A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

I'm similarly excited about the new avenues NewKozi (doesn't flow as well as Newlamog...) opens up for us.

To further discussion, if <> does end up being a mana cost that can be paid by colorless only, I'm hoping we'll see more unique/powerful colorless cards given the <> restrictions.

I'm hyped for this block, if only for these new <> cards.

The number of decks he's good against is more narrow than you think. Also, 9 mana for something that can be easily removed/countered is a big gamble. I don't really expect to see it in many lists, maybe a few sideboards if the meta is right.

At this point, especially after this weekend, I don't think Wizards has any reason to not unban Sword of the Meek. It'll help this surge of aggro and encourage a healthy format.

Here's to hoping Tron eeks out a win, even against all the aggro decks!

I think it needs a couple of weeks for people to be comfortable with it.

I wasn't too involved in Magic when Ugin came out. Did Ugin catch fire immediately?

Adding to both Thenarus and purklefluff, I think Conduit is a solid choice for Main or SB depending on the Meta. In the end, I think it is a better choice than some of our other bombs (such as, versus un-interactive decks), and it is more of a catch-all than our more specific hate cards.

I can foresee Conduit being one of those cards you'll see in some lists, but not in others. All in all, I think it gives us more lines of play and more versatility as far as deck building and metagaming go.

Hopefully, the next set will throw us a couple of more bones.

After hearing some arguments from you guys here, I think perhaps the big divide here on Conduit of Ruin is that we keep comparing it to Wurmcoil and Karn, each of which have bigger immediate board impact. The thing is, Conduit is used to set up for a next turn Ulamog (old or new), and that may be just what we need against some decks; the pressure is real. I think not at least play testing this gem is a mistake.

Perhaps I'm just a bit crazy but Bane of Bala Ged seems like it might actually be worthwhile. Not in the maindeck but as a replacement for wurmcoil out of the sideboard for the matchups where wurmcoil is kinda useless. If it hits the field turn 3 unanswered, I can see decks like ad nauseam and scapeshift having a very hard time getting out from under it. The question then becomes how to free up 3 sideboard slots though

thats kind of useful. i'm sure the anti bane of bala ged argument will be it is vulnerable to path to exile but all the same. its an awesome 7cc if it sticks around!

I almost thought the same. The thing is, I feel like Conduit or Wurmcoil is usually in a better spot than this guy. An important note is that your opponent gets to choose which permanents are exiled.

I'm a little hesitant in getting on the Conduit of Ruin train- compared to our other 6cmc/7cmc slots, it foregoes stabilization in the form of wurmcoil engine/removal in the form of Karn for more ramp to Eldrazi. It might improve some match ups.

I'm thinking it'd make a good SB card, in addition to what I think will be at least a solid 1 of Newlamog in future Tron decks.

Still, I know for many of BFZ was THE block for us to gain some additions to power up our Tron decks. RIP Annihilator, but I am definitely digging all these cards with "When you cast" clauses.

Great job to everyone who went to the GP!

Looks like we were well represented. I feel like Gr Tron is at the point in the meta where we'll usually find a way to sneak in 1 or 2 people in the top 16, and maybe more in the top 32. As long as BGx is a thing though, Gr Tron has some place in the meta.

Here's to hoping maybe we get some upgrades in BFZ this fall!

    +1 for boil

I think your sideboard looks solid. I would probably run 4x clasm 3x stone just for a little bit more of early interaction. Between 4 clasm, 3 stone, 2 Ugin I feel like you got your sweepers pretty well covered.

I would really find some way to fit in Defense Grid. With the rise of company and continued prevalence of twin, I feel like that card is going to be really useful. Maybe drop the Sundering/Caverns/Feed the clan for 2x defense grid and a forest/GQ MB?

Nice to see this deck (and more importantly MTGS members) putting up solid results! Good job!

My list looks like yours except -the torpor/defense grid, and the 3rd skite. +1 Ghost Quarter and 2 Thragtusk. Oh, and I ran the whole playset of Pyroclasm.

How did Defense Grid and Firespout perform for you?

Actually, I already have the BOPs so I was going to playtest both versions. The biggest roadblock is the Nobles.

What would I slot in for those additional mana dorks then? More disruption? Maybe a hybrid deck? That seems okay in theory, but I am afraid it will be mediocre upon testing...

Another question, and I apologize if this belongs in the budget forum.

If I start playing dorks, and I can't afford the Noble Heiarchs, what should I play instead? (assuming a full playset of Birds of Paradise)
