Seriously? Didn't they just use it to sell a pretty bad Secret Lair just a couple months ago?

Is it just me, or is it odd to keep choosing the same lands arts again and again for 'special' treatments?

Yes, very odd. It's a mostly-reprint premium-priced set, they definitely could have splashed out on commissioning new art from these artists (Is poole dead? It occurs to me he may be dead).

It's not like these were particularly high value or chase basics, unlike something such as Guru or APAC/EURO.

Poole is only 59, and very much alive, pretty sure he's even still working.

but yeah, new art, or reimagine old art. I would pay dearly for a full art of the Lorwyn flower swamp. or Unglued basics reprint, both are better options than stuff that is hard to tell from what Dominaria Remastered (an amazing set, no knocking it at all) just had.

Etched foil Omnath could be nice, but I really dislike the borderless art style, so no need to replace mine.

Mostly talking about the rings, but is there anyone you know of who is keeping track of serialized cards that have been found?

I love the art but my first impression is it seems too slow and conditional for not enough of a payoff.
Probably great for limited and offers card advantage to white weenie decks, but I'd personally be disappointed to buy an arguably overpriced booster of this set and open this up as my mythic when there are plenty of rares I'd prefer to see instead.

Personally I like when mythics are not just overpowered Ragavans, they should be the more niche, interesting cards in the deck. Also remember that this is 2 mana, it doesn't win the game by itself, but it's very easy to fit into whichever turn you want. in a weenie deck or something, it doesn't even eat up the entire turn. Drop it turn 3-4, draw 4 cards over a couple turns in white? it's not the strongest card of the set, but I bet you are going to see this on the TCG top sellers of the week list with some frequency.

This is going to bring up the argument about whether the Balrog has wings or not, isn't it?

See I never understood that being a problem for people. Fire and shadow have no srt form, and Maiar generally also don't, it isn't able to fly, but wings would be on a whim, it could change having wings or not over the course of walking down the hallway.

Oh yes, that Balrog is more like it. Flavor win and much more of a house.

this does less than any given Sword of X&Y.

Saying that this does less than a X & Y Sword is a bit like saying that any random mana rock cost less efficently than a Mox. The power level of the Mirrodin Swords is not normal but very special so it's pretty unfair to make a comparison with them.

A much, much fairier comparison is with any other equipment that make tokens every turn, and oh boy, if this sword is actually much better than most if not all of them. Not only having the virtual chance, depending on who you equip to, to make tokens in defense or attack mode is great, but the fact that the attacking tokens are flyers actually assure you at 99% that they will survive the combat and increase dramatically every turn. Maybe this Sword is not for tier 1 level modern decks, but for EDH is pretty great.

It's unfair to compare them to another 3 cast, 2 equip Legendary mythic rare Sword? With 2 of them recently coming through Standard where this gets to skip it? It doesn't go in Tron, so i don't even evaluate it for Modern, EDH only....where 1/1s are basically meaningless. I'm even just looking at other mythic rare Equipment. Seraphic Greatsword is generally considered very bad, it's a bulk mythic, but it still feels more relevant than this because the token is much beefier.

To be clear, I know not every car, even every mythic can be super flashy, but as a huge LOTR nerd who was super excted for this set, i just wish Anduril made some sort of impact on the average game. Even like an anthem effect to reflect it as more symbol than weapon would have been neat

Seems....fine? The art is the best part, I want it in foil, I love that glowing effect.

The card itself is sort of boring. When the bearer of that sword comes to fight, the other side is supposed to know that they are screwed, this does less than any given Sword of X&Y.

Careful now, we don't want to upset the mods... It's not like the 2nd amendment is protected here. Guess we cannot discuss our gripes and how we are unhappy with the race swapping decisions that were made. That anyone who brings it up is labeled as an old fuddy-duddy racist.

So let's bite our tongues and conform. This the new normal.

do you just....have no awareness of any part of the US Constitution aside from the 2nd Amendment? It's the only part conservatives seem to talk about these days, and unless you are threatening physical violence, you actually mean the 1st.

And I can call this art cool and that warrior king awesome and still wish we got the 'straw hair' version. It is a touch more relevant than with Aragorn. but nobody wants to hear it because certain people foamed at the mouth about Aragorn when it had no relevance, Personally i think there's a more interesting discussion to be had about it here, but that whole line of discussion got used up when it didn't matter. So just stp talking about it. buy the set or don't, WoC doesn't care, this set will sell great.

Gimli's Fury seems solid. I will never say no to instant speed trample for my commander. I know in the book (which they are drawing from) it wasn't the troll that stabbed Frodo, but some mechanical reference would have been fun
