So my Jund deck has more or less turned into a red deck splashing Taigas for Sarkhan Vol. I want to be able to put some pressure on the opponent and run a slightly longer game. To that end, I am considering running 2x Ember Hauler and 2x Kargan Dragonlord for the longer game, with 2x Hellspark Elemental and 2x Keldon Marauders for the pressure.
Thoughts on those numbers or creature selections?
It curves out at 4, with Sarkhan, Archwing, Rathi and Lightning Dragons being at the top.
If I can make a suggestion for blue aggro, maybe go generic blue if Illusions and Merfolk are pricey. You could run:
The lands are no problem. I have Taigas and Badlands; back in 03 or 04 I bought em in pairs when they were only 30-40 bucks a pop. I see your point about opposing strategies. To scale down the big dragon, maybe split it between Lightning Dragon, Rathi Dragon, and Archwing Dragon?
As far as viashino go, would you say Thunder-Thrash Elder over Viashino Sandstalker? I bring up the Elder because he can get rid of Jackal Pups/Goblin Guides that become a pain later on.
I'd like your opinion on the BRG 2-drops I mentioned as well. Thanks.
This right here is a pretty solid Jund deck in the old terror-of-standard vein. The card quality here is just nuts. I've made a few alterations here and there to make things more aggressive and brutal to the opponent, but it's very similar overall to the powerhouse Jund's always been.
The problem with Bloodhall Ooze is that it's just not a powerful card. It's the very lucky ooze that gains even a single +1/+1 each turn, which just isn't enough to make it as good as Putrid Leech or any of the other cards in the deck. Still, if you want to run it you could - just bear in mind it's going to lead to a power drop. Let me know if this kind of deck is what you're looking for before any more tweaks.
I was thinking more along the lines of a weenie beater that could spring a Broodmate for a surprise kill. Specifically, Jund weenies. Looking at what's out there, I see Viashino Slaughtermaster, Goblin Deathraiders, Rip-Clan Crasher, and Jund Hackblade. As far as 1-drops go, I've got those lined up.
4 copies of Jackal Pup, Goblin Guide and a singelton Grim Lavamancer. When it comes to springing the big dragon, I was thinking either Mana Flareor Mox Diamond(s) with Dark Ritual(s). If I were to go with Flare, a *really* big BAMF like Hellkite Overlord might be better, so that I can better abuse the Flare with its Firebreathing ability.
The use of Ritual/Diamond was an idea I had inspired by an old Pojo deck garage. It was a Crosis deck. From what I recall, it used 4 Ritual, 4 Diamond, some burn and discard, with the Invasion bears plus Nightscape Familiar, Fireslinger, and Phyrexian Negator. It ran 3x Crosis. I would probably go with 2x Broodmate, or 1x Broodmate and 1x Overlord (if Flare were the accelerant).
My biggest beef with the Standard lists is that I'm not sure how to work in, say, Bloodhall Ooze for an early drop. That list is closer to my ideal though than, say, the Modern/Legacy Jund builds, which are really closer to the old Rock decks. If you could toss out some ideas as to how to work in 4x Bloodhall Ooze and work in Legacy legal cards, like Chain Lightning, that would be great...
...to be honest, lots of Jund's 2-drop critters like Goblin Deathraiders, Jund Hackblade, etc. have nice artwork, and I'd like to use them. However, I'm not sure if Deathraiders/Hackblade/Rip-Clan Crasher would be able to put up a fight. Perhaps ye old Shivan Zombie and Yavimaya Barbarian would be better? The pro-white/pro-blue protects them from Swords, Path to Exile, Oblivion Ring, Lightning Helix, Vapor Snag etc.
Essentially, I've got the problem of so many options, so little room.
Stairc, do you have any suggestions for a Rgb deck that is primarly Red? I'd like to sort of have a few little threats and curve up to a Broodmate Dragon, or even Hellkite Overlord.
Putrid Leech. The colours are Jund's, however the text indicates that it is currently in Naya. It also references a propensity for devouring, which is of course characteristic of Jund. However its zombie status is something you'd expect to find in Grixis, and the casting cost could easily be a bleed-over between green from Naya and black from Grixis.
I'm working on an exclusively Jund deck, so I figured you guys would be the best ones to ask.
Red mages, I have a conundrum. I'm branching out into my namesake colours. Obviously Bob and Goyf are shoe-ins for the deck; as far as a red 2-drop I am stuck between either Keldon Marauders or Hellspark Elemental. Both feed the Goyf, though the Marauders could get chumped, whereas Hellspark is likely to get its damage through.
Plus it takes two removal spells to off Hellspark. Thoughts?

Delver of Secrets
Ninja of the Deep Hours
Coralhelm Commander
Stitched Drake or Sea Drake (I think its come down in price)
Unstable Mutation
All of these a pretty aggressive blue guys.
