Pack rat has also been really good for me as people are playing more decks that try to trade one for one with us. I just got my Blood Barons and am looking forward to testing them. I'm not sure what to cut yet though. I've gone up to 3 Sorin, Solemn Visitor so I may have to reduce them to not overload on 4 drops.
I know we don't have a ton of room for utility lands, but have the merits of Vault of the Archangel vs. Gavony Township already been discussed? I feel like almost every argument I make for one, could be made for the other. IE makes your lingering souls better, lets you grind better, helps in the mirror, etc. Just looking for other people's thoughts.
Congratulations! That's a great result. I always love getting your encouraging reports. I don't know about the rest of you, but I take a lot of crap for playing Fae and there is nothing more satisfying than watching the Junk or Twin player beat to death with Faerie tokens or a well timed Clique. Looking forward to the follow up.
There have been plenty of good builds with obliterator. He definitely warps your mana base, but as you said, without a double white requirement from something like Brimaz he becomes much more castable. In my opinion he is much better in a meta with damage based removal. So if you have a lot of path in your meta he might not be worth it.
@jdm_s2k I personally don't run any now that we have access to Polluted Delta. While River of Tears usually gives you the color mana you want I didn't want to rely on it.
I can't speak to how good the deck is without trying it, but it certainly looks consistent with all of the 4 ofs. The lack of spot removal in the mainboard is concerning and I think it would struggle in the current meta with all the burn running around.
As for scions, plenty of people use them, but it's a matter of meta game and play style. I was running 3 mainboard for a bit, but am going down to 1 to try Vendilion Clique in the main.
Your decklist looks fine. I would just encourage you to be patient. The reason BG/x decks are so good is because we have very few "bad" matchups. With that being said, we have very few "easy" matchups as well. This deck will reward you for knowing it, as well as your meta, and the modern meta in general. Keep grinding and the wins will start to come together for you
http://turnonethoughtseize.libsyn.com/ The podcast is about brewing, but starts off with talk of Faeries, because most brews are standard ports being reworked to exist in modern. There was a comment where the deck wont pass tier 2, which currently I agree with circumstantially; but I'm really concerned with perspective of the lists they are referencing; maybe that's just a bias, but I generally believe the core system really works.
It's really sad actually, that a deck like Esper Control (which hardly accomplished anything) is highlighted for the good cards in there, while faeries are never regarded in any positive sense. I mean, UB Faeries still accomplishes things, be it small ones. It can never be tier 1 due to its weakness against random aggro decks.
I get the feeling that these people copy-cat internet speech, rather than really coming up with a real opinion. I mean, we have seen UB Faeries on camera in a pro tour recently and it top 8'ed a SCGI event too. In the PPTQ season, I have seen faeries in the top two times now. We are present at the top tables at least!
I think we are all share this sentiment with you. I can't tell you how many times people ask me what I play in modern just to be followed up with "Faeries? Isn't that deck really bad?" It just highlights a pervasive problem among magic players, which is that many of them just like to repeat the thoughts of others without formulating their own, Faeries is a very good deck. It's also a really fun deck. The other side to that is that it is a very difficult deck to pilot and severely punishes misplays. Because of that, I think most people would rather just write it off as a bad deck rather than admit that they didn't put enough time into learning to pilot it correctly.
I understand there is a tension between Lili and Rat, but I have never felt like it's that bad. They both want us to operate with no cards in our hand. Active Rat just lets us turn those discards into more Rats before we plus Lili. With that being said, I am curious about your results as I've never tried to run the list without her.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to try dropping two scion for two Vendilion and see how it feels. Only one way to truly understand a card right?
Would you suggest learning the archetype with any particular build?
Thanks
