STOP MAKING INK-TRENDER COMMANDERS! RGWU for definition. we already got omnath, locus of creation, Aragorn, the uniter, and Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis, now we do need 4 color legends made but we need love for the other 4-color combos besides RGWU, which is yore-tiller WUBR, glint-eye UBRG, dune-brood BRGW, and witch-maw GWUB (we do have 2 witch-maw legends but it’s the same character with different abilties)
What, so because WotC has already made more RGWU legends, you think they shouldn't print a Doctor Who card that lets us play with all the Doctors in the same deck? That's a silly thing to say.
"Hey Wizards, you shouldn't be doing more of X unless you've done more of Y!"
They've made it quite well known that 4-color cards are very challenging to design from both a mechanical and flavor standpoint, so you should be grateful that you're getting more of them at all.
As Ryperior pointed out, there are other 4 color combinations it could have been with a companion that gives the 5th. actually I think the case for Rose being Green is at least as strong as for her being Blue, so a WUBR Doctor, which by the end of 10's run, there was definitely Black in the character.
I think Maro said it's not exactly deciduous because it's not a main mechanic of sets, but that they have become more open to singleton uses of different mechanics. it's a small difference, but it's one card vs like a draft theme
Saheeli is on Ixalan. They...sort of retconned Aftermath, I guess? But her art was shown as part of the set.
My hope is that it's not a retcon so much as a follow up. Talking to Rashmi, finding an omenpath and getting lucky. Apparently it has been a few months since MOM, and there are a few things that could have happened.
or it could just be a retcon because they don't take the story seriously and we shouldn't care either.
omfg.... this is so absurdly horrible I don't even know where to start.... hahah
it needs to hit to be able to draw a single card....
if somehow you hit someone and they kill it, you cannot cash in.
this thing is nowhere near to Bomat Courier and the courier was very hard to really profit over.
there's one ijmportant difference though, Menace instead of haste. this isn't going to reshape any formats, but it won't be hard to get a card or two off of it. Some EDH decks might want it, but if Standard has a RDW, that is where this will definitely have a home
This is good in white decks that put permanents on the board (all of them)
Mono-white decks, perhaps. UW Control? Nah, this guy's getting pumped by a planeswalker or two and a creature or two and that's it. You're really lucky if an artifact or enchantment can join the fray.
Number of permanents, not permanent types. In a tokens EDH deck, wach token is one, not the Goyf phrasing
tl;dr
Modern: Preordain is unbanned.
Legacy: Mind's Desire is unbanned.
Mostly irrelevant changes in my opinion, good to see unbannings but this made me cringe:
The One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters (...) While it is true that these two cards made big waves at the Pro Tour and within the format, these cards—The One Ring particularly—can fit into a variety of decks and a spread of macro-archetype strategies to comfortably compete within the format without overshadowing everything else present in Modern.
I'm not sure how immediate adoption of ring to 35% presence in metagame is not overshadowing but I have played the game for just 25 years so what do I know.
It's not a divide of Ring decks and anti Ring decks like Ragavan did. Bolt has been very prevalent at times. and they alluded to it being the new toy. aside from Tron, it wasn't key in carrying anything to new levels. I bet in the next event it's not nearly so common
I'm very worried they're going to be very heavy handed when it comes to bans since it's only once a year now. So they're going to ban stuff either for the sake of it or just to show "see? we're doing something".
And when it comes to the bans, I reckon they're going to do something like this "Tron is the best one ring deck (the most played card at the pro tour), so we need to balance it out by banning Karn, the great creator or some other card that's not selling packs that we can justify is part of the combo, while still selling packs because people want the one ring"
Or they will finally ban Ragavan now that orcish bowmasters are taking care of the wee monkey.
Maybe an irrelevant unban or two, but I have VERY little faith in potential ban decisions and modern is my favourite format (and I like tron), so I'm particularly worried. That being said, I think Wizards are in a lose/lose situation with modern. Don't do enough and people get angry, do too much and people get angry. You can't please everyone, especially not with the current state of modern, so they're just going to make themselves happy aka ban decisions based on profits.
What do you think they should do?
I'm a format outsider, but general talk and meta statistics leads me to put my best guess on The One Ring and Fury as appropriate bans.
I would agree on Fury, but not on the Ring. At least from what I saw of the tournament, it makes one deck good enough to compete again, but not too good, and it didn't show up in any meaningful way outside of Tron, so calling it a problem is silly
They need to unban some Modern stuff and get people interested in playing again.
