I like new Lili and Gideon Jura. Gideon is just so versatile in control builds, and Lili can really put a stranglehold on your opponent if you get her out early enough.
I'd love to see more of the high fantasy flavor from the early sets. Tribes like Imps, Wraiths, Centaurs/Minotaurs, Wurms, Manticores, Dragons (I know they're in pretty much every set, but it would be cool to have dragon tribal with an actual curve), Hydras, Skeletons, Shades, Ogres, Orcs, Barbarians, Druids, Pegasuses/Unicorns, Faeries, Wolves, Trolls, Knights.
But my dream is to someday see Shapeshifter tribal. There's so much potential there!
I don't see how I can be pleased with such a more or less useless card? Avacyn didn't need to be some overly powerful be all, end all "bomb" with no true constructed playability. The story doesn't even really suggest it. All allusions/nods to her in card form have been represented by 4/4 and flying that's a wonderful starting point for a good card and I wish they went in that direction. Iconic PWs are typically the only iconic "characters" from Magic that end up being "good" these days, some exceptions here 'n there, but not enough. All we know about her is that she's able to maintain a BALANCE between good/evil in Innistrad, right? Her ability could cover that and she could be 4-5CMC (even if triple white) with some cool balancing ability. Oh well.
So yeah: disappointed.
I was also hoping for a smaller, more cast-able Avacyn. 4/4 would have been perfect. I grew up with Serra Angel and Seraph, and, in my mind, 4/4 is already the quintessential size for an angel. And to me, it always seemed like Avacyn's power came from her bravery and goodness, not necessarily her colossal size. I never even imagined her as bigger than any other angel, just more special.
I was a little disappointed that she isn't more playable (8 is an absolutely HUGE cmc and cards in that ballpark need to really swing the game the moment they hit the battlefield to be constructed playable), but I think she's just fine for the type of player who would want her. At any rate, as an embodiment of Avacyn, she's fittingly huge and powerful, and the art is pretty.

I started playing Magic right around when 4th edition came out, then I took a long hiatus shortly after Urza block. I started playing seriously again about a year ago.
I like deck-building and tend to play a different 60 every week. My favorite card is a three-way tie between Floral Spuzzem, Cryptic Command, and Isochron Scepter, and my favorite format is Modern. I would consider myself a competitive player, but I still have a ways to go as far as tightening up my gameplay.
Anyway, I look forward to obsessively indulging in the discussion of magic with you fine folks!
