A card that actually DOES things?

    Blasphemy.

it could be worse, it could be a card that does things AND is standard-legal.

overall, a decent promo that should have been released sooner

you could Radiate it. resetting the board with a consistent and free boomerang could be powerful

Hey, look at the bright side. At least we won't have to shell out $$$ for the non-existent chase rares in the set.

    but people still will, lol.

overall, the set seems fairly well constructed.

between general damage, sorin/magister effects, and combos, the lifegain component of brightflame is usually neglible.

the fact that you can wipe out opposing creatures while leaving your own in tact is noteworthy. Mark of Asylum could be useful with it

In any case, I pick Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds over these in nearly every deck.

this was my first impression when i first saw the panorama cycle. i doubt additional budget fetches are needed beyond expanse/wilds in most decks.

you could always Sculpting Steel your quicksilver amulet.

Æther Vial can work if you can protect it.

Belbe's Portal if you name dragon.

Cryptic Gateway if you are running heavy tribal and horde/tokens.

Dragon Arch is fun with multicolor creatures (and it fits a dragon-themed deck.

Zirilan of the Claw both tutors and cheats dragons into play. Combine with a sac effect to keep it available (i.e. not exiled).

  • posted a message on How have the Commander decks changed your game?
after this period of time, the only major change on my playgroup is the new generals. some tech like Homeward Path is sporadically seen, but more or less the release had little effect.

The textbooks should be developed in an open format such that Apple does not have any propriety control over them.

this is the greatest limiting factor i see with this idea. with the passing of jobs, i hope apple's proprietary nature will subside and eventually cease to exist.

these will never go away, they are designed well and are necessary.

while i agree, i thought the core sets existed to provide these generic staples. block is obviously a different story, but the blocks become formulaic with so many "necessary reprints".

He isn't that great a general and I often would prefer him to be Maga or geth or Drana.

the new Mikaeus also seems like an interesting general.

as far as poison counters in EDH, there are very times i have seen infect cause more grief than any combo deck.

  • posted a message on Why does it always have to be a cycle?
while i agree with you from a creativity and flavor standpoint, wizards makes cycles for a variety of reasons.
    1. using design templates gets increased use out of ideas (i.e. titans, etc)
    2. while not every cycle can be perfectly balanced, giving every color (or color combination) a version of the card in question at least gives everyone something
    3. they do not want to give a single color/color combination something the rest don't have and see imbalance caused at the lack of options
essentially, they trade uniqueness for fairness and innovation for ease-of-design.

We know all the Mythics so we are also almost certain that Tarmogoyf is not reprinted in this set.

to be fair, wizards could surprise everyone and not make goyf a mythic (i.e. a box seller)

as far as the "whole set spoiled" issue, i think its fine. it just allows the people who would study them the day before more time to do so.

Me: Activate Jace's Archivist, everyone ditch and draw 7.
Friend: Aww man, you made me ditch my Jace, the Mind Sculptor.
Other Friend: *reads Jace's Archivist and starts laughing*
    Me: What is so amusing?
Other Friend: *pointing to flavor text* "Master Beleren's trust has bought an eternity of my loyalty."
    Table: *laughing*

    fairly amusing to us

i love cards like this, off the wall with unique abilities. whether or not its effective depends on the creativity of players to find strong-enough interactions.
