  • posted a message on "Selling a whole collection" thread
I don't have the time or the patience to sift through my whole collection to sell it off card by card. Does anyone have some advice on selling off a collection (20,000 cards) that ranges from the Revised/Unlimited era to the present?

    Thanks

EDIT: I 100% understand that because I am not wanting to do the dirty work of selling it off 1 by 1, that I will never get close to the actual value back. I'm okay with that. If I have to pay someone else to do it, I'm totally fine with that.

Here are my personal thoughts on this. And this is only pertaining to EXTENDING the art. Changing the art, using different art, etc is a different Can of worms.

When painting an alter, you are changing medium you are using. Going from a printed medium to a painted one. These, also, cannot be mass produced. When using a printing method (any) you are staying in the same medium to alter the card. This puts it into, in my opinion, a really gray area. Unlike the painted alters, these can be easily mass produced. The method can also be used to produce counterfeit cards. It would be best to stay away from anything that has its roots in counterfeit making.

That makes sense, and it's good advice too. How do you feel about 3D altered cards?

Thanks serrot. Sorry if this post caused a lot of extra work on your end.

My main question/concern is whether WotC sees a difference between art borders being extended manually (hand painted) vs printed (digitally painted).

These are my first attempts at some 3D work:

    Alternate art Szadek

    Golbin Token

    Oversize foil Mimeoplasm

    Daxos

I need to stress that this is just purely altering an already purchased/legit WotC card. It's just that the border stretching/altering is done digitally instead of with acrylic paints.

I keep reading that printing onto cards is illegal, but hand painting isn't. Lets say for instance that you are wanting to take this Plains, and extend the art. But, you do it digitally with a tablet, leaving the original artwork in place. Then, you use this method to print your adjustments onto the card. Is there a difference between this and hand painting in WotC's eyes?

Any help on this matter would be great. Just trying to get clear on this before I get to work on my alters.

  • posted a message on Custom MtG Table
I have a shop at my disposal, and I am seriously considering building a custom table geared completely towards MtG. I wanted to ask you all if you had any ideas for interesting things to build into it? Right now, the sky's the limit!

One interesting idea I had was creating a 1" diameter puck for each color symbol, and then attaching them to magnetic pressure latches (like this). Each seat at the table would have all 5 colors on the top side of their playmat, and you would push down on the colors of the deck you are playing, and then that puck would pop up, indicating to the rest of the table what colors your deck is. It's purely a cosmetic/novel idea, but I think it could add a cool touch.

    Any thoughts?
Another idea I had was embedding a bunch of MtG land maps into the table top. Anyone have a good resource for finding high resolution MtG maps?

Well Lurking Predators triggers when a spell is cast so it will resolve while the Angel of Serenity is still being cast which means the Stingerfling Spider will be on the field and unable to target Angel of Serenity with his ability. The Angel will then resolve and can target the spider with her ability if you choose to do so.

So, even though Lurking Predators was triggered by a "spell", that particular spell doesn't have to actually resolve for it to trigger?

It does not and in fact it will always trigger and resolve before the spell will. Any time an ability trigger "On cast" it means as soon as the spells costs are paid and people are able to respond to it.

Gotcha. Thanks! Sucks for my WIP Ruric Thar EDH deck though Smile

Player A plays Angel of Serenity. Player B has Lurking Predators in play. Lurking Predators triggers and puts Stingerfling Spider onto the battlefield.

My question is: which battlefield entrance ability resolves first between the Angel and the Spider? Or do they resolve at the same time? The Angel can exile the spider while the spider destroys the Angel?

    Thanks

Also you count the creature that enters, but other than that you are correct on how the math goes for the mana you generate. So it would be 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 =26

Are you sure that I count the creature entering? Mana Echoes states "add 1 to mana pool for each creature you control that SHARES a creature type with it." That sounds to me like you count only other creatures that share the creature type with the entering creature.
You do count the creature entering, for the simple reason that the effect doesn't say 'each other creature' and the creature does share a creature type with itself (provided it has one).

    Gatherer ruling:
10/4/2004 You do get to count the creature itself, you even get one mana if it is the only creature you have on the battlefield (assuming it has at least one creature type).

Also, why can that mana only be used during the combat phase? Mana Echoes says that the mana just goes in the mana pool. The mana pool doesn't empty until after the turn is ended.

Whoah, damn. Thanks for clearing that up!

My original question is still left a bit up in the air. Do all creatures enter simultaneously and count the existing Goblins in play all at once? Or do they trigger in succession, thus increasing the amount added by 1 for each creature that enters.

So, because the mana empties, I would have to use what I wanted for Grenzo's ability before the combat phase ends.
