I know that a lot of players from my area who are heading up are using different flavors of control decks (Grixis, Gifts, Thopter Control). Any suggestions on changes to the main or side for the event? It is my plan to write a tournament report once back.
We started playing this at my local meta however the only other person that played was playing birthing pod rather than chord toolbox.
I tested out UR delver and it sucked. Even with ponders/preordains/mental misstep, it couldn't beat down consistently. I scrapped it.
Against that pod deck I used merfolks mimicking legacy with mental misstep and disrupting shoal;
game 1, I lost to the combo
game 2, I overwhelmed quickly 8 9/9s
game 3, I lost to finks lifegain and I didn't have spreading seas to close the deal so he chumped all day...
This makes me sad to hear, I was so certain that it would be a blast to play! I would have thought that all of those cheap/free spells and Treasure Cruise would be phenomenal!
**THIS THREAD IS NOT TO DISCUSS WHAT SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT BE BANNED IN MODERN! SAVE THAT FOR THIS THREAD.**
In my local area the topic of a "Modern tournament without the ban list" is being discussed. If you had the opportunity to play in this, what would you play?
I haven't been enjoying my Naya Company very much lately but I wanted to keep playing my Wild Nacatls. As such, I put this deck together and brought it to my weekly LGS Modern night.
Blue Moon- (2-1) :: Didn't get hurt badly by Blood Moon in any of these games. This should have been over in two games but in the second, when I had him on the ropes I had 3 dead draws (two turn draws and one Remand) and it was enough to let him stabilize.
Jund- (2-0) :: Mulligan to 6 both games, one due to no lands in my opener or and the second due to having one one Island and a hand full of green and red cards.
Jund Dredge- (2-1) :: Game 2 against Dredge and Game 1 again Gifts were certainly the most grindy games of the night. The second game against dredge was eventually lost to them being able to recur enough threats into the late game and run me out of resources.
UW Gifts Tron- (2-1) :: Game 1 went for 25 minutes where I eventually lost to a Mindslaver lock. I didn't have enough permission late game to stop it from landing.
My local meta seems to have evolved into many different control decks and Jund. Any suggestions to tweaks I could have to my 75 to work out better in that meta?
Haven't played this deck since the Treasure Cruise banning, I missed how fun it was to play.
I have a Modern event I'm going to this weekend and this is what I'm about to sleeve up. Anyone have input? Also I'm new to the archetype. What are typical sideboard swaps?
My one comment is that I could see you having mana issues. I'm all about playing a low land count in order to have the most live draws in Small Zoo but when you have 20 possible mana sourcs and 6 aren't usable turn one, seems like you'd be running into issues of not being able to play anything turn one (as only 14 of them can be used turn one). That turn one play is crucial to a deck like this.
I would change out some number of your Windbrisk Heights or Dryad Arbor into something that can be tapped on the first turn that you play it.
Won 4-0 my local tourney with Naya Knightfall. Negate was an absolute all star, allowing me to beat burn twice. Didnt drop geist willingly, maybe it is better against Jund, abzan and the sorts. I was able to combo twice, but I prefered not doind it, as the games were fairly on my side with just the beatdown plan.
Beat 2-0 infect, 2-0 UB mill (he was sort of a new player so it was a free win), 2-1 burn and 2-0 burn.
Forgive me if I missed it, but I dug back in your posts to try and find your list but I couldn't find it.
Hey Lantern,
I was looking through CFB's articles and saw you get called out in the comments section of Travis Woo's "Knightfall" article. Was awesome to see a community member from here mentioned.
Any specific sideboard plans that you have for playing against it?
Edit: Adding more.

I would hope nobody would play Eggs, I'd rather lose to anything else.
It would basically be like playing Legacy Jund but with more painful mana.
This makes me sad to hear, I was so certain that it would be a blast to play! I would have thought that all of those cheap/free spells and Treasure Cruise would be phenomenal!
I've heard that in these tournaments Clamp-Affinity is usually a force to be reckoned with.
Turn 1 Blood Moons? That makes me feel sick in a format without Force of Will.

Haven't played this deck since the Treasure Cruise banning, I missed how fun it was to play.
Eldrazi seems to have left mine, now it's all Burn, Control and Jund.
Hope people stop playing it at your stores!
I couldn't believe it.
Didn't nicely set down is creature on the table, just sorta lightly tossed it. Flicking it off into the graveyard.
I agree it wouldn't be fun to lose but at least put on a "pro" level body language.
That seems much beter

Sideboard question for you. In what combinations would you be bring in the 3x Blood Moon and 3x Stony Silence for these matches?
- Affinity
- B(x) Eldrazi
- Heartless Eldrazi
It's Christmas!
Welcome!!

Mind sharing?
