  • posted a message on Ideas for Scooping Rules in Events?
Scooping can cause kingmaking even without denying triggers. I have seen games where player A can kill player B or C but would die on the counter swing. If Either B or C concede, it would leave player A safe to win the game.

One particular example that comes to mind is a game in which I was dead to a mesmeric orb on my next turn. I reanimated my whole graveyard and gave everything haste with the intent of killing the mill player before I untap. While going through my triggers, the mill player conceded. I may or may not have been able to kill the remaining player had I been forced to send most of my attackers towards the mill player but as soon as he conceded, the game was mine. It definitely felt like the 3rd player had been robbed of an opportunity.

I don't have a strong opinion on whether the rules should allow tactical scooping, but it definitely feels like poor sportsmanship to concede in a multiplayer game unless someone went infinite.

I'm running Booster Tutor, Miss Demeanor, and Rocket-Powered Turbo Slug. A friend really likes Mise but I cut it since it needs a lot of support in order to do anything. Booster Tutor is cool and fun, but can feel like a chore and it's definitely really strong. The slug is the main reason I'm keeping un-cards in my cube. I think it plays well and it's been a pet card of mine.

Are you telling me that you've never been tempted to play Thieves' Auction with Phage the Untouchable?

I like lust for war a lot. I'll probably add edge of autumn as well. A few of those white cards were there to support strategies that I had dropped support for so I'd be happy to cut many of them. Children of Korlis needs to go. I thought Revoke Existence was an instant so that will definitely go as well. Chant of Vitu-ghazi was there to be a flashy expensive white spell but it really doesn't do much.

I had Loxodon Partisan to synergize with tokens. Do you have any suggestions for a replacement? Pretty much because I didn't know what else to do, I gave white a bit of KTK's +1/+1 counter theme. Abzan Battle Priest along with the other lords and Cenn's Tactician (also seemed fun with Juniper Order Ranger).

I assume the acolytes are too swingy. Pestilence is so string in pauper, I thought they might be good ways to handle (or support) pestilence and pyrohemia.

Wing Shards seemed like solid removal, no? Ethereal Haze is mainly still in the cube for Isochron Scepter.

Oathsworn Giant seems pretty meh. Spirit Link can double lifelink or can act as a pseudo-pacifism. I loved Righteous Aura in pauper EDH where it single handedly shut down voltron decks but it might not work so well in a 20 life format with a bunch of more aggressive decks. (also useless against pestilence-type cards.)

I saw from other threads that you dislike Coiling Oracle but I couldn't really tell why. If you don't reveal a land then its worse than Elvish Visionary but if you do hit a land, then it seems very good. I was also trying to support blink a bit but I worry it will be too durdly in general.

I don't mind the cube feeling a bit more like a normal draft. Are there other problems with this size? I worry that the cube will become boring if the same cards are in the pool every time. Other issues I foresee with a large cube are that some colors (white) might become weaker than others and that its harder to build around a particular card or 2.

I might cut the gold cards a bit. the problem is that I really like gold cards in some colors and would like to run more than I have now but in others I could easily cut a few. I estimate that cutting all gold cards would increase the number of playable for any 2-color deck by about 5% for what that's worth.

Thanks for your advice everyone! It's definitely helpful when starting out.

Hi, I put together a card list for a peasant cube over the past week or so and I was wondering if there is anything I should know about cubing or peasant cubes before I purchase all of the missing cards. Any comments or suggestions on my list would also be more than welcome. Here's a link to my cube on cubetutor: http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/25285 Thanks!

Make sure to run plenty of sac outlets so you don't reset counters if he gets bounced. varolz works as both a sac outlet and a source of +1/+1 counters

It looks solid and I'm used to 1v1 pdh, but do you have enough artifact creatures to get use of modular? Also, is the cycling from mage's guile worth it over Mizzium Skin or Veil of Secrecy? For fat stuff, Floodchaser and Opaline Bracers might work but they are kinda slow. If you want to abuse your commander a lot, more ramp is probably useful. Have you considered Sisay's Ring/Ur-Golem's Eye?

I wanted to build this deck a while ago but already have 2 mono-U decks. Let me know how it plays for you

I have a Spellheart Chimera deck and I eventually cut all (or almost all) of the Kilnfiend-type cards. I felt like I never cast enough instants or sorceries in one turn to make them worthwhile and I had enough control that my commander would eventually win the game for me. How have they worked for you? Also, not a fan of Mnemonic Wall/Archaeomancer?

Antler Skulkin can get you extra uses out of your commander, Whitemane Lion, Steel Leaf Paladin, Qasali Pridemage and others. The cards that could bounce themselves can do so and you can replay them with no -1/-1 counter too. Kor Skyfisher and Sun Clasp also bounce. Some populate cards might be nice. Rootborn Defenses, Druid's Deliverance, and Sundering Growth are all pretty good when they come with a 4/4. Rancor is too good to turn down in my opinion. Ivy Lane Denizen seems good with tokens. Looks like a good deck!

  • posted a message on The linearity index, how much room for innovation do I have?
Wouldn't another factor be if there are 2 different builds for the same commander? For example, if one commander could be either aggro or control, if 50% of the builds are of each type and they are all identical with no overlap between builds, each card would appear in 50% of the decklists even though the commander is 100% linear for a particular strategy. But perhaps the main info to gather from this is how many different strategies are available to a given commander rather than how much variety exists within a strategy. Just something to consider when analyzing this data

Genesis seems good. You can tutor it and him milling it just helps you. Then you can bring back anything he mills in the future. If you don't play 1v1, you can also try to be political and tutor things the Phenax player wants such as Acidic slime to deal with a 3rd player.

  • posted a message on What are the best anti-Gaddock Teeg strategies/cards?
Teeg players often don't expect any board wipes while Teeg is out so they may over extend. Toxic Deluge and Cyclonic Rift come to mind. Creatures are unaffected so Massacre Wurm or something could also hurt. I'd advise spot removal to just kill Teeg right before you untap so you can play whatever you want during your turn, but I assume he runs a bunch of ways to protect himself from that.

  • posted a message on [[Official]] General Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Banlist
A constant mana investment isn't an issue at all with infinite turns. I'll pay 10 for Isochron scepter with Mystical Tutor to get Beacon of Tomorrows with some extra card draw for infinite turns. Sure I spend all my mana on the combo, but I'll eventually draw more lands then use those to win. No one else will get another turn to disrupt me if they can't do it on the first loop.

Players should prepare for the worst and assume time magic will be imprinted so even if you wait till right before your turn to imprint, everyone still has 1 turn to kill the mirror or you. I think the issue with the card is that in meta's where people avoid combos, someone will still accidentally do something to strong for other players to deal with since the mirror just seems like a goodstuff card at first glance. In competitive metas, I wouldn't expect someone to ever have an upkeep with mirror in play.

I don't really have a strong opinion if it stays on the banlist or not though. I'd probably use it for infinite turns if it were legal.

  • posted a message on Spellwild Ouphe, where everything's pretty cheap
fyi: Oblivion Ring doesn't target anything when it's on the stack so it actually won't be cheaper. Still, I think you're right that your commander will be a removal magnet (especially if your opponents learn that you are easily hitting that hard).

Jolrael's Favor is another instant speed trick that might keep your commander alive. Rancor won't be cheaper, but its such a good card. You won't regret running it.

    Definitely an interesting commander though
