. I would like to play Rest in Peace in those slots and just take Snaps out, but then it makes Academy Ruins a plain colourless land. I'm also considering:
-3 Geist of St Traft
+2 Leyline of Sanctity
+1 Spell Pierce
I haven't seen many Dismembers, and not a single Wrack with Madness. I think MBC might actually just be destroying at my local meta. Either way, that's all I'll ever do so it suffices.
People who 'know their stuff' keep telling me to run Gravecrawler, Highborn Ghoul, and Geralf's Messenger low end and use less killspells, but it didn't do as well on Cockatrice.
Might I ask why the Skirges are out of place? A Lashwrithe on them can put the game out of reach for an opponent in a way that Obliterator can't. Plus, (at least at my local meta) when they know Big O is coming, they skip the killspells for Skirge.
Also, I passed on Inkmoths since it weakened my Lashwrithes. Pretty much my win condition is slapping a Lashwrithe on.. anything. I've won with a 10/10 Solemn Simulacrum before.
Few months back I decided to build a deck around Phyrexian Obliterator. Back then, the card was $15 on average. Now it's jumped up to $25, so I guess I got started on it at a good time.
This deck has won me 3 of the last 4 FNM's, with the fourth being a top 4 place. For those interested, my meta mainly consists of WU control, a little WRR and RDW, couple of Tempered Steel and a few UB control builds. Anyway, here's the deck:
Any opinions would be nice. Right now I'm thinking of taking out 2 Painful Quandary for 2 more Distress mainboard. Painful is doing great at my local meta, but sometimes it's just in hand for several turns because I have other things I need to be laying down. I put this deck together myself and am quite pleased with how it came out.
I've been itching to put together a deck that makes Phyrexian Obliterator competitive, so I put together something over the past few days and have been testing it. So far I go approximately 70/30 with Tempered Steel (W/R variant), 60/40 with Werewolves, and 80/20 with Haunted Humans. Those three are the most popular meta decks in my locale, so I tested against those primarily. Here's the deck. I'd appreciate constructive criticism.
I'm actually not fond of Geralf's Messenger anymore. Coming in tapped makes for irritating turns where I have no blockers. I'm thinking of replacing the Messengers and Sangromancer for the playset of Ragers in the sideboard.
