Me and a friend where talking about this, this might be bad, but how about mirror universe Voltron? Where you give an opponent Xantcha buff it with enchantments, and pillowfort up as the other opponents fight it out? Using Homeward path to close out the game once it gets to 1v1 territory.

  • posted a message on For fun, matching month/holiday themes with commanders decks?
For context for a local event back in November of 2017, I built a Reaper King deck to donate to the winner of the local commander event. Originally the deck was supposed to be done by October, but it still fit the holiday theme of November all the same.

Just for fun though I was wondering if you guys had to assign a commander deck to each month, and base that assignment on the most well known holiday of that month, what commander decks do you think best fit various respective months?

Obviously December would be a group hug deck, but which one given the many choices?
For February what kind of deck would you even build, or would one just do a decent panther commander deck?

Like I said this is thread is just for fun musings, but I am curious to hear you guys opinions.

That is a good point with regards to the iconic cards, you are right that I don't want the draft to be boiled down to who drafts with the best cards wins. I guess I will have to pick the rares careful with which rares I pick.

  • posted a message on Need some advice with a Kamigawa focused cube.
So there is a person at my local gaming store who has put together a cube that focused on recent standard cards (As well as ante cards, and conspiracy because he is a madman) and honestly just playing a draft with his cube has gotten me interested in building a cube of my own. Problem is while I have been playing magic for a long time (Off and on again sense cold snap), I have not personally played draft a whole lot, even counting the cubes I have been playing recently I can still count the amount of times I have drafted on both hands. So I wanted to get some advice with the cube I wish to build, but here is my current plan...

So I wish to build a Kamigawa themed cube featuring only cards from those three sets, this is because Kamigawa has always looked like a weird, but fun set to me, but I never really got the chance to play with it. The Current break down is as follows...

1 Rare, 3 Uncommons, and 10 commons per pack. With the cube itself having.
    25 Rares
    75 Uncommons
    250 Commons
For a total of 350 (If my math is right, that should be about 25 booster packs, so enough for 8 people to draft with 1 left over.)

In order to try to represent the sets in the block somewhat equally between the three I was going to break it down as follows
Each set has 8 Rares representing it (Leaving 1 Rare slot left over)
25 Uncommons form each booster set.
83 Commons from each booster set. (Leaving 1 common slot left over)

Of course I will try to distribute colors evenly over all, as well as have lands and artifacts.

So given these parameters what would be the advice, and or suggestions you guys would give? What are some must include draft cards, and what should I avoid putting in the cube? Any advice is good advice, and thanks in advance.

  • posted a message on Could Deserts be worth it in commander?
I assume the answer is no when talking about competitive decks, but I have had R/U/B Bolas deck that was built in the past and is currently disassembled that I wanted to rebuild. It is not a series deck by any means, just a fun (for me) grixis control with a heavy bolas theme. I was thinking however going over the Amonkhet/hour of devastation cards that I wanted to include some of that flavor when I get around to rebuilding the deck, and was wondering if deserts have any real use in EDH? I know that the effects are weak, but assuming including them will not cause mana problems (A big assumption, but humor me here) are the worth a look or are they really that bad?

I was thinking of specifically of including the following Deserts.
    Cradle of the Accursed
    Desert
    Dunes of the Dead
    Endless Sands
    Grasping Dunes
    Hostile Desert
    Ifnir Deadlands
    Ipnu Rivulet
    Painted Bluffs
    Ramunap Ruins
    Scavenger Grounds
    Sunscorched Desert
    Survivors' Encampment

So what is the general opinion of such cards, and what do you guys think?

Thank you guys for the clarification, while I don't feel like building a deck that follows all ban lists, I will likely build a deck for each ban list, so that way I can play any type of EDH without to much hassle.

Alright, so I am familiar the banned list in multiplayer commander. I know of the existence of the french banned list being geared towards 1v1 play unlike the "standard commander" banned list. My Question is what is the official US 1v1 banned list? I saw the MTGO ban, but does that apply to irl games? Also what is the duel commander banned list is that another way of saying 1v1 or is that a 2v2 format? Sorry for the dumb questions, but wanted to make sure.

Alright the basic idea of this deck building challenge is simple, but wanted a second opionon, as well as advice. Basiclly there is a person in my local game store who declared that they are up for any mtg challange I could come up with. He likes to build EDH decks, so I want to challenge him in that regard. The basic idea is we would have a 25$ budget to spend on the EDH deck with basic lands being provided for free by me. We would only build these decks with the cards at out local game store. Outside of rares which vary in price commons are 10 cents and uncommon are 50 cents. Any advice on making this challenge fair as possible as well as advice on how to carry out this challenge?

  • posted a message on Non-Un cards for my Un EDH deck?
I have been thinking about brewing up a just for fun, only playing it if everyone in the playgroup agrees to it, Un-EDH deck. Given that there is a new Un-set I have held off on building yet, as I want to see what the new Un-cards might bring other than Swords of Dungeons and Dragons, which of course will go right in.

The thing about this deck that I could use help with is the Non-Un aspect of it. My quota for this deck is at least 50 percent of it has to be Un-Cards (Though more than this if fine, this 50% does include the land cards) The non-Un cards have to fall into 1 of 2 categories

1 - Commander Stable that is indispensable (Such as Sol Ring, or Command Tower)
2 - The card is hilarious, weird or annoying Such as Naked Singularity (Weird), Steam Flogger Boss (Hilarious), or Palladium Angel(Annoying)

So I am asking you guys what are some of the most head scratching, weirdest, or out right annoying cards in MTG that are specifically not Un-cards?
Also I have not settled on a General yet, if the new Un-set has a legendary commander with 2 or more colors I will likely build the deck around him/her, but failing that I am open to commander suggestions so long as the General his/herself follows the guidelines of non-un cards in this deck.

I know of the infinate mana combo that Heartless Summoning that is in the current standered, I got four copies my self today. I am a noob to modern so mabey this has already been explored before, and I am just not aware of it, but I assume that Heartless Summoning could be a storm engine? As it can allow you to repeatedly cast spells as often as you wish? For infinate mana to boot? As modern has more cards then standered, mabey there is an more efficient way to pull off the combo than how you do it in standered?

I am a beginner here so if this is an obvious question I apologize, but what is, generally speaking, the difference in build between a storm deck build made for pyromancer ascension vs a storm deck that uses a different engine. What pros does pyromancer have, and is its con slowed down speed?, or is there more cons then just that?

Could I please have some advice on where to take this dragonstorm deck? While I am on a budget so I can not get the mana base that some of these decks listed here have I can definitely spare somewhere in the range of 20-40$ in order to improve this deck.

    Win-Con
    Bogardan hellkite x4
    Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund x1
    Dragonstorm x4
(Plan B) Empty the Warrens x2

    Mana Boost/Storm
    Seething Song x4
    Pyretic Ritual x4
    Desperate Ritual x4
    Pyromancer Ascension x2

    Draw Power
    Manamorphose x4
    Faithless Looting x3
    Gitaxian Probe x4

    Destroy Creatures
    Grapeshot x4

    Land
    Mountain x9
    Island x4
    Halimar Depths x4
    Izzet Boilerworks x3

Obviously I need to get better duel land like Sulfur falls, but other then that I am not sure what to do.
