My wife and I are building a Grimgrin deck together and using your list as the basis, RivenVII. Thanks for sharing your work and testing results. Add me to the list of people wanting to see that Grimgrin alter, too.
So why have so many of you guys cut the Stax element out of your Chainer decks? I've been reading the last few pages and it seems like everyone has cut Smokestack, Bitterblossom, etc. Were these cards just not performing for you guys? It seems like they're quite useful for hitting things Black can't normally deal with, plus the effect is very asymmetrical when you're able to recur creatures as easily as Chainer (and lands with Crucible).
Quick question. I have the red precon and was working on tooling it up to a more competitive level, but kind of stopped halfway through because I felt like Daretti is just fragile and doesn't offer much early game defense. I feel like there's not much in the way in stopping people from running over you (not many blockers or ways to stop attackers) and it's not very disruptive for combo or control. How do you guys live long enough to get into the value stage of the game for red artifacts?
I know this is rather basic, but I've been out of the game since Invasion and I know some of the rules have changed since then. I'm wondering how activated abilities from permanents work on the stack if that permanent is removed before its ability resolves.
Example: I have Prodigal Pyromancer in play. My opponent is at one life and has a Royal Assassin. If I activate my Pyromancer first, targetting my opponent, and my opponent responds with the Assassin's ability targetting the Pyromancer, does the Pyromancer's ability resolve? Or since it's no longer in play when the ability comes up on the stack, does it not resolve?
At first I didn't know what you were talking about, since my java bookmarked Gatherer link still works fine, but when I went to the WotC webpage and clicked on some of their linked cards, I was getting directed to the "card not found" screen.
My guess is WotC is upgrading Gatherer and it happens to be FUBAR'ed right now.
Good sleeves and gentle shuffling is all I do. I tend to always get the flat black Ultra Pro sleeves, so I don't have to swap certain cards from one color sleeve to another if I need it in another deck.
Ever hear the saying "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."?
It's the same thing for multiplayer. If people are running mad reanimation, start using some of the common hosers for reanimation. Withered Wretch, Tormod's Crypt, etc. And, hey, those two were even reprinted in TS.
Also, T2 (competitive decks) shouldn't be banned because they're only powerful enough to kill one player, and then they run out of steam.
Yeah, everyone I play with realized that very quickly. In fact, most of the Legacy decks I put together aren't that hot in multiplayer at all. The aggro decks run out of steam and about half of the control decks just can't keep up with everything. I've had problems with most of my combo decks lately, since they pull some serious hate. It's possible to outrace aggro with combo, but your chances rapidly dwindle when three players focus disruption and fast damage at your dome.
My group does hate it when I bring Wildfire Stax to the table, though. I wonder why
My group has never, nor would they ever, ban any cards for multiplayer games. Syphon Soul is supposed to be better in multiplayer games than normal ones. Lock decks are so much harder to use because they can be disrupted by any of the players instead of just having to worry about one. If nobody in your group plays naturalize/disenchants, perhaps they should start.
I don't buy repacks for the same reason I don't (usually) buy boosters--randomness. Singles end up being cheaper. The only time I do buy boosters o rtournament packs is when I'm in a limited mood.
Reminds me of my girlfriend's first packs for sealed. It was one tournament pack + 2 boosters of Ravnica. She pulled two Dark Confidants and a foil Birds of Paradise. I also got a Dark Confidant in one of my boosters that day... Bob must have been smiling upon us or something like that

If I activate my Pyromancer first, targetting my opponent, and my opponent responds with the Assassin's ability targetting the Pyromancer, does the Pyromancer's ability resolve? Instant
If a player takes another turn after this one, you control that player's turn.
Today it's replacing my search field with "Peace". I almost wonder if it's some sort of scret message, possibly about PC

Then again, I don't have any power. *shrug*
