  • posted a message on Dismember and Persist
Did a search for persist and dismember, but didn't find anything. Have a hard time beieving no one has asked this before, but here goes.

If I Dismember a card with persist, say Kitchen Finks, will it stay in the graveyard? Do the -5/-5 effects on cards like dismember or -2/-2 on cards like Dead Weight affect Persist?

    Thank you.

The other banned thread, people were begging for blue decks with permission to be "viable"

Yeah... and the post you responded to was saying with BBE gone the meta will shift to control. So why was seething song banned? Reading comprehension?

No idea what you're trying to say here.

About people whining about Storm, if you think that Seething Song ban Killed storm, you don't know how to play storm. Yeah, you can't safely combo at Turn 3 anymore, but it's still possible to combo at T4-T5.
Not saying that it's a good thing, it weakened storm, but it still playable.

Bloodbraid Elf ban was quite obvius, with Deathrite Shaman Jund power skyrocket. They needed to ban something from jund.
BBE was chosen because she is almostly playable only on Jundm while DRS is a new and versatile card that can find home in many decks.

Have you even tried it? Go solitaire against nothing and see how often you get there. Try not to talk about **** you haven't even tested. At this point it's just scoop to any hand disruption or counterspell.

Edit: For those like this poster I responded to who don't know what they're talking about I'll explain why seething song ban has killed this deck. Before, the deck was able to be a little resilient to hand disruption and counterspells. Why? Because we had seething song. If they inquisitioned, thoughtseized, etc your pyretic ritual you could still get there with seething song. If they got rid of the seething song you could still get there by casting a seething song. If they countered your ritual with a spell snare you could get there with seething song. If they leaked your ritual chain at the right time you could still get there off a seething song PiF with goblin or another ritual.

The option to be able to seething song or ritual chain is no longer there, because hand disruption and counterspells now reset you entirely. You don't have the option to get there with a seething song, you have to get there with rituals. So if those get countered it's over. If they get removed from your hand, it's over. So what does this do? It means you have to sit tight and assemble your hand to be resilient to counterspells off of 8 total rituals in the deck. You need 4 for the PiF and 2 for the flashback to start another ritual chain from your gyard, so 6 total mana. That's 3 rituals, or if you manage to get 4 mana and splice onto another ritual it's only 2. Storm runs 16 lands because so much of the deck has to be dedicated to searching for those rituals and finishers already, do you know how often the deck can get to 4 mana (3 if you ritual, splice using the last mana to get there)? The answer is not very. So throw in more lands and make the deck even worse because those aren't spells that could even potentially count towards storm/will make Epic Experiment whiff more often (especially since we'll only be casting small storms from now on)?

Wizards didn't test this ban. They didn't consider that with BBE gone the format would see more blue and therefor would inhibit storm decks for that reason alone. If they did they would have seen this. No. Wizards didn't want storm to see play at all, and they banned it. They didn't like the deck. It wasn't overpowered, it wasn't too consistent, they just didn't like the way it played. I'd be okay with the ban reasoning if they had said that instead of trying to feed us this bull**** reasoning that only an idiot would go along with.

Maybe Storm starts using Lotus Bloom?

Doesn't add to the storm count at all and can't be flashed back. No.

Storm is dead. Netting one mana off rituals isn't enough to cast PiF and the ritual chain again. Netting one mana isn't enough to get a significant number of spells in an Epic Experiment (a card already limited as **** due to counterspells). With BBE gone there's going to be so many more decks running blue. Wizards isn't filled with idiots, they knew storm would be a lot less powerful in the format with BBE gone. They gave some nonsense excuse for the banning when anyone with half a brain can see they just wanted storm gone.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe a deck representing just 11% online and jack squat in real life tournaments needed to be crippled.

I'd have to disagree. Boros' Promo comes out and deals damage equal to the number of creatures. That's on at least turn 6 which if you happen to have a bunch of creatures out and you haven't won yet then something's wrong.

Dimir's Promo on the other hand comes out a turn earlier and can just simply get crazy big. God forbid you untap with it and a few 2 drops on turn 6. You can splash White for control or Green for Aggro.

I'm sure all that text above is just me being very bias but that's how I see it. Hopefully I'm not wrong and don't walk into the prerelease and get stomped.

I personally like the extort ability and would love to go Orzhov but I feel the promo is not as strong as the others unless you get some good targets for it. Instead of going Orzhov and crossing my fingers for the Ghost Council, I think it's more consistent to go Dimir and splash for Orzhov.

You misunderstand the point of the boros promo, which isn't surprising since I hated the card at first as well. Ever gotten your opponent low only to have them clog up the board and stabilize? This card allows an agro deck to get that final bit of reach to win.

Also, dimir is horrible. Awesome promo, though.

I'm confused about what's left to understand. They draw, reveal, miracle goes on stack, funeral charm, discard, can't miracle the card. I'm assuming it was his only card in hand since funeral charm isn't targeted.

Edit: Note that if they had drawn an instant they could have responded to the funeral charm for the regular cost, just not the miracle cost.

At first I was wondering if this guy was going to get in trouble for providing this since other people might do the same.

Here's my real question.. Why are there 4 Limited events on MTGO but all the paper events are constructed? (I honestly had to look this up because my first response was "bull PTQ's are Modern".

PTQs are modern right now. Limited has its own PTQ season.

I prefer that to a format dominated by decks packing counter, removal, counter, draw, counter, counter, removal, finisher.
We just need faeries back and maybe DRS banned.

I think the bigger problem in the deck is cascade from BBE triggering regardless of whether BBE is countered, not Deathrite Shaman. Had they worded cascade to trigger upon entering the battlefield it wouldn't be such a problem. As it stands, it's an imbalanced card and I'm not going to be surprised in the least if it's banned.

I don't care how many articles I read saying that the trigger rule is "necessary", it's just a piece of rubbish which doesn't serve any purpose other than letting someone win on "technicalities", annoying the experience of playing magic (I know I would definitely NOT stretch Jan Van's hand if I were Mark dictus) and being a horrible rule in general.

Agree. It was clear he indicated both triggers, and it was clear how he wanted them to go on the stack. Jan was just trying to get a favorable position by being a dick. Head judge made the correct decision.

isn't that a game loss then? if he did it wrong.

I don't know entirely. It's a very easily misunderstood interaction, and honestly I didn't know it worked like that so it's easy for me to see how it could be misunderstood.

Having said that, I can see the justification for a game loss. I think it's 99% going to just be a warning, though, since if it had been caught during the game I'm almost certain they would have just rolled back.

Extort seems very weak outside of multiplayer. It is very flavourful, though.

The fact that it discourages playing more than two colours could also hurt it in limited.

There are still many more cards with the mechanics to be spoiled, but so far, it seems like the weakest for both limited and constructed.

How does it discourage playing multicolor at all? It's off any spell...

4/4 for 6 cmc that's two colors, has no etb, requires attacking to activate, makes every spell you cast a potential cmc+1 pinger. Weak. It's going to make every card with the keyword overcosted.

I watched one event from that guy. His picks were mediocre, his play was pretty good, and when he lost he was a poor sport that complained about opponent luck when in fact his opponent just had a better deck.

Perhaps not representative, maybe he just had a bad day.

EDIT: Just went to his channel from your link and randomly watched some games. I didn't see the draft portion but again he got beaten and again he just complained about his luck and his opponent's luck and insulted his opponents' deck, etc. I wouldn't watch this person again if you paid me.

Just watched some of your youtube videos. Watching some of your picks made me shut it off :< Not sure I want to be taking your criticism on his stream to heart now.

I really like the LR guys, and I don't know what it is but I used to love watching Solebush but just watching him punt this week has been killing my heart. It's cringe worthy... I really like how he talks to the stream, though.

Yeah most streams are twitch, but some you can find recorded via Channel Fireball and other places.
