I'm looking to fill out a deck I've been building and testing casually. I am looking at any suggestions in the under $30 range. I've stated competitive, because I like to win and am looking for quality suggestions. But I do recognize this is a Maze's End focused deck and is likely not going to actually be fully competitive.
I also realize that there are cards on here above $30. That's because I had them in my collection. This also goes for the timetwister, which serves a purpose in this deck (TT, Game Plan, and Time Spiral are all ways for me to draw cards, while cycling my graveyard, and being able to play multiple lands per turn).
The land base is a little off center. I don't have a sacred foundry. But I also don't think I need to have 1 of each shockland just because. A lot of the deck is green, so I want to be playing more green sources. I think I need some of the cycle lands.
The deck features the following hilarity:
Child of Alara as a blocking board clear
Oops I made a Merit Lage token from a depths/stage/sol ring on turn 2
Scapeshift + Prismatic Omen for a lot of damage
A crackling permiter seedborn muse long game to go with Maze's End
Hilarity ensues by casting numerous timetwister variants
The number of cards that can be #45 is surprisingly small with only 11 valid cards that fall between "Blue Sun's Zenith" and "Brain Storm" (you'd see 13 in gatherer but Blurry Beeble is silver bordered and Braingeyser is reserved and too similar to BSZ anyhow). There's no obvious inclusion either, as most of those 11 cards already have their set represented. My guess? Troll inclusion of Bonds of Quicksilver at common as a representative of Scars of Mirrodin. Bouncing Beebles as a representative of Urza's Legacy is also plausible. My hope will be Brain Freeze or Borrowing 100,000 Arrows getting their first foil new card face treatment.
Edit: You're right. I made a mistake! 11 it is. My guess is still boomerang

Legends is already represented, but I mean they gotta repeat at some point right?
Wow, am I tired of them designing sets for standard and limited play exclusively..
woah, you got the entire visual spoiler and were able to determine that there will be no modern-playable card in this set?
hmmm..... can I see it, I'm a limited player and I'd love to see the set.
I'm mostly talking about the recent sets in general, and after seeing Hazoret, my hype for the set is sorta' diminishing.. SOI had some really cool stuff, but I found Kaladesh and BfZ were mostly just standard playable, in my opinion.. There wasn't anything that's made a huge impact on EDH, modern, or even pauper in my area; maybe it's different in your area though!
So far the stuff I've seen here aren't really relevant outside of standard, Hazoret has synergy with madness and vehicles, but that doesn't extend outside of the current standard rotation, and with my experience from that last few sets is that this set could easily go the same way from the looks of it...
I was just expecting Hazoret to be great for EDH, as with the other Gods, but I'm not seeing anyway she would be as good as the Theros gods were for EDH, which led me pretty disappointed
Everyone has different opinions on everything, and playgroups/meta's change from place to place
I hate to break it to you, but like the majority of all sets are designed to be drafted and played in standard. At least in new world order, which is going to date back 5-6 years or more.
Also, I'm sure WotC is quite happy to downshift Augur of Bolas, or Burning-Tree Emissary for limited balance and get the benefit of downshifting them to Pauper to shift the meta a bit, they are still doing so because of the limited environment. Very rarely would they specifically say "You know what Pauper needs? a 2/2 that generates 2 mana."
Magic makes no money thinking like that. And not every legendary creature is designed for EDH. I mean like holy crap, how much EDH support do you want? You already get an ENTIRE SUPPLEMENTAL PRODUCT solely designed to put reprints, new generals and new interesting cards in your hands. How can you be upset? The last EDH set finally completed 4 color generals, not to mention the entire set provided something like 15 brand new generals.
If anything your "different opinion" just proves that it's impossible to actually satisfy everyone at all points in time. So you can take your EDH decks and sit them aside until November when you get another 20 generals and 20 new toys to play with. Let the people who enjoy drafting (or standard, I'm sure there's still a few out there) draft the set.

I think you're in the game for the wrong reasons if you're expecting them to design cards exclusively for other formats. Also these days every set gets a playable EDH card or two, more so than say legacy or cube playable. And they just downshifted a bunch of cards for pauper.. Judging by the amount of EDH decks you have ant he fact that you play pauper you should be ecstatic.
Comments like yours appear every time they make a new set. It's just white noise at this point because they aren't going to design a standard set using a whole bunch of cards they intend on playing in modern/edh/legacy/pauper. It makes no sense.
If you're only running a Gearhulk how is this better than Diabolic Tutor (reprinted and standard legal)? I mean I guess it leaves a walker on the board which allows you to keep +1'ing but ultimately is that ability enough to justify an additional 6 drop?
I feel with all the card draw already going on in standard it's unnecessary to pay 6 mana to tutor your next turns spell. Or you could just play Jeskai with the gearhulk and play Nahiri (which is probably just better).
This does give an ultimate that works nicely with clues though.
Fairly simple question here. Why is the number 540 chosen for cubing?
For larger size cubes, I can see it not mattering as much, 600-700-720-800 however many cards you want. And I get that I can literally do whatever I want with my cube because casual and fun. But I'm trying to figure out why people like 540?
I find 450 too hard for me to cut down to (my cube thread will be updated soon with my new cube). And I find 540 bloats the draft so much and there's so many cards left over (regularly draft with 6-8 people, rarely more than 8).
I'm extremely happy with where my cube is at 520 right now, but I'm just curious why these numbers are chosen the way they are.
It is really sounding a lot like the Chain Veil influencing things. Whispers, buzzing, corruption, a desire to wipe out everything - all very Onakke. We know Liliana brought the Chain Veil here, as she is the poster child for the second set. We also all know that no matter the purity of the those who run into its power, the Chain Veil can corrupt them with its dark mana. Look at poor Garruk, Apex Predator. Look at the countless angels Liliana has vaporized with its power. The only other plausible source of this madness is Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker.

It's a boring and not even that impressive. Just because it's one of the archetypal creature types doesn't mean it needs to be mythic.
The only logical post in all this.
