If you can pull it off, Sylvan Library interacts very well with Abundance. Guarantees 3 cards since the library is a replacement effect which replaces your draw. Since you have not actually drawn anything, the library won't pester you with paying 4 life points and you get to keep all three cards.
Well, this is quite disappointing. I enjoyed the deck for like 3 months. It was fun to go on a rampage with it but now? I guess I will transform it into an EDH Junk deck instead and drop Modern entirely. Farewell, fellow Pod players.
I am curious. How would this deck fare in a metagame where the biggest decks tend to be UR Delver, Infect, Burn and Faeries?
I am currently playing Melira/Angel Pod but I find that it is not my style of gameplay. I am currently searching for an alternative and Gr Tron seemed like a good alternative in the same price range...
Fellow Pod players, I have need of your help once again.
I have recently completed both Melira Pod and Angel Pod minus Noble Hiearch. Both are the classic lists. However, my meta is quite varied and I am not sure what to put in the sideboard. Toolbox decks have so many options! Here is a breakdown of my meta.
Burn
Infect
UWR Midrange
UR Delver
Ascendancy Storm
Goryo Reanimator
Death and Taxes
Affinity
Storm
Kiln Fiend
8 Racks
Merfolks
UW Tron
...and a bunch of random decks
The variety makes it difficult to build a decent sideboard but I am not even sure which version of the deck to play! Any insight is appreciated.
Deadbridge Chant: I like it for the reason stated. Works well as both recursion and fuel for Infernal Genesis. Sylvan Library: a very powerful card and it is being considered. Its use would probably replace Sensei's Divining Top in a deck with Doomwake Giant. Doomwake Giant: this card has potential but Pharika, God of Affliction puts the snake enchantment token under my opponent's control so I would have to exile my own creatures. Seems somewhat of a non-bo unless I turn this into a more enchantment-centric deck. Night of Souls' Betrayal: this with Creakwood Liege and it works. It is high on the list of things I am considering. Dross Harvester: this card could technically be extremely strong but also extremely risky. Minimal risk is a personal philosophy. Sangromancer: a stronger Blood Artist? This one needs a slot, for sure. Extractor Demon: this card I am strongly considering. Milling and exiling big juicy targets? Yes please! Tombstone Stairwell: this makes 2/2 zombies. I would have to have both enchantments for them to die upon entering the battlefield. Black Market: this would generate an insane amount of black mana and I considered it originally. I ended up cutting it because in my meta, lands (Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers) are much less prone to destruction. Foster: would indeed be a strong engine for card advantage but I am not always on the lookout for creatures. "Nonland" and that would have been fantastic. Last Laugh: pestilence effects are powerful but will also wipe out my key creatures. Dark Prophecy: Phyrexian Arena does something similar but does not risk getting out of control. If I lose either Blood Artist or Falkenrath noble while the engine is running, there is a chance I might end up killing myself.
Those are great suggestions but it brings up a question: should I got all-out attrition (kill creatures, drain for X, etc.) or favour the good stuff approach (Kokusho, Sheoldred, etc.) ?
This is a deck I recently came up with and played a few times. It deviates from my usual "power play" decks because I feel like EDH should be fun as opposed to winning as much as possible. I realized recently that I had lost that mindset and built something fun but that can also win. However, I find myself having issues against decks heavy on disruption.
Cards being considered Seed the Land: under the right circumstances, this becomes "Whenever a land comes into play, its controller loses 1 life." Necrogenesis: redundancy. Behaves like Pharika but is easier to use and only gives tokens to you. Night Soil: redundancy. Behaves like Pharika, is easier to use than Necrogenesis but requires two creatures in a single graveyard. Mycoloth: under the right circumstances, this could generate a whole lot of tokens to die during my upkeep. Verdant Force: one token per upkeep sounds like a good deal. Creakwood Liege: because sometimes everything else fails and beatdown plan needs to happen.
I am open to suggestions as to what to add and/or remove!
I've always had a thing for Pharika, God of Affliction since the card was released. Giving a bunch of 1/1 deathtouch snakes might seem like a terrible idea but in the proper environment, 1/1 deathtouch are insignificant compared to typical reanimation targets. Having a CMC of 3 is also fantastic. Obviously, at the head of a deck, Pharika becomes all the more dangerous. I like how flexible it is too. Need an emergency blocker or a simple "Ha! Got you!" kill? Pharika is the card for the job.
The general consensus seems to be fetchlands first so I suppose I will do that. Using Avacyn's Pilgrim instead of Noble Hierarch will feel super strange. All things in due time.
A Junk mana dude would be nice but I doubt that, even with the ability to create black mana, it would replace Noble Hierarch. 1 green to create bant + exalted is insane. Odds are, we'll trade exalted for more power and higher mana cost.
Fellow pod players, I have need of your opinion once again!
I still have to acquire Noble Hierarch x3 and the fetchlands but I am not sure which one to get first. Plenty of rumours of fetchland reprints and odds are Noble Hierarch will not be reprinted anytime soon.
Same goes for Voice of Resurgence and Archangel of Thune. I have no idea if they'll tank or rise post-rotation.
I did shenanigans with Pharika, God of Affliction, Illness in the Ranks and Blood Artist but it requires too many cards for something that's cute and inefficient. Still looking to break it.
