Kelzam posted a message on Random Card of the Final Day: Maelstrom NexusYahenni is an accidental all-star in my Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck. I put them in as temp filler while I was waiting to get some other cards and ended up leaving them in. I run a couple of the Swords in the deck to protect Hapatra, but a giant Yahenni with a Sword is pretty lethal when Hapatra gets hated constantly, and there's creatures dying left and right. When they run out of fodder I like to use Pharka, God of Affliction to give them more creatures to kill Yahenni just gets super big, super fast. Love them!Posted in: Commander (EDH) -

MRHblue posted a message on Hidden GuerrillasIts really good in enchantress I think, but not good enough in most other decks. Sure its a one drop, but with 3 toughness its going to get blocked and die soon enough.Posted in: Commander (EDH) -

asmallcat posted a message on Is it time to hang up my MTG hat permanently?Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from pyladesActually no, I played with and against the deck he's talking about and Howling Mine, Mana Flare was how you did it back in the day. It' wasn't, "less competitive", it was the best way to cast your Shivan Dragons and Colossus of Sardias. It's really a shame that you never were able to play in that era. You might have a different perspective.
And then you died to the actual good decks. -

Sinfire Titan posted a message on [[SCD]] PenanceIf you aren't using it to enable Miracle triggers, your meta had better be really heavy on the RB cards. It isn't that good outside of those situations.Posted in: Commander (EDH) -

Galspanic posted a message on Why is trying to win bad?I find games with denial elements to be much more interactive than games where everyone is racing ahead uncontrolled to an inevitable bomb play that wins someone the game. The games of denial are more complex, interesting, fun, and social.Posted in: Magic General

Odric would give them all double strike anyway tho, just because Kwende has double strike.
You could even just use very efficient first strikers like Porcelain Legionnaire and Baneslayer Angel.

Aside: I meant tap lands. Pain lands are my go-to budget recommendation, though.
Vivids have value in Atraxa, Praetors' Voice, since they're just taplands that add one mana of any color there, but that's the only deck I can think of where they're useful.
