One of the big topics these days is the reserve list and concerns that abolishing it would tank people's collections, but one thing I haven't seen discussed is the fact that, by my understanding, most of the art from the original sets is no longer usable by Wizards due to copyright laws so any reprints would have to feature updated art. As a person who is currently putting together a 93/94 cube it seems like people will still pay a ton for original art. Look at AN Serendib Efreet vs the Revised and FTV versions. Are people overlooking a possible safety valve regarding collection value?
I started building 93/94 earlier this year. I came in during Revised originally, so I actually don't mind white bordered and that has helped limit prices, but everything else is original edition. I'm in the middle of Arabian Nights right now. I got the biggies that I wanted (LoA, Juzam and S. Efreet) but, man, prices are out of control for the rest of that set and many of them are impossible to find in NM. 93/94 is probably not the way to go to save money at the moment. But man is it fun.
How does everyone feel about Shahrazad in a cube? My cube is 93/94 themed. She's obviously one of the iconic cards of that era and the effect is crazy, but it will wreck game flow. Do the pros outweigh the con?
Old school question: Personal Incarnation blocks an attacking Force of Nature. If I redirect 3 damage to myself, do I still get hit with trample damage on top of that?
I have matching lands right now. I could see using the various lands from a single set, but I don't know if I could do singleton. I want the focus on the non-land cards in the cube. That's just my personal preference, though, and I wouldn't think twice about it if I played a friend's cube with singleton lands.
So is there a story behind False Prophet? He looks a lot like Urza but I guess he's just some random dude? It seems like a weird concept to just toss out there. I assume that's him on Scour as well.
So I started back in Revised and decided to build an ABUR-themed cube. Beta is out of my price range and to keep everything black bordered I was thinking about adding a twist that every card is a modern-frame reprint or functional modern-frame reprint.
I started thinking about it and Unlimited and Collector's Edition are both within my price range, this would allow me to make a full Old Frame cube, but I'd be splashing a lot of white bordered cards in there. Any advice on what you think would be good? Does the value of the Unlimited cards offset their look?
I'm thinking about purchasing a Judge Foil Armageddon. Would it be smart to wait until FTV drops in two weeks? I have a feeling the price won't really be impacted at all, but I thought I'd ask the crowd before I jumped in.
If I have a Rooftop Storm in play and Nekusar is my commander, will he still cost extra mana to cast after each time he leaves the battlefield or does Rooftop Storm cover the additional mana cost as well?
