Was just wondering, from a strategic standpoint, what situations each of these cards shine in? In another words, just because I play blue and wanna play a counterspell I don't just close my eyes and randomly pick one to play! What types of decks like one better than the other? Which ones are played main and which ones go to the board?
Sorry if this question is ridiculous, but I would like to understand how each popular counterspell in Modern is played.
I dunno....something about a more tribal version of Zombies is what I'm gearing towards...but I certainly am not qualified to judge which version is more effective. At the very least, I think you gotta play with Death Baron
Yeah I think RockZombie is the way to go...but I really like Mortarpod. Do you think it can fit in the deck?
Also, what does everyone think of Stillmoon Cavalier? I was just thinking because the deck doesn't have any way to deal with fliers, other than to use removal.
A huge advantage of Mill over Kill Mill is that it doesn't rely on creatures nearly as much. It's just Hedron Crab plus a lot of mill spells, effectively making it a burn deck that attacks on an axis that is not life-based. When possible, I would always want a Modern deck to use as few creatures as possible, just to avoid playing a fair game with decks packing maindeck Pyroclasm and 10+ removal spells. Kill Mill plays too fairly in that regard. Mill, however, does not. That is not to suggest that Kill Mill is bad (I have seen its MTGO performances). But I still think that Traditional Mill would be better over the course of more games or larger events.
Couldn't agree more....
As far as the turn 2 kill, rage quits are the nuts!!!
So the list I posted earlier just Top 4'd this weekend's Modern Premiere. He also 3-1'd a Daily that day.
I'm pretty convinced this deck is for real. I just wish I could find a way for a little more discard either in the board or main. As I stated earlier, counters can be annoying. I guess I just need to practice more/be a better player to play around them. I'm very excited for the future of this archetype. No disrespect to the more aggro builds, as they work quite well too...but I just love winning by straight Milling! Lets keep the discussion going and hopefully the 2 guys who had this MTGO success lately read this and have some more insight.
As a huge mill fan since the original Millstone, I've been looking at this deck list. I like the interactions going on in here. My one problem with it is that I still don't see how you hang on with a bad hand (or a mediocre mull, say). No white splash for PtE? No Dismember? No BSZ? The sideboard has a single Engineered Explosives, Slaughter Pact, and Illness in the Ranks? Seems *very* meta dependant. The Leyline is good, b/c without it we just feed GY based decks.
I had the same concerns at first, but this deck Mills so fast that all the removal is really not necessary. The Crypt Incursions really help out alot. I'm not really sure what the strategy is behind Slaughter Pact. Would like to learn more about that.
Shelldock Isle is amazing. Especially when it hides an Archive Trap. Can't tell you how many games I've finished off that way.
I wanna add more discard to the board as counters can get annoying. They are by no means gg, but just annoying. Defense Grid also came to mind but doesn't play well with all my instants. I've also considered Dispel.
All in all, really loving the deck and think it's for real. Hope the discussion continues
Been through a few variations of UB Mill now and this one is by far the most powerful. Lots of fun to play. Anyone have any input as to what direction he's heading in with this SB?

Now, I didn't pose this question to disagree with this person's choice of using Remand, I posed it to understand why he chose Remand.
So, to add another element to this already great discussion (and to specifically solve my dilemma!):
Those of you who think Remand is the correct choice for this particular deck, why?
Those who think Remand is not the best choice for this deck, why?
Talk amongst yourselves!!
Sorry if this question is ridiculous, but I would like to understand how each popular counterspell in Modern is played.

Another money finish in a Daily......
Just out of curiosity, what criteria needs to be met to move up to "Established"?
