...his massive ego and lack of true empathy that causes this. He believes to know Lilliana and that while she would obviously betray him the instance she thinks she can get away with it, she wouldn't risk her life for anything else. He thinks she would never put her life on the line (not unreasonably so, up until very recently Lilliana was always only interested in herself and often stated that she doesn't understand how someone could be stupid enough to sacrifice themselves for others, that's why she followed his commands in the first place instead of taking a stand right then and there).
In short: He thinks that Lilliana is as egocentric as he is, when in fact that's not entirely the case anymore (which is a characteristic of many sociopaths in the real world).
Let me guess. Jace will sacrifice his life for a "trap card". After Bolas kills most planewalkers, collects many sparks, and casts the Elder Spell, Jace will fuel his spell with those sparks to kill Bolas. Jace's plan depends on many planewalkers dying... you know, like Urza and the soulbombs.
Dumb question, probably answered elsewhere, but I can't find it.
What do they want to print in Modern Horizons that cannot be printed in the Commander Sets? Why a new separate set? And why not "Legacy Horizons" then?
The Mothership reported the winner of the Mythic Championship in a long report. The entire report avoided mentioning the gender of the winner... (but did leak out the gender of the 2nd place).
I read it twice. How did they do it so naturally? I want to be able to do it also. It is not easy in English.
I am not discussing whether this is good or bad. Politics stay out of this thread.
With some more thinking, I think the real problem with KCI is it creates a burst of mana in one turn. Skirk Prospector needs goblins only and Heritage Druid (lots of) elves only and both are still powerful.
If you add "You may activate this ability once per turn..." the card becomes pretty useless.
They said long TURNS, not long TIME. In a GP, when time is up, you get 5 turns. If the turns are too long you get logistics problems. Storm also has one long turn going off but it happens sooner. KCI can more easily afford to wait.
They set a precedent for banning cards due to time in legacy's Sensei's Divining Top but that's overall game time. This is quite different.
Rampage of the Clans seems sweet with Tireless Tracker. Kill opponent's artifacts and enchantments, then get more centaurs than the opponent because you have clue tokens.
This is a standard constructed card. Modern Jund has Maelstrom Pulse and instant speed cards are not that important for Jund. If instant speed is important, they have K-Command.
Lots of new Ravnica Allegiance (RNA) cards have been spoiled so far, and it's past time we get a discussion thread going. See our site spoilers here: https://www.mtgsalvation.com/spoilers/229-ravnica-allegiance. We also have some previews discussed on Reddit that have not yet made it to the spoilers. This includes Growth Spiral, the Simic instant-speed Explore, and the powerful new Human, Lavinia, Azorius Renegade.
Lavinia, Azorius RenegadeUW Legendary Creature - Human Soldier
Each opponent can't cost noncreature spells with converted mana cost greater than the number of lands that player controls.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, if no mana was spent to cast it, counter that spell.
2/2
Obviously a nice little boost to Humans a big middle finger to decks like Gx Tron. Excited to see where else the set takes us! What other cards are people looking forward to?
Big middle finger to the Sram/puresteel combo deck.
Nonbo with Rest In Peace. Also Nonbo with the new Lavinia. Doesn't do anything for humans.
I guess Devoted Druid decks when they combo off?
This still works with new Lavinia. Even if your opponents gos to cast a spell on your turn with CMC equal to the spell their casting they need and extra 1. Forcing your opponents to have to only do things on their turn while being able to still do things on their turn is a big tempo advantage.
On another note, with Afterlife being a mechanic expect a reprint of Phantom General in the set.
I mean the second ability of the new Lavinia is negated, since Tithe Taker forces the player to pay 1 mana for a 0 mana spell. This is important because it also means Lavinia cannot stop suspend spells.
Read Jace, Wielder of Mysteries again. No cards in library. Represents defeat.

I'm trying!
Combination of Massacre Wurm and Little Girl
Karn's Bastion goes in my infect deck.
Don't care if it is tap 5 lands for one infect counter. Giving that deck reach and inevitably is so scary.
