Just played today and got top 4. Didn't put a resto in yet. I lost against miracles. Went 3-1. Top 4 just split. But I beat goblin stompy
@monovfox 2-0 beating infect round 1. Didn't see a single swords to plowshares. Lol
I didn't realize that infect was an actually good matchup. Still. I think people should pack spellskite, it deals with that deck pretty well
just curious: has anyone else been half curious about Reveilark in the sideboard for grindy matchups? For the past year I have considered putting it into my sideboard, but then I don't. It's probably not any good, but it seems fantastic in matchups you bring cataclysm in for.
ALSO: PSSST. If you're having trouble against infect, there is a card called Spellskite that I have never seen before. It is probably terrible or something. But it hoses infect...and jitte effects... and removal. Oh wait, I already play one (and sometimes another in the sideboard). Try it friendos!
not sure if you guys saw Andrew Shrout's take on Death and taxes (splashing black for ONLY zealous persecutions, playset of spirit of the labyrinth) a couple weeks back
For a while I played a version of this deck with Delvers and tombstalkers with a landstill plan. It was quite effective, and it might be what you are looking for. I'll see if I can find my list.
1) Right meta (read: Tempo decks, stoneblade, miracles)
2) Decklist knowledge (of your's and your opponents)
3) TNN is a card
4) When legacy has so many options, why play DnT when you can play a storm deck? (I love storm, I could be a really good storm player.... if it wasn't expensive)
I can definitely see cutting down to 1 mangara, as the meta has sped up. Their results seem to say something about the necessity of mindcensor, and the number of mangara. We should look at future results at large tournaments with similar metagame to see if 1 mangara is decent or not.
What should I be looking for in terms of keepable hands? I have been having trouble with keeping and using good hands. It's very hard to look at a hand and go "this hand is awesome" when all it has are some mana dorks and an orzhov pontiff (which is pretty annoyingly common).
Hey guys! Played in my first tournament that I played in after a long break.
My list was the one I played at the SCG Open, but with a birthing Pod, bringing it up to 61 cards, and then 2 hushwing gryff in my sideboard. Gryff is bad, don't play it (I wanted it for the mirror and stoneblade, but honestly, you could have a card that actually does something instead. It wasn't that it shut off our deck, it just didn't shut off enough of their deck). The birthing pod was interesting tech, and good against grindy things, don't know if I would keep it, as it was useless sometimes. Playable against decks you want batterskull and mangara in order to win. Was fun, went 3-2 (lost to turn 1 doublestrike goblin thingy...twice, and to omni-tell, after I thought I had sideboarded, but it turns out I kept the cards I wanted to bring in inside of my sideboard. whoops.)
TL;DR : hushwing gryff crap, and remember to sideboard. I had an even more embarrassing blunder in vintage in which I forgot the stack existed. I could have won the next turn D: .
Karakas still has defensive applications against combo. still worth running 3-4 IMO (I currently run three, as I gave one away to a friend who needed money). 4 seems like a no-brainer unless you have a lot of lands in your neighborhood.
It also shored up the blue deck's matchups with fair decks, thus making everyone chose the following;
Play blue deck with TNN
or
Lose. (or rather, have slightly worse than a coinflip decision on whether you will win or not, against TNN decks)
