With twin gone, I think this card can be pretty brutal now, with URx decks becoming more popular now, and its pretty close to chain of vapor most of the time it will just cost U. I'm going to start testing a few main board, as an answer to problem permanents
Tried your cube on cubetutor. Was forcing infect and tbh i dont see what lots of the cards in your cube are doing in there.
Got excited when i read your title 'combo cube' but it feels very midrangey to me. I tried forcing both dredge and infect and both times it ended up dry soon. (very short on playables)
ah thanks, yeah you can't make all the combos too well in 8 man games, in 3-4 you can get more cards you need. Could you post the cards your confused about
i like your list yuseimax thought i think replacing jace with beast within would be a good idea: beast within lets you handle noncreature threats, create targets for demonic dread or create a threat yourself in grindy games. I have my own doubts about it but only because my list is made to be flexible already. In a straight-forward list like yours it is an enourmous extra.
I've also decided after thinking about it to keep my fourth restore balance: having access to only 3 balance directly is an issue that comes up often enough, while i can't find a shuffling tool consistent and valuable enough to be worth a full slot. My conclusion is the 1/60 card we sacrifice is worth not needing a shuffler and being capable to cascade 4 times in a game reliably. it may come down to personal choice but i like it like that. Also it lets me cut primal command(since bring to light can do everything it does better), and use goblin dark-dwellers as my extra balance provider.
here is my list, the interractions go very complicated now but i love it and it's been working pretty well.
I'm considering swapping utter end for siege rhino or something goblin dark-dwellers can target instead of beast within, i see so much eldrazi/tron on cockatrice that i'm seriously considering stone rain. i think i can do better thought
I like it, I'm going to try something similar, are all those lands working for you?
Does anyone fear that Eldrazi will make Modern less diverse? I think Merfolk, Infect, Burn, Tron, Twin and Affinity will be very good picks in GP Bologna. I do not really see anything else to be really worth it, apart from the combo decks. Those decks come in my mind as beating Eldrazi. Space for midrange and alternative control will be limited due to Eldrazi pushing them away.
But it seems EVERYTHING limits midrange/control strategies - that's more a weakness of those strategies and shouldn't be the fault of the newer decks. Eldrazi (and tron) open up TONS of combo, aggro, and tempo decks as viable archetypes - so that makes some BGx decks not 50/50 anymore? I don't care. Such is life.
Eldrazi is more a midrange strat then anything really. The BW version anyways.
I'm thinking how banning Splinter Twin and Summer Bloom will affect the metagame and how we have to prepare. I think that Twin was not a bad matchup but counterspells could be problematic and against an experienced player it could be tough. Amulet wasn't such a bad matchup as well - imagine what would happen if you wipe out his lands and he has to pay for the pact next turn.
I think Twin players will switch to either UR Delver/Pyromancer decks which is not so easy to beat for us, and Grixis Control - IMO this deck is extremely hard to beat for us as long as after Balance they can play a Swamp and a Tasigur. I think that combination of discard and control is very tough for us.
Number of RG Tron will rise, this matchup is really a lottery - if they don't have a fast tron and Karn, followed by Ulamog, we have a high chance of winning. Crumble to Dust in SB is a card that can win us this match instatnly.
Affinity lost it's biggest enemy, so as long as it was already one of the best decks in the format, I'm guessing it could take the lead. People already have a lot of hate cards for affinity and it's gonna get even worse. It affects the borderpost version of Restore Balance a lot so, every deck that has white will play Stony Silence, Kataki, War's Wage or Ancient Grudge in red ones. If you don't have an answer for any of these cards right in your hand you will probably lose quickly. I know there is a Wispmare but you will not always have it in your hand. For now I'm sticking with the no-borderpost version.
Also the new Eldrazi deck can cause us some trouble as long as it can affect our suspended Greater Gargadon. I haven't tested it yet but it could be problematic.
What thoughts do you guys have on the meta changes?
I think we can still restore order to this format, the only problem decks I've come across are the graveyard decks, and those will be out less with eldrazi everywhere, and without twin we can focus are sb on other decks.
I've been playing this version, and it seems to be doing really well. I'm loving the siege rhinos to end the game very quickly. Also it works better as a 5 color control deck if you cant use restore balance.
Burn is great pack a few act of treason in the sb for easy blow outs
