Speaking of the pt rock lists, has anyone seen the 3x golgari aggro lists? They seem like super fun, playing with scooze, lotleth and varolz. Below is richard bland's list, all three are very similar with the same core composition.
I know they aren't strictly "The Rock control" but its another path to explore in the same colours.
Rnd 1 beat RUG midrange 2-0
Rnd 2 lost to Junk midrange 2-1 (all 3 games were close. i feel this is our worst matchup)
Rnd 3 beat Esper control 2-0
Rnd 4 beat Junk midrange 2-1
Rnd 5 lost to Naya midrange 2-0 (mulled into suboptimal hands)
Rnd 6 beat RG monsters 2-0
Rnd 7 lost to Mono red 2-0 (punted g1 and flooded out g2...this is where i realized unflincing courage is better than centaur healer)
Rnd 8 beat RG aggro 2-0
Deck was solid all day. I wouldnt change anything except centaur healers out and courages in
Against the RG ooponent shadowborn demon hit play about 11 times and killed dragons, hydras, world eaters and the like. He was by far the best card all day long.
Well done i think 5-3 at states is very respectable. Would it be a straight swap of 4 centaurs for 4 courages in the sb? Id also consider a few copies (3?) of golgari charm for the mono blue matchup as it wrecks them. Im still looking to get all the pieces for this deck before game day (you going down hydra!).
Did you have any issues milling your whip? Ive found in testing that using grisly is a bit risky/going into man mode. Again good work at states, keep up the good work.
Daniel ball remained undefeated at gp Brisbane this weekend with a reanimator list. He didn't make top 16 but its still a great effort. Points of note:
this was the all in version, not ooze.
He played a single copy of Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur and Simian Spirit Guide in the mb and two copies of gigadrowse.
I'd assume it's because it doubles as a kill condition if you're at a higher life than your opponent, and you can kill x/3s and up.
Hmmmm swing for 7, then ping them with your remaining mana seems fine. Im thinking of putting this together to play at my lgs, so ill test the demon out i suppose.
Against aggro i feel Elesh would be better but thats based on my experience playing legacy where she sticks around afterwards. Then again pyroclasm is a perfectly good card in modern.
Hes no griselbrand but now that he has haste thanks to the whip, he hits for 7, gains 7 and potentially gets your something tasty (considering your opponent might be scrying for decent beaters also)

[QUOTE=mootown2;/comments/12301039]obviously we'll have even more results later today thanks to SCG Worcester, but here are some fairly interesting local results from a Grand Prix Trial for Louisville
Unfortunate that you guys couldnt get day 2, however by the look of top 8 it was an ooze heavy tournament. 5/8 md'd it, the other 3 were affinity, mili pod and ajani jund with a single ooze in the sb.
I just saw the weirdest ramp deck in a daily. Birds, Noble Hierarch, Lotus Cobra, Nest Invader, Summoner's Trap, Through the Breach, Primeval Titan, lots of hideaway lands, manlands, and Emrakul. He had white in there, but the only thing I saw that he could need it for was activating Windbrisk Heights. Crushed me game one, he mulliganed to 2 game 2, then I crushed him game 3, he ended the game with no lands in play, but still an interesting deck overall.
Firstly, regarding the Faerie Macabre/ jund charm stuff, i forget who it was ( maybe pope or wyvern?) stated pages ago that they have a whole section of potential sb and flexi mb cards so they scout the room before an event to get an idea and then plan accordingly. Both have there + and - it really depends on the meta your facing i suppose.
Also, please dont be hesitant to post long responses/ posts. We all want to improve the deck and in-depth, thought provoking discussion is key to this. I doubt anyone would disagree/ doesnt enjoy reading this type of response
My main problem with the gods spoiled thus far is twofold: first, how often will it be better to just go for the Living End? Second, we're pretty low on flex spots. It's all fine and dandy to think about including cards, it's removing stuff that's difficult >_<
As for Thoughtseize, its CMC is less than 3.
Yeah exactly my thinking re the gods, they dont seem to overly enhance our gameplan to much.
Damn it, i forgot the golden rule. My comment was bad and i feel bad
Im still undecided on the gods. Just because a card look good doesnt mean it will fit with our strategy. Having said that, the red god looks the best so far. On the subject of theros cards, has anyone tried thoughtseize in the sideboard against control?
Im sure it's been tried but now that i can afford a playset (thank god!) its worth asking.

Just to grab zombie infestation but yeah i agree with your points about grisly.
I suppose that's another consideration, the cards definitely growing on me.
For people running infestation, would you consider commune with the gods instead of grisly salvage?

Seems like it works

Regarding the wierd ramp deck, i found this tasty number by todd anderson. http://sales.starcitygames.com/deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=44517
Its only a test deck but it seems like the ticket.
Thats pretty badass can we pop this in the primer?
