I view it as a 'cornering' effect. Depending on how the play is going it gives you (me) the options of sucking (and gaining) the life out of them or letting them know they have two infect counters left until the end of the game.
Again, like I said, it's a fun thing and nothing serious. If done right (with say, death touch) then it makes it rough and entertaining.
So being random as I can be at times with my friends I was thinking of the perks of Extort. Being a fan of Infect (although I play Green infect) I realized that Plain/Swamp Infect/Extort duo might just be a terribly fun concept.
Issue is I'm not a hundred percent where to begin with the exception of Blind Obedience in this stack.
What ideas might you have? It's all out of fun so I'm embracing a full range of modern in on this.
No one have any ideas, thoughts or suggestions? I'm rather stuck on where to really begin with this and attempting to looking through cards online creates the headache I don't want!
Been thinking for a while (and not even really sure where to begin) that a Modern Exalted Infect deck could be a lot of fun. I've had success with my Infect deck (my first child) and I love my Blue/W Exalted; however, the dangers of a Exalted Infect entice me.
What do you think? How would you set something up or suggestions?
I've been scanning the (Modern) forums attempting to find some tips and tricks on building a nice, solid Populate deck based off of Grove of the Guardian and Wayfaring Temple.
I feel like I'm having some difficulties on the construction of this deck and not sure if I should really blend the white Spirit side into it or if I'm just stressing to much over Wayfaring Temple (and in turn, Geist-Honored Monk) and how to run it properly.
I tend to use cards from 2011 Core - Current and any suggestions would be super
No, the copiable values of a token are the values defined by the effect that originally made the token, and do not take into consideration power/toughness altering effects such as the one from Gigantomancer, auras or equipment, ability changing effects, etc.
Let me reword so that I understand...
If you copy a token that is 7/7, it is not 7/7 but is instead the base of 3/3, correct?
Not to derail this too much, but if you're open to suggestions, you sound like a prime candidate for a cube.
Cube is one of my favorite formats, and it is incredibly balanced. It is also cheap-as-sleeves if you play with proxied cards.
We have a whole subforum dedicated the beautiful format, if you'd be interested in taking a gander.
Cube is a little like DnD in that it is a decent amount of work for the person or persons building the cube, but not that much work for the players.
As for skill level vs results, here's how my cube often works... (win-loss)
"I'm going to draft combo!" - 0-3
"How many cards do I draw in my opener? What's a nonbasic land?" 1-2
"I'm Promatim and I built this cube." 1-2
"I am any other player in Promatim's core magic group." 2-1
"I drafted red/green because I'm excited about christmas." 3-0
I've been playing magic for 17 years, and I'll lose sometimes to the people I'm teaching to play, when we play cube. It's a very balanced format where skill is rewarding, and yet... it somehow scales from uber-casual to super-competitive very well, without anyone getting their feelings hurt.
And because part of my post should be on topic... what type of effects? Is this going to be like... an extended planechase tournament?
Random teams might help things a bit, I guess!
I'm very open to suggestions as I keep bouncing things back and forth. This is certainly one I'd love to take a peak and see what you have working!
You're never going to be able to level the playing field enough if there are cards that some can afford and others can't. It's really just not going to happen. Especially if there are some in the group more blood-thirsty than others. They're going to find the most broken card that isn't banned and use it.
I don't know that there is a good solution. Because even Pauper involves cards that are more expensive than they should be, like Daze or Lotus Petal.
Have you tried limited? Draft? Or 2HG Sealed?
I will be because they teams will be randomly drawn together for starters and I'm also going to create "effects" that they must abide by during their matches. I'm adding a lot of flare and competitiveness to it.
There may not be a good solution but having you guys give me all of this feedback gives me a great deal to work with and for that, I appreciate it

I wouldn't ban anything in those sets. A lot of decks are going to have preordain and primeval titan, so those would be on the watch list... but they're probably fine.
Yes. These are the ones that I'm considering legal for this play as I have something grander in store. Like I said, I'm making this field very even and competitive for all of them as their will be teams of 2 taking on each other in a RISK-like style of play (their idea.)
Primval Titan has crossed my mind as one of my students has at least two of them and my lord all mighty... LOL.
First off, Golgari Grave Troll is from Ravnica, wayyyy before 2011 core set, so it shouldn't be on that list. Second, that list is designed for an entirely different format and most of the cards are much weaker out of the context of the modern format. None of the combo decks will exist in your format in as powerful a form, so Preordain/Ponder have no reason to be banned, and Green Sun's Zenith is only "overpowered" in the context of cards like Dryad Arbor and Tarmogoyf. Long story short, I wouldn't ban anything, and wait and see if there's a dominant deck, which you can then address with bans.
I'm limiting them because of many different factors. I have some students that have a TON of cards while other students have a handful. Its my attempt (in addition to something else I'm doing.) to make the playing field as even as humanly possible for all of them. Golgari is on the list because he was reintroduced in the VS Deck and is banned per Wizards.
I may have not made my self clear but any cards before the 2011 Core are not allowed in what I am doing! Apologizes are given to those who need it.
Stabulous - I am not the best at acronyms with Magic cards yet. Would you be kind enough to share those titles with em?
In the next couple of weeks I will be hosting a kind of tournaments of sort for some of my students; however, we will be capping play to (what I'm dubbing) a "Modern Limited" play which will only allow cards from 2011 Core to Current.
I have compiled a list off of the Wizards of the Coast website such as Green Sun Zenith, Ponder, Gogari Grave-Troll and all the ones that are modern that fall in this time frame.
Would you have any suggestions to add for banned-cards starting from the 2011 Core?
I'll have to see if I have any of the Aven Squires from my recent purchases - was not aware of him and he would be fair addition.
It certainly needs to be more of a focus, with my focus being on Sublime Archangel and her ability. Knowing that Tokens would increase the damage of her ability, I've opted for a Spirit Deck as Requiem Angel is her counter part to this in the sense that any time anything dies (including tokens), I'm applying a token in it's place.
Maybe it's naive of me to do but if I can get a greater focus on those two and use abilities like Geist-Honored Monk, then I feel confident to have some fun.
Edit: And if I can apply the right cards to get such a card like Requiem Angel out easier and protected such that with the abilities of Witchbane Orb then all my concerns would be into Artifacts / Enchants that boost.
I was thinking of Lingering Souls in the past but felt that it would be void due to the Flashback cost and not sure how to go about using its flashback ability as it requires Swamp.
Again, like I said, it's a fun thing and nothing serious. If done right (with say, death touch) then it makes it rough and entertaining.

Yeah, pretty much bottle. I guess I would rephrase my opening question now with the following...
Would there be any cards as players that you would consider banning from an Extended Play which starts with the 2011 Core to Current?

What would you suggest replacing Erase with then?
