An important "trick" that some people don't seem to be aware of is holding priority after using the relic.
Say you are playing Relic in your common RG-Tron deck. You have both Relic of Progenitus and Oblivion Stone on the battlefield, if you are forced to use the Oblivion Stone and don't feel like exploding the relic, you can activate the relic and hold priority and then use the stone. That way the graveyard will be empty, instead of filled up by the things that got destroyed by Oblivion Stone.
It really is an important thing to know, at least in some matches.
It excelled at exploding Planeswalkers and Tarmogoyfs that had grown huge.
You know those games where you stick a Karn, but it's just not quite enough? It closed the deal.
Destroying Stony Silence with it felt terrible, I would much rather just have Nature's Claim.
Also got to save a Wurmcoil Engine from Path to Exile, and swing for 9, understandable that my opponent did not play around such an uncommon spell.
Surprising a Dark Confidant attacking was also pretty cool.
Having the Green Mana available, was actually a slight issue.
However the times I really needed beast within, I found myself having green lands. Just natural when stumbling in the T3-Tron plan.
(But, that should never be the goal of a game-plan).
Yeah, the Keyword being "Permanent" is pretty neat. I think I'm going to play some games maining 3/4 Beast Within, as an experiment.
It's hard to think of a case where it isn't at least slightly useful. Firespout being less dead game 1, against creature-less decks also neat.
Maining it, I immagine I'll get to exploit on people getting unlucky with their lands, even.
I don't know what to cut, it kinds of share the same purpose as Oblivion Stone... But, Beast Within and O-stone got too great of a synergy, to not play together.
I have been running Slaughter Games for a while, (because I'm stupid, it's not really good).
Using 2 Forest, but only 1 Ghost Quarter and a Llanowar wastes, not having the Second Ghost Quarter is a huge issue. Llanowar wastes has been useful as a green source, maybe 1 time, in hundreds of games.
However it gives you a "free win" -almost, against Scapeshift, Storm, Ad Nauseum and some other uncommon decks.
Scapeshift seems to be the only real threat among those, also it's strong in the mirror match.
I've tried to bring in Slaughter Games against twin, but that's a foolish endeavor.
I would like to run Beast Within, it's good against so much hate that people pack. Exploding your own land to fizzle Sowing Salts, another removal for Stony Silence etc.
It gets even better if you run Firespout, at least I would thing so, You probably don't target yourself that often.
The sheer utility of the card is surprising; exploding a Chromatic Star to make a blocker for Snapcaster beat-downs.
I can also imagine it being good against Zoo, sometimes they may not be able to play around a land getting Beasted away, losing some damage while at the same time being put off Boros Charm and set up for a huge Firespout next turn.
While talking about sideboards: Combust is just amazing, always. I wish, playing 4 was possible.
Wouldn't Stymied hopes be just like Syncopate X = 1, but worse?
There must be better counterspells, if you need the 5th condescend.
I guess Swan Song is neat, but I would rather use negate in this deck.
Yeah, keep in mind some combo decks gets wrecked by enchantments like Rest in Peace, Ghostly Prison, Suppression Field, Rule of Law and those narrow sideboard kind of effects. Also Thought Seize and Inquisition of Kozilek are at sorc speed, so there is that.
Splinter Twin may run as much as 3 Dispel mainboard.
If you are going to win by infinity-combo pretty soon, you may not care about the bird.
Guess it preforms poorly if you are trying to stay alive against agro, though.
And there is really few thing it counters that dispel does not, however there is definitely some.
I don't hate them, they feel kind of elegant.
Curious to how all this scrying for 1 will work out. Unless you are desperate, how bad does a card need to be for you to put it at the bottom?
Also glad that you don't have them at uncommon. They would just flood limited that is not designed with heavy multicolor in mind.
However I'm sad these lands is pretty much a no-no in modern.
Well, I got several decks/staples already.
Guess I was lucky to jump on the modern wagon early.
High prices is probably a really bad barrier for people that want to try out the format.
However, the prices rising may point to an increase in Moderns popularity, which is great news. Even if it's indirectly, because of speculators and such.
I agree, they should play out very differently.
However, they do share a lot of cards. I plan to stock up on Knight of the Reliquary, swapping between decks is fun. And Dmitriys list seems like a solid deck.
Quirion Dryad as a replacement Goyf is entirely doable, but maybe vinelasher kudzu would work better? The knight synergy is definitively there.
Heh, secret Negate tech sure to catch a lot of people off-guard. Yavimaya Coast is probably the best land for such splashing, however it irks me how much better Grove of the Burnwillows is than any other 2-color land.
My local store handed me 4 of the steam promos, when I asked if they where for sale. "Just have them for free", neat.
Guess Ooze will be real easy to pick up if you want it in foil.
Now, I got my set. Hoping ooze will make it big in modern.
Although I can't see the commander-Ooze drop any more in price(bellow 10), I would assume the promos adds to the supply, however; I got no idea as to the extent.
I feel the price should be the same as Deathrite Shaman, seems comparable. (sort of)
I'm kind of sad the Titan-less version won. Now I feel kind of bad, insisting on playing my big dumb 6/6's
