Vampire Envoy did a lot of work, tapping for various cohort effects and blocking really well. Also, Void Grafter was all kinds of unfair. Rendered Isolation Zones useless, ambushed various allies and held the ground while my squadron of sphinxes went swinging.
I assume they'll use lands that aren't too specific to a certain plane. Boseiju is a location on Kamigawa, so I'm quite sure it won't show up on Zendikar. A Wasteland can show up on any plane. Although I don't dare to imagine the price tag on an Expedition Wasteland ...
If you just want to train how the game works, grab Magic Duels on Steam and go punch the AI (or real players, if you're into making people suffer via the internet!). The deckbuilder assistant should give you some clues on deckbuilding. Also, find some experienced Magic players in your area - most love to teach a newcomer the ropes!
For my region (Switzerland): You can find most tournaments at www.swissmtg.ch. Swiss tournaments are on average pretty small: FNMs range between 10 and 20, GPTs and PPTQs between 10 and 30 players.
Word of advice: Switzerland is quite expensive, but you should have little problems communicating, as most Swiss Magic players are fluent in English.

You could spice up your all-instant decks with a variety of Flash creatures, like Yeva (instant Riku!), Bogardan Hellkite or Pearl Lake Ancient.
