Does anyone else find it weird that there is absolutely:
1) No mass removal. No DoJ, no ***, no Damnation, not even a bad one other than Mutilate, and even then it isn't mass removal. I think this might be the first set without one (core set)
2) The land cycle is a little worrisome. The tap lands weren't broken in any way, and something that you never had to invest in because people always had them. This means that we will have to invest in either new lands in Theros or using gates as if they were real lands.
I really hate gates. I don't even like when my lands come into play tapped, let along gates. Sigh. Knowing Wizards though this is exactly what they want. 1-1 creature removal and no good mana after magic christmas land for mana the past year or so.
Ok, since I am the only person who is realistic about this, this card is obviously Counterspell.
It fits into this set perfectly as one of the winningest cards in the first decade of MtG.
Lightning Bolt also fits into this.
.....
Then I got thinking, do they want the winningest cards of each of the 20 years of MtG or the 20 best cards. It can't be the latter.
Well if I remember right, Meditation was so broken one year it led to a complete rules change. Skullclamp seems like it also fits into that area.
Although I don't like the idea, there was no card more dominant than Delver for more than a year.
What could make that tricky, the whole dominant card of each year thing, is the introduction of other formats. I remember when there was type 1 and type 2, then extended, over-extended, and legacy, and modern, etc..
Would I love this to be an insane set that could be called Legacy Masters? Yes, but with an MSRP that is completely disregarded, it would be for only insanely rich EDH players.
So think mostly commons, uncommons, and maybe 1-3 rares? Something like that. Wizards doesn't care about the players, as long as FTV 20 is sold out, they are happy.
Wizards wouldn't want to include Thoughtseize in a core set with already a Scavenging Ooze promo, and a set based around Chandra, which is never a good thing. Hopefully like Ral, she involves more coin flipping.
They do need to release new cards that replace the replacements for Titans, like Thragtusk, but they would be creatures, not 1 mana discard spells.
Mutavault makes sense in Theros, with the pre-con being Monsters and Hero's or something.
But the last rare makes sense as Stillmoon Cavalier. It fits the numbers and letters.
But not including one of the most played cards in Magic in Modern Masters 1.0 is sad. It will be $120-140 when MM is out.
EDIT: Weird, also no mention of Wrench Mind or any other discard, which is great for a set like this.
Sadly unless there is a #99.5...
There is only 1 rare remaining in the set, and it's most likely Stillmoon Cavalier or something like that.
Everyone get ready for Modern Masters 2 with Thoughtseize as the main card. You guys are aware that Modern Masters will be a running thing for Wizards. They dont want to release everything now because why buy Modern Masters 2, 3, 4.....
There is no room for Thoughtseize, along with Mutavault, Noble Heirarch, Scapeshift, etc..
Overall unless the last rare in the set is Thoughtseize, I will be very angry about this. They released almost all the right cards, but the sheer Price of the Fetch Lands will skyrocket and the cost of Thoughtseize will skyrocket along with it.
Also, I have a suspicion your account may have been made as a troll attempt. It has 2 posts, one of which is this laughable quote, and the other being a blatantly rule-breaking thread on the Rumor Mill discussing who you think is the best guild for the Pre-release. However, I don't put any measure of stupidity past people these days, so I felt it was best to respond simply to be safe.
Nope sorry. I don't troll. I just usually don't have time to post, and I figured this would be an interesting card to bring up.
And yes I know Legacy. I couldn't go to Atlanta, but my sneak and show deck did very well even though it was played by one of my friends. I just get bored by legacy but this seems like a card that can be abused. I mean if you want to play the same meta game your entire life, that is up to you.
I am all for innovation, and this seems like a card where if you FOW, and it's Dazed or Forced, you can take cards off the stack and crack back for 5 on turn 2. Doesn't seem too bad.
I think this card makes people think about their plays before they just slam force on the table.
Now mind you I sold my legacy deck and am currently playing Belcher because it is just hilarious, but I love new cards entering the realm of possibilities. And I am not saying Abrupt Decay is a bad card, I am just saying it a rare in what Wizards is saying is going to be the most drafted/bought set they have ever had. So you have to think the market will be flooded with rares.
Now that isn't saying Lotleth Troll won't go up. It fits perfectly into the Zombie Deck that has very little from it rotating out of STD, and works well with cards in Modern like Gravecrawler and Bloodghast. Not to mention it is "Abrupt Decay-Proof" because it has regeneration.
GBW. Turn 2 Blood Artist, turn 3 Sorin (Make 1/1 Vampire), Turn 4 Bloodline Keeper, Turn 5 make a 2/2 Vamp token, Rootborn Defenses on the 2/2 token, flip Bloodline Keeper, swing for lethal with +2/+2 Vampires that are indestructible....
Or is that just my dream of finally building a standard Vampire deck without Zombies?
Ok, so everyone is getting excited about mechanics and such, and 90% of the planet is going to play Izzet.
But I really like Rakdos or BR or whatever you kids call it nowadays.
I mean you get to play with your insane pre-release creature, a 6/5 Akroma-lite, and you get access to common kill spells like the very underrated Auger Spree, and I am sure hand disruption/more kill spells plus burn will be widely available in both common, uncommon, and rare form.
I love Golgari, but I think that it is a much better constructed format than limited format, at least in sealed.
And the best part of all of this, the sole reason I like RTR.... NO MORE STUPID SCARS LANDS THAT ALWAYS COME INTO PLAY TAPPED WHEN I NEED THEM TO COME INTO PLAY UNTAPPED..... UGHHHHHH
Ok, I know I am a little outside the box when I say this, but I really think Nivmagus Elemental is the "Standard Tarmogoyf". Not to mention you now have 3 1-drops in the delver deck, with Elemental, Judges Elemental, and Delver, then your turn 2 play of Snapcaster or charm or whatnot, into Geist of Tramp Stamp, into Resto, and that is game.
I hate Delver, and everyone thought it would be dead when rotation occur's, but I think it just went from Tempo to straight up aggro with the ability to have a late game.
I mean in terms of Goyf, Goyf can be a 3/4 on turn 2. This can attack as a 5/6 turn 2 with Bird/Counter back-up. Seems like a card that should be, and will be broken.
I say this though without seeing approx. half the set, including commons. I am still thinking they will print a card that is considered non-broken in blue that has a draw or scry ability, like Serum Visions or Slight of Hand.
Oh and in terms of Modern or Legacy, this card is so god damn broken that pre-ordering them for $3 while everyone else is trying to figure out if this card is good is pretty insane. I don't buy cards, but this one was a must. I'll let everyone else overpay for Abrupt Decay at $15 while it's only a rare that has to go down in what Wizards is considering the most hyped and anticipated set ever.

You must admit this will be one of the best pre-releases in recent memory and people will put a lot of work into what guild they are picking.
I mean they all look good, I just wanted to give my opinion and see what other people think.
