Went to prerelease, got to trade for some goodies.
Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger I replaced Ula with Ula from RoE. Fantastic in my humble opinion, the lack of annihilator and equally awesome attack trigger made me less of an Archenemy and allowed me some politicking on the EDH tables.
Oblivion Sower is awesome. With a poor hand, we can expect about 7+ mana but unable to ramp hard to 10 for Kozilek without great top decks. Sower IS the bridge to the magical ten!
Conduit of Ruin I added this derp just because my buddy opened a foil and I could not resist not trying out shiny new Eldrazi. Conduit is extremely awesome, functions as a bridge like Oblivion Sower (although a far weaker version as he is a Swords to Plowshares rod!) and a narrow Worldly Tutor on stick who almost always gets Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger for removal of annoying crap. Conduit felt poor early on as he always gets removed, seems like my EDH group acknowledged the threat of Conduit wayy before me.
The Lands
Sanctum of Ugin I thought this was great, but we are so mana hungry that losing a land to tutor when we are in the late game where comboing out with our various artifacts is the actual plan is in my opinion, a poor choice. Conduit of Ruin functions as a much better tutor and much earlier in the game when we are more vulnerable.
Shrine of the Forsaken Gods is quite meh, but it has its uses. Just replaced this with one of the weaker lands in the deck.
The other key players
Hedron Archive This card is the boss! Note that I did not remove Sisay's Ring or Ur-Golem's Eye for this card. I feel the 4 mana tap for 2 rocks are the best mid sized rocks. I have also added Mind Stone.
Overall
I feel that BFZ has given us some good stuff. Though I really wish Sire of Stagnation was playable! With the addition on Eldrazis I have lowered the curve by removing stuff like Memory Jar and other high end stuff while adding some low cost ramp like Mind Stone
Since when is redundancy bad, especially in a singleton format?
It's not going to replace Karn. I'd use it to replace something else that's barely hanging in there (Myr Battlesphere for me... I really need to go through and re-evaluate all my cards after BFZ)
Really? Myr Battlesphere is one of the best cards in the deck tbh. Combo and synergy machine.
Odd to see that people aren't liking it as much as me.
Normally by the time I see it (because I don't want it in my opener) other people's boards are developed to the point that he's more a nuisance than anything else.
But I also don't have many/any other Myr producers.
Like I said though, I need to go through and essentially rebuild the deck post BFZ to see what stays. He might make the cut and something else gets punted.
Myr Battlesphere and friends always outperformed for me, little buggers tapping around for mana + chump blocking. Not to mention killing opponents with a ball of myrs is hilarious.
mmmm annihilator is an appetizer while this is the main course.
and this... THING.... can be reanimated. Any colorless tool cards that can reanimate this... THING?
Nim Deathmantle and Mimic Vat come to mind, but both require ulamog to enter the graveyard from the battlefield and lets face it, barring edict effects, Ulamog is most likely going to be exiled since he's indestructible.
Nope the City will not betray you when you put the land directly into play from the Atlas. Playing a land is a special action that does not use the stack and is different from putting a land into play via spells and abilities.
Dreadnaught with Orb is a secret tech that was created by the Phyrexians! Spanning over so many blocks!
Neat, have the judge crucible as well, really looks nice in old frame :3
What's your experience with the Ward of Bones? I had it in a very, very old build but cut it because it wasn't working back then.
I do play City of Traitors and generally do not play lands as I will either Scroll Rack them away (not hitting land drops to Brainstorm sorta mentality). Which eventually makes opponents cannot play lands especially in the U and W commanders without G. Since I also barely have any creatures, the ward really stops people down a lot as I am usually the archenemy. All in all, the ward is just there to do 1. Removal rod 2. Irritate the heck outta people 3. Buys us time to set up for the combo kill. Besides my playgroup is INFESTED with U decks and counterspells are so prevalent that combo (Sharum and gang) is dead.
Infested meaning, FoW and Mana Drains are normal fare with the usual suite of 13-18 counters per U EDH deck. Which of course makes our favourite juicer extra JUICY. But let's face it, one reason why the ward is there is just cause I have the foil one
and here are the rest, most of the judge foils are well my compensation cause well I am a judge so it takes off the pinch. Besides fellow judges are very eager to assist in getting fellow judges pimp out a deck
Damn a crazy veteran
Foiling out Kozilek would eat my wallet, foil Rishadan Port is like 300 ~~ here.
You have to take pictures when it's done though, I'm really curious how PIMP that must be.
I like the It that Betrays pun
I'm going to be really sad seeing it go, but it's been ages since it actually did something.
Hi Juwdah, a LONG time Kozilek pilot since mid-2012 and I must say this is THE thread where I come for fantastic insights of Kozilek.
Yes removing It that Betrays was sad but seeing the faces of opponents drop when they cast Bribery on me and find only random artifact dudes or Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre is priceless. Ulamog is no issue as my playgroup quickly dispatch the player and players in my group have learnt not to steal Eldrazi Titans.
Anyways I am in the slow and painful process of foiling out Kozilek, got like 64 cards foiled! I approve of the change to LED as we need plenty of speed to rush out our Opportunity commander and divert attention to him asap while we amass the critical grip of mana and artifact combo pieces to combo the table out. It has been a blast to play Kozilek and my playgroup has affectionately called Kozilek as K.O.-ji-liap which means KO in one punch LOL
Ana Sanctuary only requires you have blue and black, but it's arguably the best of the cycle, in a Voltron deck.
The other good one is Ceta Sanctuary. Note that with Thought Reflection, any looting spell becomes instantly broken, and green and black can abuse the graveyard.
Necra and Raka are hurt severely in a 40-life format, and Dega?
I tried the Sanctuaries but removed them all simply because I hate breaking the cycle. To me my EDH decks must strictly adhere to the theme and every cycle of the card must be included unless it is an instant/sorcery
Thanks and really appreciate your input but I really wanted to find hidden domain gems without keyword domain [the invasion cycle of cards are re-oracled with domain] such as Spirit of Resistance
(I did a bunch of looking into this a while back.)
Hi Sigismond0! You really nailed it hard with this card! Exactly the type of card I am looking for! Besides should we make a thread to list all the current domain cards that do not explicitly have the keyword domain in their text such as Spirit of Resistance and friends?
BTW I am quite confused why do nearly everyone recommends Last Stand? I have a foil Apocalypse version of it and it is extremely lackluster even with Prismatic Omen in play before resolving it
Hi there! I have been trying to build a commander deck where I want to have a 5 colours matter theme
I am able to search Domain cards off gatherer but they are usually quite lack luster. Cards I am looking for are those along the lines of Global Ruin; Etched Monstrosity; the 5 Bringers from 5th Dawn; Maelstrom Archangel; Legacy Weapon, you know cards that are good only if you are able to pay the WUBRG costs!
I agree with you. The RL isn't doing what it's supposed to do. IMO, it's a worthless promise.
But here is the bigger reality.
Without the RL, these cards still wouldn't be reprinted.
How do I know this?
I look at one of the biggest Legacy staples in the format, a card that isn't on the RL, is ridiculously costed for an uncommon and 16 years after it's initial printing, it STILL hasn't been reprinted.
As much as I would like to point out that Jace, the Mind Sculptor is being reprinted. Besides this card is only legal in legacy and vintage.
I love legacy, I want FoW and friends to be reprinted, but we have to come into terms legacy will move in the direction of vintage
I do not believe removal of Blinding Angel is the way to go, she has controlled that fatty dropping player very well and as said the opponent has to answer her before he can win via the combat step.
Scourge of Valkas I am not so sure about him. Do we play enough dragons to make him effective?
Honestly I played a ton of games on cockatrice last night and I played a couple aristocrat decks and as long as I got KoI out, I was fine and could just outpace them.
KoI is usually left on defense against Champion of the Parish and a singleton KoI is only 3 damage pressure while he has lingering souls tokens and what not chipping my life total

Hedron Archive will be fantastic but I doubt I would want to remove the ring
Sac outlets to recast Kozilek again and again, and also theft prevention

Maybe the real reason why I do not like it is cause my Prismatic Omen always gets nuked on sight ):

This bad boy entered my deck as the first card before everything else since I have a foil version of it. Great political card!
I got them all also!
Fist of Suns will be in my deck once I find it. Quite hard to trade for it atm tbh ):
