Mtgo is made to randomize 60 cards not 61. Its a glitch if you look at allot of winning decks they are using the 61 exploit.

Wut? At the dailies I only see 60-card decks honestly, so I don't know what is this glitch you are talking about.... OMG

Btw very interesting responses! I didn't know it was actually a relatively often discussed topic.
I still think that the key is the famous "land ratio", but as many of you have said you probably need some seriously deep deckbuilding and statistical knowledge. For my part I'll probably continue to test the 61 card version, but my slight perfectionism is telling me to cut it NAO to 60 Wink

Hi, you see I've been asking myself this question for the last day or so, and I really wanted some opinions/statistics.

I'm quite an old school Magic player and as many of you may know one of the first things that they drill into your head is that a competitive decks must always, always have 60 cards. It's obvious, if you have the least cards possible, you will always draw the "good" spells, and your deck will be much more consistant/predictable for you.

However for some reason the last day or so I was messing with my RUG Delver (Modern) on MTGO (a deck that has a in incredibly low mana curve and thus needs, generally, 21 lands). I've always played with 21 lands and it's been quite good, allthough you notice that on the long term you can get mana screwed a few times.

Anyways, I added another island without noticing it, probably a misclick. Then when I'm at the tournament practice room I notice something aberrant and that makes me feel ashamed of the magic player in myself (lol). I have 61 cards! What will the opponent think?? omg OMG (btw I'm not really serious but you get the point :D)

Thing is I'm quite forgetful and I end up all evening playing with my 61 card deck and every time noticing and saying DAMN I've gotta change it before next match! (and every time forgetting to do it)

I got quite a winning streak and of course this could be easily attributed to luck/better play/etc, but I did found my deck with more "flow" with land drops and such.

Now the obvious answer is to just play those 22 lands and 38 other cards, but my question is: what if the "perfect" mana ratio for this deck in particular is 22/61= 36.065% lands instead of 21/60=35.0% or 22/60=36.67%??

Could this be the case for other decks too? Honest answers here, I want as many statisitcal pr0s (which I suck at) here eh!! :p:p

    Cheers and happy gaming!

  • posted a message on Which color to choose with Iona against all top tier decks?
Hi, I sometimes use the Gifts -> Unburial + Iona combo and I wondered what the most experienced players here think is the best color to choose in each case and help me if any of the reasoning is not correct:

( don't know if this goes in Magic General, but anyways)

Jund: black, so they cant kill it, usually gg
    UR Storm: red, cant combo
Splinter Twin: blue, safer if they cant search while not being able to Pestermite?
RUG Delver: blue, to stall them down plus no Cryptic Command
WUR Delver: white, no Path to Exile
Angel Birthing Pod: no idea, maybe white so no Restoration Angel? But then they can Birthing Pod or Chord of Calling it... :S
    Second Sunrise: white, obvious
Merfolk: very tough, if you choose blue they can still Vial everything and some versions run Path to Exile!
    Death & Taxes: white
Esper Tokens: white but them being able to do black can be a problem
White lifegain, W Tokens, Soul Sisters: Red! Oh wait Wink
    Bant: white probably
    UW Control: white
Affinity: basically just a huge 7/7 body, but doesn't shut down anything... red probably?

And maybe I'm missing a few archetypes!

From what I've seen Iona shuts down -most- decks but for some of them it's definitely not over. White seems the safest color to choose almost always because of Path... hmmmm

So, what do you think?! Smile Smile

ps: I know that Elesh Norn is better at some times, but I wanted to discuss only Iona here!

were are everybody? no love for RUG?

Yeah I was wondering the same, I currently only play on MTGO so I'm eager to know what changes RtR has brought!!

Is Abrupt Decay as breaking as it seems against Delver? Maybe a few Redirects are worth a few SB slots now?

Is Izzet Charm as awesome and flexible as it seems? Maybe even Counterflux against storm?

    We want neeeeews!! Tongue

I remember playing you a few times. You entering the Dragon liars for it's secrets Grin

Haha yeah you know, better know your "enemies" right? Hah I think D&T is a really cool deck but I really wasn't used AT ALL to be completely mana denialed and beaten to death, usually its the opponent dying against a flying Wild Nacati while getting everything countered or bolted heheh ;))

    Cheers!! Tongue

Hi! can any of you Death & Taxes pros help me with some tactics against your deck? I'm playing a RUG Delver and, as usually, the thing that I like the most is that I can beat almost anyone, delver doesn't really have bad matchups... except this one, I think.

Maybe it's because I'm playing with a really skilled guy (AngelicExecution he's called I think), but most of my matches go like this:

    (on the draw)

He: land go (or a terrifying Vial)

    Me: crack fetch, delver, go

    He: leonin arbiter, go

Me: sitting with 2 useless fetchlands in hand, attack with delver, cant do anything else, go

He: ghost quarter, path my delver, go

Me: sitting with an uncracked useless fetch, with no threat and not even enough mana to leak anything, lol. Gets beaten to death.

I feel like if I don't inmediately burn the arbiter, or thalia, etc, it's an autolose, and then I always usually get owned by flickerwisp shenanigans or whatever

    Any advice? :p
