There is going to be a Legacy tournament (not official, decks can be entirely made of proxies) and i want to play this (LGSI variation) Now, question: Has anyone tried Null Profusion? Does actually do something? And more importantly, MD or SB?

Do you mean for limited? I rue the day I will see a 5 colour limited deck

Check the GTC prerelease thread. People built (and a couple won) with 5c decks. Now go. Rue! Cool

Back on topic, i cant see this as the guildgates simple because they don't show a place or anything, just BLATANTLY expose each guilds' logo. IMO, they'll either reprint the signets (which the artwork would fit perfectly) or they are from another cycle of artifacts. Im leaning towards the latter. Also, they looks like vaults of some sort. So the idea of an artifact cycle that cracks for mana (and probably something else) seems not so far fetched. Or they're guild SPELLBOMBS!

Here is how I interpret the information given in the press release.

Your guild pack will contain 2x [RTR] boosters (one standard, one guild booster), 2x [GTC] boosters (one standard, one guild booster) and 2x [DGM] boosters (both standard boosters).

    Advantages:

    * Re-uses the previously manufactured guild boosters, saving costs for WotC;
    * Guarantees four guildgates for mana-fixing, at least one of which is in your chosen guild (assuming you don't get any shocks in your DGM packs);
    * Follows the 2x [1ST], 2x [2ND], 2x [3RD] booster package format as seen in previous final small set prereleases.

EDIT: Damn. the post above beat me to it...

If the above is true, then this leaves three possibilities for the off-guild guild booster. Either:

    (1) Your off-guild booster randomly shares a colour, i.e. you choose Azorius, you might get Dimir (25%), Simic (25%), Orzhov (25%) or Boros (25%), but not Gruul (0%).
    (2) Your off-guild booster is random, i.e. Azorius is chosen, each of the GTC guilds appear with a 20% chance
    (3) Your off-guild booster is predetermined, i.e. you chose Azorius, that's got a control-style mechanic, so WotC has fixed every Azorius guildpack with a Orzhov guild booster, which is the most control style mechanic from GTC.

I also hope that it'll be (3) but i think its going to be random (1) because of the wording.

That guild pack would have four Dragon's Maze booster packs, one Gatecrash Dimir guild Prerelease pack, and one Return to Ravnica Azorius Secret guild Prerelease pack

Saying each guild pack implies that he refers to each individual guild pack as a separate thing. If it said each guild, i would believe that (3) would make sense.

Good thing i've always supported Boros since original Ravnica. Though, truth be told im (ignoring the fact that im pleased with Boros being the deal here) dissapointed. Gruul has good things and will be the only thing to put a fight against boros in limited, but there are no "OMFG" cards in Gruul. I like orzhov and will see play only thanks to Obzedat, though there are a lot of things for the odd deck at fnm. And extort is bonkers in EDH. Simic is meh. No sky swallower... And Dimir... poor Dimir. Everyone had high hopes for it. It's true that standard is quite slow compared to, say, zendikar-scars. But 4 cmc and higher for just about everything is plain stupid.

Do really geist bothers Standard that much? I mean, nearly everything is standard playable. Dont see the point. Prefer Magmaquake any day

Oh yeah you're right, I definitely should have worked that into it. Yeah the more latitude in choices you are handing your opponent, the worse the mechanics. I guess thats a derivation of the "choosing between N mechanics" in that you're expanding the pool of mechanics in a huge way (every time you could choose).

Another reason that cards like desecration demon are so much worse than the options they offer.

Desecration demon is not half bad what Soul Ransom is. They need to have creatures for it to work. Black has removal. Lots of.

Back on topic, Soul Ransom... errrr. Has nice artwork.
    Primordial: EDH monstrosity
Informator: Is it me, or it might work in a tokens deck?
Orzhov Keyrune: A wall that nets you mana. Could have been worse.
    Gruul Charm: Just no.

Im getting REALLY dissapointed with Boros here. The guildmage is only usable in limited but the keyrune? A 1/1 !?. It should have been 1/2 as in Boros Swiftblade...
As for dimir, i think we'll be drowning in blue and black mana very soon.

Thats like saying that splinter twin is a bad card because you arent allowed to build a deck around it.

I am just pointing out that this can be a key player when combined with other cards, while other people before me just were dismissing it as terrible because of what it lacked. There is a strategy to deck building that isnt about playing all of the best cards because they are all good. Synergy and strategy are key to having a deck work.

I want to build him up and use a disciple of bolas on him... but according to you im not allowed to discuss that situation because gideon is the only card allowed in the thread.

Not entirely as Jund midrange are not so based on synergy and more based on individual good cards. And lets not talk of Jund in modern...
Now, back on topic. I think its bad. Its plus one gives it a counter for each creature target opponent has. Assuming all of them attack gideon next turn, not all of them are 1/1 and you have one blocker, it will keep roughly the same loyalty counters. Its 0 makes it a swinger, annoying, but not as much as a Geist. And its ultimate is just silly.

Why so much discussion? I see it as simple as 1W: Turn any big creature into a Thragtusk.

Obzedat... You know, when the person who writes the article explicitly says its awfully powerful... I think he MIGHT be right. Comparing these to Borbogorymos and Aurelia and i think Boros is going to plain suck this time...

Aw, CMON. No suggestions? Anyways, the Demonic Taskmaster are out for Rakdos Keyrunes. I like the taskmaster, but i like more a Bloodgift turn 4 or dropping a nighthawk and having enough to cast a searing spear.

Also the Dreadbore are now on the main deck (liliana alone beat me several times). I have still to refill the sideboard though (the Ultimate Price are out)

Well, the only changes made so far (reflected in the list of the op) are:

-1 Demonic Taskmaster, -1 Vile Rebirth and -1 Tribute to Hunger
    +3 Sign in Blood.

After a night of testing, my discoveries:
-Demonic Taskmaster wins games. Seriously. Once resolved it, if i dont run out of removal, it ends the game. And if not, it kills any big flier beater and if anything i just spear it.
-The Tribute to Hunger, while effective killing pro blacks and hexproof is just useless if he has more than a creature. Probably will be cut for another Nighthawk.
-The Ultimate Price is underperforming. Olivia, Huntmasters, etc. Hell, we're in a RTR, a MULTICOLORED themed block. These will be cut as well.

  • posted a message on [[GTC]] 12/31 DailyMTG Previews: Deathpact Angel, Illusionist's Bracers, lots of small stuff
I dont care if im going to be scolded, but imo, Burning-Tree Emisary is borderline broken. Seriously so. You can see it as a free 2/2, i see it as a rite that gives you a 2/2...
Deathpact Angel is yet another beautiful card. And very playable in EDH.
Illusionist's bracers MUST be banned in Commander. At least i would.

I think this is a pretty strong budget deck.
I would try to sweep and draw more though.

    Something like this:

    -3 Demonic Taskmaster
    -2 Rakdos Charm
    -3 Vile Rebirth
    -1 Tribute to Hunger

    +4 Mutilate
    +4 Sign In Blood
    +1 Vampire Nighthawk

The Vile Rebirth are probably a no go, as the meta here is heavy on graveyard-thingies. And 4 Mutilates its probably overkill (there is no bad overkill though...). I'll make place for the sign in blood though. What about the innistrad land, that 3BR, T: 2 damage. Is it worthy?
