are you somewhat new to modern (6 months or something like that)? there are several modern deck that while dont have high finish lately (i believe) are great decks (ot at least could easily take a FNM if no one expect):

    - Living End: The Graveyard deck that is the most strong against hate
    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-living-end-46496#paper

-Martyr Proc: Mono W Control, this is a deck that truly shines when the pilot know the meta (well like almost all control decks XD)
    https://www.channelfireball.com/articles/martyr-proc/

    - UBw mill: if you dont like having friend
    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-u-b-mill-45377#paper

    - Taking turns: same as above :p
    https://www.channelfireball.com/videos/taking-turns-modern-channel-lsv/

    - GB death cloud: i had the honor of being beated by reid duke with this deck online
    https://www.channelfireball.com/articles/deck-of-the-day-death-cloud-modern/

    - grishoalbrand: IMHO the most powerful combo in modern.
    https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/established-modern/combo/599726-grishoalbrand-griselbrand-reanimator

    - Jeskai Ascendency: In theory probe ban kill the deck...

What are some “under the radar” decks that can win a FNM? Something that may not be super popular so when I play it, people are caught off guard. I was looking into Skred Red since I don’t see it too much. Can that deck win a FNM? What other options are there?

Preferably, decks that don’t include $100 cards like Tarmogoyf, Liliana, Hierach, Canopies, etc.

Bogles. But it does have Horizon Canopy and Leyline of Sanctity. But that said, those should be your upgrade paths. If not, you can try Aristocrats or Elves.

all tier 3 deck can win a GP in modern given a favourable meta ( https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/gpdfw16), in fact i think that in some competitives FNM is harder to win with a tier 3 deck (because some are easy to hate out out of SB)

you could check https://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/modern/full#paper for ideas within your budget, Ad nauseam is a great combo deck that dont rely on creatures that could perfectly win next GP (and i could say the same for at least 5 more decks).

Are you looking for combo/aggro/control? that information is useful to narrow down what dck could you like.

    Recommendations staying with blue:
well grixis deathshadow (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-grixis-death-s-shadow-46465#paper) is like a jund with combo lines (involving temur battle rage), and you can re use most of your U base.

for more combo deck you have Storm (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-u-r-gifts-storn#paper)and Ad Nauseum (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-ad-nauseam-46472#paper) if you like using blue

And if you love blue and linear...good old fish (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-merfolk-46429#paper) is always an option.

Guys, i always love the "silver bullets" deck (years ago, i had a mono blue control with treasure mage to search things like divning top, pithing or enginereed explosives) and want to know if exists some silver bullet deck in modern and how it works.

    Thanks!

    well you have 3 options:
    Company deck https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-counters-company-46441#paper
Aggro/Combo deck, use the toolbox mainly in post board games to shut down opponent plans, but first they want to use the search (chord) to pick up combo pieces.
    UR Prison https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-u-r-prison-46396#paper
prison deck, like company, use Whir of Invention to search combo pieces, but have some hate options (Witchbane Orb for burn/discard, etc)
And somewhat similiar to your U deck, you have mono U tron https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-u-46461#paper, that use both trinklet and treasure mage.

    8 wack goblins is awesome

and competitive, this is your best choice for a competitive deck under 200

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-r-48563#paper

another suggestion could be Death & taxes

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-eldrazi-and-taxes-46455#paper
(remove the eldrazi temple ,horizon canopy and surgical extraction and you have something along $ 2XX )

You have never heard of Daw blade???? Neither have I....

Like FoodChainGoblins said, there is not Caw blade alike right now, closest thing is UW control.

Other decks that are not full combo and dont rely on attacking to win (but they could have some creatures that attack):
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-scapeshift-46457#paper : good old ramp, you attack, but win condition is valakut.
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-scapeshift-46437#paper : same as above, but with some control in U!
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-lantern-control-46419#paper : best prison deck in modern
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-jeskai-breach-46481#paper: while the deck name is combo, is one of the most versatile deck around (like caw blade?) you can free win with blood moon, win with combo, fateseal with Jace while controling, or the control mirror "bolt snap bolt snap beatdown"

look at the U scapeshift or U breach decks, i think you will want to try one Wink

Hi guys! Im always find joy playing different kind of decks (Im actually playing ad nausea and Blue living end [with low luck]) and looking to move to a different kind of deck. I have 3 in mind:
    Dredge: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-dredge-46484#paper
    BR Midrange: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-br-46527#paper
Burn (I love Bomat Courier): https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1007802#paper

I know that dredge is not in his top competitive level, so i want to ask you, what is the """""best""""" deck between this 3? In matter of what seems like is best positioned in the actual meta.
    Thanks!

Dredge!, humans is the deck to beat so expect a lot of lightning bolt/fatal push in the format (jund/junk/grixis/jeskai/etc). Graveyard hate is "low" right now for the same reason.
And dredge is competitive, not tier 1, but in modern even a tier 3 deck can win a GP.

I prefer Runded Halo as it is more versatile. It's very nice versus Bogles, Valakut, Dredge and so much more.

This. Meddling Mage is terrible in this deck because it dies to easily and isn't really much of a threat. Now if Vendilion Clique and Meddling Mage are your only options, I'm taking Clique all the way. Clique does more for you. Yea you can't shut down their combo but it gives you the information about what to play around, gives you a bigger clock, and is a much better blocker if needed.

is a great card for game 2 and game 3 where opponent SB out some removal (assuming you play few creatures main)

Except Runed Halo won't get hit by that removal anyways unless its Abrupt Decay somehow. =D

I get that Mage attacks, but Halo's just much broader and more resiliant.

True, but halo wont prevent a Jace from Brainstorming, or a liliana from discard /etc...

I like both and play 1 of each by the way.

You could easily make Modern Challenge deck of the following

    Storm
    Boggles
    Dredge
    Burn

Just remove the expensive manabase, replace $$$ non core expensive cards with cheaper options, add only 1x of some key $ cards (gifts ungiven/kor spiritdancer/bloodghast/goblin guide) and add tutors/worst substitutes for this cards.

I think of those listed, the best 2 are
    1. Storm
    2. RG Eldrazi

Everything else is going to take a dip in winning. I played Cheerios before and it did well. I'm not sure how well it will do when interacted with though. Mono White Humans just seems like extreme Aggro and that definitely has holes in it, like you probably saw from Mono Green Stompy. I'm not sure what Illusions is, but if it's the 2/2 Bear, 5/5 Dragon, the Lord, etc., then it is 100% worse than Spirits. I'm not sure why you didn't like this play style, but this deck can be very powerful. Watch Caleb Durward play Bant Spirits. So, I think the choice lies with one of the top 2 in my opinion.

Here's a question for you...do you want to play Aggro/Midrange or All in Combo?

P.S. - Blue Green Merfolk is not quite as clunky as the Mono Blue version. You may want to try that one.

My style is fast. Whether it’s drawing a ton of cards, playing a lot of value, or flooding the board fast. Anything that doesn’t do that makes me sleepy.
RG Eldrazi interests me because of BBE and Ancient Stirrings since they add speed. If money wasn’t an issue, I’d be running Affinity as it’s a crazy fast deck, but sadly the deck got super expensive. Are there any other decks out there I may like? What are some other fast explosive decks. Or decks that “go off”.

i dont think neither RG eldrazi nor storm is "explosive" (well both have explosive starts, but not affinity level).

    https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/gppho18/grand-prix-phoenix-top-32-decklists-2018-03-18

look at dredge and elves, both are "dump hand" deck IMHO.

Hello everyone! I´m in search for a deck to play in Modern!! Since I´m actually on UW Control and even though I love it, I´m trying to find another deck that matches with me and how I enjoy playing Magic. As you can see, I like playing control but I also feel really confortable playing tempo decks (I play all kind of Delver decks mainly in Pauper). So, with that in mind, I´m loocking to find 2 kind of decks:

I´m loocking for a more proactive rather than reactive style of control deck (I love to play with information of my opps hand so I would like something with a good amount of discard. IE: IoK, Thoughtseize and Collective Brutality) or, for a more tempo oriented and/or tempo-control deck, maybe using Delver, Piromancer, discard or something like that.

In terms of cards pool I own a good amount of the Modern staples and don´t mind to invest in the pieces I miss in order to make a deck I really enjoy!

So, if you have any ideas or sugestions, It would be great for me in order to acknowledge those types of decks that fits me and get me on track to find what I´m loocking for!!

why not grixis deathshadow or mardu pyromancer?

    4 Fatal Push
    1 Dismember
    1 Terminate
    2 Serum Visions
    4 Lingering Souls
    1 Falkenrath Aristocrat

I have some various other stuff, but those are probably the most relevant of what I have in my collection.

    Colors you like to play:
I'm open to playing all of the colors, its more certain styles within the colors that I'm not a fan of. I enjoy having access to multiple colors in a deck.

Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue):
I tend to prefer more grindy decks. Midrange and Control are what I usually play. I don't really like combo (I might be able to get behind something like Abzan Company, but I won't touch storm with a 10 ft pole). I suppose you could say I like fair, interactive decks with plenty of choices. I like decks that are consistent, and have a fighting shot against most decks.

I have a decent BW tokens list, but have found it lack luster. The deck grinds well (I don't think I've ever lost a match to Jund), but I always feel like my combo match-up is terrible. It feels like my discard isn't enough because it still takes forever to kill them, so they can naturally draw out of it. In addition, just from a fun prospective, I haven't been too into it.

I have tested a few decks in modern (proxies are great), and find that I do like BGx decks, however, I just can't shell out enough for Goyf/LoTV and the decks seem not to function very well without both together. I have played a few matches with UW control, and found that enjoyable as well. I tried out the BG Deathcloud deck (Saffron Olive Version/an older Rock style deck), but it felt like it had the same issues with combo (discard is good, but it takes so long to get things going that storm/company can just turn 4 me every game.

I really enjoyed the BG Delirium deck in standard (tool box type with tutor targets), but that seems a bit slow for modern. In addition, I play UB teachings in pauper, but teachings also seems pretty slow. Basically, I like my value. I am willing to sacrifice some value for the ability to have a chance against the diverse field of modern.

    Budget you have:
I could spend $200-$300 dollars currently. I am willing to invest more into the deck over time though, so being able to upgrade the deck is pretty important for me. I would also, if possible, attempt to prefer future possible bans.

Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq):
Mostly FNM and regular REL tournaments. I may play in the the occasional PPTQ in the area. I would like the deck to be moderately competitive, as most people playing modern here for FNM, or the weekday tournaments, will be playing real decks.

i really thing the best deck for you is BW eldrazi, you already have a lot of the deck because of BW tokens, and its really play as a GBx deck (think like a junk deck that change green for colorless)

look at the following decklists and see what do you think would like more:

Hey there! returning player with basically no cards outside some ixalan stuff I drafted at my LGS, really looking to get into modern since thats the only format my LGS is doing for constructed. I might have a few WWK manlands and some m10 checklands, if thats helpful.

Im pretty open about color combos, I guess the only one I really dislike it u\g, the rest im pretty cool with.

prefer to play aggro or tempo (goodstuff) decks, i enjoy damage rather then countering or comboing out.

My budget is around 100$, but if the deck is sweet i can bump it to 150.

pretty much looking to have a good time at the modern FNM tournies, while keeping an option to upgrading the deck slowly to ptq level.

thanks and have a great day!

thats a pretty limited budget, i would say red deck wins is your only option:

you could look at saffronolive other budget decks, but i think RDW is the only competitive
