this is funny, they KILLED all this decks with this "conservative" bans.
edit: they banned elf because it was everywhere, with the lack of combo, tron could rise even more, and a turn 3 kark or emrakul (as a finisher) are very powerful, so maaaybe they could ban them
haha Wizards "KILLED" all the decks!
Dredge, Storm and Eggs are all still decks, albeit maybe not as potent, but you can still play them. People need to stop freaking out over bans because their netdecked lists are useless now. Talented deckbuilders are always gunna try to work lists out. Not even a day after Second Sunrise was banned we have new Eggs decks that boast just as consistent a win.
With DGM we have 2 maybe 3 new decks which are all combo, so it's kind of a new playground.
I'm just glad we got that poll so we as a community know that 2/3 of Modern players agree than the banning of Second Sunrise was a good call on Wizards part.
I'm under the impression that a majority of the chunk of the playerbase that thought the ban was unhealthy were Eggs players or people who had just got around to ordering the cards for their deck. Sucks for them, but there was more than enough discussion about a possible upcoming ban to warrant delaying for the update.
regardless we're gonna start to see that Breakfast at Urza's build (the cries of 'EGGS IS DEAD, EGGS IS DEAD' go unheard by savvy deck brewers) and we have to schedule our washroom breaks for in-between matches now.
Voice of Resurgence is an interesting card to save us from board wipes, but don't leave home without Treetop Village for the same reason, with worship on the board and mana kept up ot can save you the game a lot of times.
wait, isn't the second sunrise ban just another way for eggs to be slower??
now they only have 4 cards that can help them combo off. next time, ban both WOtC.
Wizards doesn't want to make themselves look bad by banning cards that are still in print. Besides, those 4 cards are enough to basically make the deck inconsistent enough (in its current state) for it to be considered unplayable by a lot of players.
As has been said before, if they really only cared about the time factor, the correct ban was Pyrite Spellbomb. Running disciple or grapeshot barely affects the consistency of the deck at all, while drastically reducing the time required. The fact is, rather than simply correcting the stated problem, they chose to eliminate the deck entirely, and in a way that may not even solve the problem.
Banning Pyrite Spellbomb would have sped up the deck by 5 minutes at most, even with the 'faster' cards like grapeshot, eggs still has to spend 10 minutes playing solitaire to get their storm count where it needs to be.
We should have a new poll where we can vote if we think the recent ban was healthy/unhealthy for the format. I'd be very curious where the numbers end up.
Emrakul is an overpowered 15 mana cost card. That still qualifies it as overpowered. It is being abused with mechanics of cheating it into play, and there is no other "good" candidate to do anything else other than Griselbrand. The limit on design space will eventually get this card banned, Wizards can't print tons of recycled block mechanics they consistently use in fear of this card going over the top one day.
It will be banned, just a matter of time.
If you don't want to follow the logic of how this 15 mana creature outclasses every creature beyond 7 mana, just think about the fact the card is banned in Commander, it already has "unfun" stigma written all over it.
its 15 mana, if the game has been dragging on that long or they have a deck that can produce 15 colorless quickly and consistently they deserve the win. Hardcasting Emmy is pretty much GG, and wizards knew that when designing the card, they even knew decks would be able to cheat him out early, but that's the strategy their deck is going for that's what you gotta deal with, It's not impossible but I've held off facing Emmy plenty of times, between Cryptic command and ensnaring bridge there ARE answers, but he's not supposed to be easy to deal with. He's supposed to be god creature, not an elf, goblin or dragon, but an elder chaos god, probably one of the biggest creatures in MTG, and if the opponent manages to get him out it was well played on their part because their deck was designed to do it.
Emmy is nowhere near the beast that Eggs was, He won't get banned because he actually ends games, not drags them on.
Even if Golgari Grave-Troll were unbanned and was easily exploitable with Breaking//Entering it's still just a graveyard deck, tons of efficient hate, we'll just see sideboards have to stretch a bit thinner.
I'm still hoping on an eggs ban, but hopefully not lotus bloom, without seething song we're lacking ramp for decks like Hive mind, if they lost lotus bloom it would be the nail on the coffin. maybe Reshape.
Just played a game with this list and it was a lot of fun, this is a very interesting deck and I'm sure my opponent was double taking a lot when I got the ball rolling.
The problem here is if your in a 2 or 3 headed giant game and everyone's playing control it doesn't matter what you do, someone will have a counter or an answer at all times, with multiple opponents they likely aren't even vulnerable EOT.
Aggro is almost out of the question, Combo is dubious because counter magic.
But Voidslime got to be a great sideboard card against Storm and Twin, right? And almost every other combo decks?
Storm yes. However twin and other combo can be argued against. If you are keeping counter mana up EOT you'd almost always be better off countering their splinter twin or kiki than their activated abilities.
Voidslime has added utility, however you'd almost always be better off just be countering a spell anyways.
Voidslime is a great card, but activated or triggered abilities are rarely powerful enough to counter, you'd have a better time countering the creature itself. if storm comes back we might want to play it because it is very versatile.
I always found cheap Manlands like Treetop Village pair well with Worship to try and make for a fun "I can't lose" situation. Might be what you need considering how this deck is probably gunna have trouble keeping up with aggro.
I really like the idea of playing a sleeper card like that. Cast it, pass priority, Opponent reads card, concedes.
Would Biorhythm work in the Beck Elves brew?
haha Wizards "KILLED" all the decks!

I think the Noxious Revival/Bonfire of the Damned tech should be a core part of the deck if Blind Obedience is the main wincon, at worst Noxious Revival is a free extort trigger, at best its an extort trigger that sets up a win. Even Bonfire of the Damned can trigger extort for 1 mana if that's what it's down to.
Aggro is almost out of the question, Combo is dubious because counter magic.
I really like the idea of abusing Akroma, Angel of Fury though.

I personally run a set of Remand and Spell Pierce, though Mana leak and Spell Snare are certainly playable
