i'm going to try this the next event. i'm going to a GPT soon again and should have more than 8 people. but i'm gonna try goldfishing this like mad.
yes it runs 22 lands. i feel like the 4th vial should be the 2nd tec edge but my friend said to do this. thoughts?
I have a feeling you might run into mana issues with that manabase. 22 lands AND 7 Uncolored is rough even though your curve is lower you may run into problems also without birds i highly doubt you will get to use the gavony as most of the time you will end up denying a land or 2.
Sideboard wise, personally stony silence has been underwhelming and im usually happier resolving a Kataki. Also im unsure of that sunlance, i feel dismember is just plain better even with the life loss but thats probably just me.
Attended a GPT today playing a list Ive been trying recently figured id give you guys the list of what I ran and some tournament resaults, ended up going 4-2 nearly made top 8 so hopefully next week ^^.
Highlights and Matchups:
Match One: Melira Pod
Game 1: Game one I won due to having 3 Scavenging Oozes and arbiter and being able to eat my opponents Kitchen finks before the persist resolves involved some interesting trades. Thanks to a ghost quarter he did not see a Gavony activation but he did resolve 3 kitchen finks quite lucky for me there.
Game 2: Game two was interesting I ended up resolving an arbiter followed by a Mindcensor which my opponent pathed. I draw my Mirran Crusader and begin attacking him with a double exalted trigger followed by a torpor orb. He does not realize what torpor orb does and fetches his kitchen finks combo when he starts using it and realizes what actually happens passes the turn and dies to a Mirran Crusader.
1-0
Match Two: Scapeshift (RUG)
Game 1: I am on the play and resolve a turn 2 arbiter+ghost quarter combo followed by a turn 3 Smiter. My opponent relatively quickly dies to the continues attack.
Game 2: I bring in Worship and Mark of Asylum Turn 1 aether vial, turn 2 oponent has 2 mana open so I proceed to pass the turn, turn 3 he plays a fetch and passes the turn. I proceed to untap and resolve Mark of Asylum. My oponnent decides to fetch into an arbiter. He casts lightning bolt on the arbiter in response without realizing what mark of asylum does. Turn 3 I resolve an Aven Mindcensor and he picks up his cards and leaves quite angrily.
2-0
Match Three: UWR Twin
Game 1: Game 1 was won due to having 3 smiters on board and my opponent never seeing a 2ed red source the whole game with Kiki in hand I manged to deny the second red source earlier with a tectonic edge and had the path in hand in case.
Game 2: My opponent mulligans to 5 and I keep a 1 lander with 2 aether vials. Draw the second land resolve aether vial. My oponent plays a tapped land and passes the turn. I proceed to untap play another vial and pass. Opponent misses a land drop and the following turn i quickly dismantle his remaining lands while building up a board.
3-0
Match Four: Blue White Fish (I hate this matchup looking for ideas of how to improve this matchup)
Game 1: I resolved 2 Voices and 2 Smiters and a baneslayer and sigarda. Unfortunatly for me my opponent drew 3 phantasmal images and a few copies of path and ended up copying my voices and Sigarda and with the added tempo of fish overan me.
Game 2: Boarded in Engineered Explosives But never saw them, opponent resolved in the proximity of 5 lords and simply ran me over.
3-1
Match Five: Jund (I quite enjoy this matchup)
Game 1: Game one I curve out perfectly with a vial into arbiter double smiter and a Thrun, my oponnent manages to get rid of a path with inquisition and a mirran crusader but the team and his own Dark Confidant Triggers kill him.
Game 2: Game two I mulligen to 6 and keep a land aether vial and a few threats. Draw my land play an aether vial. turn 2 arbiter. My opponent curves out as I miss land drops but maintan pressure due to vial. I am left with a mindcensor and he is slowly getting me down with his dark confidant and i proceed to topdeck Mark of Asylum. My opponent attempts to draw revealing a bonfire and attempts to bonfire for 1 not realizing the mark of asylum. After it resolves he facepalms and passes the turn to me. I set my vial to 5 setting up for a possible bomb and end up drawing the baneslayer and pass the turn. My opponent by now has a goyf a scavenging ooze and a dark confidant and i still have the lonely mindensor. He attacks in response to which i vial in the baneslayer block and effectively negate his attack. He looks up at me with misery and passes the turn. I draw a smiter attack with the baneslayer stabilizing quite well and pass the turn. My opponent draws realizes he has no outs and decides to thoughtseize my smiter and then bolt himself. (Baneslayer FTW)
4-1
Match Six:
Scapeshift (RG):
Game 1: Mulligen and get 1 single arbiter and flood out while my opponent resolves a primeval titan and destroys me with it.
Game 2: Mulligen again to 5 with no luck my opponent easily curves out and resolves scapeshift. Unfortunatly I did not draw very well in this match which just plain happens.
Ending : 4-2 top 16.
All in all fun times. Its the 3ed time ive played this deck in a tournament with noble hierarchs (usually resorting to a lower curve deck with no mana dorks)and its quite awesome to play with a full version. The aether vials are surprisingly quite good still and I personally feel they work better for me than spending those slots on birds of paradise. Baneslayer is great and must be answered typically if she is not i simply automatically win. Unfortunatly i feel like fish is just a terrible match up generally or maybe I simply need to play abit better or board differently for it.
Sadly my last round was a loss to the deck itself but satisfied nonetheless.
The usual response when KotR is brought up is that Arbiter tax impedes it too much, we don't utilize fetchlands, etc. That being said, I've never actually tried it so I'm interested in your experience. How are you using it that makes it the all-star?
While its true arbiter seems like it would tax KOTR it actually does not. Most of the time if I have both out i begin to pay 2 mana sacrificing one of those lands to fetch a Ghost Quarter and proceed to destroy my opponents lands which makes KOTR quite big extremely fast. Some matches got to the point where I had left my opponent with nothing but mana dorks and the fetches in his hands. Its also quite great for fetching Stirring Wildwood
Also the fact that there's a Horizon Canopy ,Ghost Quarter and Tectonic Edge usually get it quite beefy.
Hello everyone.
Been playing hate-bears for a couple of weeks and its been loads of fun playing and building it. Was wondering if I could get some feedback on the list I'm running.
Ive had some success with this list but it feels like its missing something. Would welcome some opinions.
So far the all star has been Knight of the Reliquary.
I really like the interaction of blowing up my own flagstones and thinning out the deck which is why i have a few Ghost Quarter.
I also like Scout's Warning Cause its a cycle and a flash in of a creature which is a nice option to have open.
Hello everyone.
Big fan of the knight archetype in magic and decided to slowly get into modern I got this list in mind wondering what you guys think.
Looking for feedback (any) as I plan to try and get most cards tomorrow.
Hello everyone, new guy here started was wondering if anyone has some input for the deck. Lets hope i posted it correctly or in the correct location.
Any ideas welcome I have run this deck through FNM and have won 2/4 and 3/4 matches and do think it has potential.
At the moment i'm considering adding a few bounces or forbidden alchemy to the deck so that there are more blue spells and I do want to keep this grixis so any ideas are welcome.
The reason I included disciple is because of his interaction with gravecrawler and messenger it works out quite nicely with those two and allows me to replenish my hand.
Im also not quite sure if i should keep highborn ghoul there or not he works out nicely but there might be something better to throw in instead.
