Also, while mercurial geists is a Toughness 3 creature, giving him only uncaged fury is a swing for 10, i agree, he is easily removable tho but a finisher that with expedite only swings for 6 - worst case scenario removing any flier currently being used in meta
you have to play titan's strength/borrowed hostility as well to get the t5 kill
heres mine, t5 insta kill with giests, uncaged fury, and titan's strength/Borrowed Hostility. Early game defense that can also be aggressive. docent is the end game and has syngery with stormchaser mage
The reason is he is the only 3-drop that fits in the deck, deathmist raptor isn't much but a 3/3 with deathtouch in this deck. If I chose to run protector then the raptor would fit the deck better.
This is an idea thats been floating in my head for my return to standard, left because the format was just boring to me. Fairly simple midrange build that ramps and removes creatures. This deck is designed for a more anti-aggro approach. Some decent card advantage as well, waiting for the full release to build the deck.
Well, I went the two color path, and I did not regret it. 3-1 at my LGS weekly standard, good enough to split top 4.
Thoughts:
Kolaghan's Command was the freaking MVP of the night. I was never sad to see it, and it always had an impact when I cast it.
Risen Executioner was solid...when I only drew one. I never really got to make use of a second copy; I'm going to go down to 1 in the main and 1 in the side for control matchups.
Flamewake Phoenix, on the other hand, was exceptional in the games I brought them in for. The last game of the evening, my opponent passed turn with lethal on board. He was at 15 life, and I had 6 lands and a Thunderbreak Regent. I untapped, dashed Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury, paid the R to rekindle the Phoenix, and swung for 16 in the air. The other guy was dumbstruck
Dragonlord Kolaghan was solid, even as just a 6/5 hasty flying beater. The haste for other creatures was occasionally relevant, and I had two games where her final ability kept cards in my opponent's hand while I smacked him with dragons.
Flamewake Phoenix is a bad mainboard decision, it would be better replaced with more risen executioners, stormbreath Dragons (if you have them) or rabblemasters.
How is whip doing for you? I thought about trying it in my deck.
I hope to get a playset of Temple of Malice before I go, and I'll probably fine-tune the Swamp/Mountain base too since I haven't touched it in a while and I've made changes. As for the one boltwing marauder, it's supposed to be the 4th stormbreath and hope to get one or borrow one before GP, but if I can't should I side it out for more removal or maybe Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker?
I also want to pick up at least one more downfall, possibly two and go down to 3 Draconic Roar and 2 Kolaghan's commands. Might be able to borrow some Thoughtseizes as well, they'd probably replace the Wild Slashes main deck. I'll also be replacing the Seismic Ruptures with Anger of the Gods since they both do the same against me for the most part but Anger would help much more against Deathmist raptors
All thoughts, suggestions and advice is appreciated!
I would cut a bolting marauder for abother kolaghan, storms fury or stormbreath. I tried him in testing and he is week outside of tokens. Your land base is fine, just switch the caves for temples, don't want to run too many tap lands.
It does, and that's why running two if fine, but if you run more then two of any tap lands then you will slow down too much and your oppenent might get the advantage

actually, the t5 instakill is fairly easy to get to, five draws plus the seven to start usually gets to it. the deck has been running very well.
