That gameplay by Chas was embarrassing. How does he not drop the Judge's familiar TWICE in a row? I don't understand it...

Who says that devotion will even be a mechanic in the next 2 sets? It won't be. The only thing you need to watch is the double or triple color cost on permanents. Since they only put 1 triple color cost in the entire set of Theros I don't see them adding too many more.

There are many blank spots for double color in the 2-3 drop spot for decks right now. Most of them are 4-5 mana for the doubles (within theros and m14). All the devotion enablers are coming from RtR.

I think it is at its highest point right now. They always print things that will hose the current strategy. Since WotC R&D make the strongest strategy so blatantly obvious now they will give use tools to fight it in the sets to come.

It should stabilize at $10 which was the preorder price.

Considering you thought devotion was a fad during the pro tour, I don't think you have much faith in the Nyx keeping up any value due to devotion not being "a thing" much longer.

Except it completely dominated the GP this week, so there's that.

Polukranos died to Rats. My word, whoever said Pack Rats were terrible in the new Standard is surely eating their words now.

Many people saying devotion was a fad too...

2 Mono U and 3 Mono Black in the top 8... a bunch more in the top 16 including g/r devotion.

I believe two are Mutavault-based. Not too sure though since the lists aren't readily available. And one Mono-Blue is gone.

One Mono U is gone, another still in there though. Sam Black got knocked out by Esper.

And once again, the commentators completely and utterly missed what was going on at the end of the Esper mirror. Jensen wins because the last card in his library is a land, which the Jace Ultimate can't nab. What an insane end to a game.

Wait... what happened? I missed the game, so I didn't quite follow what you were saying Smile

That they will. Be I don't see how a 5/5 for 4 that can Wrath your opponent's board and become a one shot kill is a 'bad card'.

    It dies to removal...

A lot of bad cards will win you games when you have 88 mana.

This card is the nuts in G/R devotion and even mono red devotion....

I suspect it'll stick at it's current price point for pretty much the entire season. It won't be a CoS type card I don't think as it won't support every shell, but $15-20 dollars each seems reasonable going forward.

Honestly just ignore people like that, they're not worth your time.

To give an example, I traded a host of old standard cards last weekend... I didn't expect $25 each for a bonfire because well, that's absolutely stupid. They're worth $6-7 or whatever it is now, so that's what I valued them as.

I do find standard players are a little crazy in terms of "making sure everything adds up exactly" though. If there's $2 dollars off, they'll sure find another card for that price point to throw into the deal. Me, personally, I could care less.... if I like the cards Im getting and it's close on trade value then it's a done deal for me - I don't NEED to make sure it's completely level. The card prices fluctuates so much anyways why am I going to nit pick on a couple of bucks when in a week from now the price could be a few bucks the other direction?

But to answer your original question, no not everyone who plays standard is like that. Just remember who that person is and when they go to ask you to trade again just simply say you're not interested. You'll be able to find lots of more reasonable magic players who you can trade with.

3 devotion decks in the top 8, along with lots of control decks.

Not bad for a decktype that will fail HARD after the pro tour... Also, I think every match I watched on camera had some sort of control variant playing, whether that's U/W, Esper or even a black control based deck, it definitely has a strong showing.

The R/G devotion deck is absolutely nuts and Master of Waves is still putting up pretty decent results. Surprised to see no mono red in the final 8 though, I think that's still a very strong deck. I've played multiple versions of it and it's been very good against control shells but has a really tough time with mono U.

Still so early in the season but a lot of variation already. Makes for a very healthy format.

From here, I would work my way down to start cutting for at least 4 one-drops such as Judge's Familiar or that 0/1 Evolve guy. Maybe I won't even have to curve out while playing whatever it is that I want, wish I could contact that the guy that brewed this monster since I'm probably off by a few card choices. I think he was using Izzet guildgate but since he was only using red for Ral and RR, I don't think he needed more than 8 red sources anyways

In my opinion, those flyers your cutting are the backbone of this deck. They're close to the last cards I'd cut, personally.... I've done so much work with them - especially the cloudfin raptor. Who knew a 0/1 who's usually a 3/4+ would be such a beatstick.

I'd pick up your playset now. I see no reason why this card won't reach and maintain the same price tag that Cavern of Souls commanded last season. If Cavern hit $25, so will this.

Yeah I really agree with this... not to mention if devotion decks get really popular it'll skyrocket even more.

I have 6 and counting... I think they'll go even higher value than they are now.

Yeah it's really tough to say and a good question.

On one hand, it's an absolute must-include 4 of in decks like Mono Red Devotion and Gruul Devotion, which really look to be very powerful decks. On the other hand, if those decks dont' end up being used for a lot of the season, I think they'll end up dropping in price to the $10-12 dollar range IMO.

There is a vast breadth of difference between building a deck to win a single event and building a deck that can survive and adapt in a changing meta game. Notice how the original build of Aristocrats got scrapped within two weeks of its pro tour debut? Playing subpar cards with synergy can attack an open field well enough but it will never last the test of time.

UB means you are only running 4-6 lands that have to enter tapped...

That leaves 18-20 other sources for having your second U on turn 2. Not hard at all. Even more when you consider dropping the 1 drops to open up card space, which in turn allows you to afford your land to EBT turn 1 into turn 2 Tidebinder or Weird.

Thats true but there's also mutavaults and perhaps even shrines to squeeze in there.

I simply don't know the answer to this question, it needs to be play-tested and see how it performs. I would absolutely go black if it were me, thoughtseize, duress and doom blades are all 1 black in their cc and all could be great even if it's sideboarded.

Lots of ways this deck could be even better but it's pretty damn good now.
