Do cards like these have their Power/Toughness represented by their card text's value in all zones, or are the * values represented as 0 as long as they're not in play? Say that I were to have a Recruiter of the Guard enter the battlefield under my control, while I have 3 lands in play and 3 creature cards in my graveyard. Would I be able to tutor for Molimo, Maro-Sorcerer or Mortivore, respectfully?
I'm assuming I can't do this, but just for confirmation's sake; If I use Chandra, Torch of Defiance's first +1, and the card I exile is, for example, a Wheel of Fate. I would be unable to cast the spell, as it has no legal cost, correct?
Say that an opponent is casting something like Tarmogoyf and I want to cast Disrupting Shoal on it. Would I be able to exile Beck // Call, naming Beck as the exile cost to counter? Or does the spell always have a CMC of 8?
I've seen that cards like Burning Wish may be used in EDH, but if they are, what's the Sideboard size limit?
In addition, say my Commander, in this case, Queen Marchesa dies with Athreos, God of Passage out. If the targeted opponent does pay the 3 life, am I allowed to return her to the Command Zone, or is she forced to sit in the Graveyard if I don't send her to the Command Zone immediately upon death? Also, should she get Exiled while in the Graveyard, am I allowed to return her to the Command Zone at that point, too?
Fertile Ground can change its mana on a whim, Utopia Sprawl can't. There's a lot of times when playing this I'll need double Green for dropping Early Harvest, or multiple Gaea's Touch before having to sacrifice them, and then later on in the combo I can switch the mana over to Black or Red without disrupting any part of the combo. It's very common to end the combo by tapping a land that's enchanted with 2 Wild Growth, 1 Abundant Growth, and 1 Fertile Ground to make BBGG for a lethal Tendrils of Agony, and that Fertile Ground has been Green pretty much the whole time prior. The deck already goes off on turn 3~4 ~85% of the time with my current build which is why, again, I'm not worrying about the main board and certainly do not NEED Utopia Sprawl. The only change I might make to go with the Green Sun's Zeniths is to cut a Forest for a Dryad Arbor to make it more consistent to win on turn 3 than 4. Also, Green Sun's Zenith fills 2 massive niches. It allows me to effectively run 8 copies of Argothian Enchantress, and I can pop it for 0 later on if I'm on the brink of getting the infinite loop going to make sure I don't kill myself overdrawing 1-too-many cards because of Argothian Enchantress, Enchantress's Presence, and Abundant Growth, all being mandatory triggers. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.
I'm not looking to change up the core deck, that's working fine as-is. Cutting Abundant Growth for Utopia Sprawl would NEVER happen because of the text of "Draw a Card." It's one of the main ways you get the deck going and draw out quickly. Same thing on the Cadaverous Bloom. This deck loops off with multiple instances of Gaea's Touch and Early Harvest, so permanently ditching lands for anti-synergy with both on a card that costs 5 mana is a big no-go. Also makes the deck far more susceptible to being interrupted, meanwhile I can recover pretty easily in the current setup if a turn gets disrupted.
As for the original topic, City of Solitude is a card I totally forgot about, I also recently remembered Choke, so I'll be sure to pick up some of those.
As I've mentioned though, I've been pretty out of the loop for about 3 years. So I don't know if there's anything I should update the mainboard with, and completely don't have a sideboard. I feel like Seal of Primordium is a good place to start for the side, but I don't know where I'd even begin to go from there.
When Sin Prodder's upkeep trigger goes off, if my opponent were to send, for example, a Boom // Bust to my graveyard from my library, how would the damage be calculated?
So this would mean I DO have to pick a target to enchant as it's revealed? Such as, say Primal Surge puts out 40 cards onto the battlefield, if Infinite Reflection is card 12, I can't use it to enchant, say, card 27?
Let's say I'm allowed to resolve Primal Surge, and one of the cards I put out is Infinite Reflection;
- Do I need to enchant something that I have out as it's revealed, or do I pick after everything is revealed?
- If I enchant, for example, Creature 7, will Creatures 1-6 still have their abilities trigger first, would they ETB as Creature 7, or do both occur?
I really like the look of it. If I were to make it ASAP there'd be some other minor tweaks made to budget it before my next paycheck, how does this look for a list? Only thing I'm having a genuinely hard time with is making the Sideboard.
Hey, was hoping this could help me out in terms of trying to get back into the competitive scene after a 2 year absence. Glad to see we have one of these threads now. Just out of curiosity, as I have large collection, would it help if I put my cards in order of Color>Rarity/CMC>ABC? I was typing it out before and I want to say there were like, 100 cards or so I was typing out as I found them and in no particular order. Just trying to make it as easy as possible for you guys to help me out on it

I was thinking of stuff like Pithing Needle, Torpor Orb, Stony Silence, Celestial Purge, etc. Also, thoughts on Porphyry Nodes over Path to Exile? I know I'm not running either right now, but for flexibility's sake when I'm testing. Also Heliod, God of the Sun can keep it active without dying, either. Lastly, thoughts on Spear of Heliod potentially to deal with the rare occurrence of a creature getting through and setting up lethal earlier? I'd probably be dropping the 4 Rune Snag for 3 Mana Leak and 1 Spear of Heliod, if that were the case.
