I don't aim by 4. I aim by turn 5 or 6 basing and assume they will whiff the first time. Just put them in ballista range. If they don't whiff well there is nothing i could do. They are lucky.
And frankly woodweever puzzleknot is an horrible card by itself, the very idea of a paying 5 mana to gain 6 life is so inefficient that, as an aggro deck, I usually just sight and put another monster on the field. It is a speed bump.
I don't like the Temur marvel don't get me wrong, i just think the public outcry is a little exagerated, when you play the match and do the math. Or maybe i got tough skin. I played during splinter twin era in Modern, the Jeskai ascendensy and egg in modern too , Treasure cruise and Dig trough time in Modern and Legacy(Still shiver UR delver in legacy with treasure cruise).
So maybe my tolerance for broken deck is higher.
It is probably the best deck in standard that i'll give that to you. It got innevitability and some Highly variant nut draw. Is that goood enough for a ban? Based on power level i don't think so. Based on economic and people leaving standard(The sub 1000 tournament in montreal was an example of that, a lot of people pay 140 CAD for 10 draft instead of 100 CAD for the gp) , maybe.
This article is just feeling, no math to back it up. I don't really care about feeling.
Yes we could use more proactive answer (manglehorn, transgress the mind , distended mindbender) for other color (White and Red deck seems lackluster in there sideboard plan, maybe a threathen effect could be nice for sideboard currently)
Against marvel, i can race with all my heart out instead of bluffing a removal spell. It is just a race, can i beat it before they marvel twice. Is it fun? A little. Is the matchup fair? I think so. Post sideboard it get bettor with the discard, blossoming defense and evasive creature. Only 8 % of the time they will get ulamog twice in a row. I'm ok with these odds. I can win these game.
The deck seem oppressive because it is over represented and people are notoriously bad at calculating odds. And when you are hit with bad luck, it linger and you become irrational.
They need
4 mana (not that easy to get on time when you are pressured)
A Marvel (normally trivial but not garanted (could do the math for oth these point when i have time)
A Payoff (40% chance, probably more if I include puzzleknot and and glimmer of genius as card that almost guaranty a respin)
6 Energy (Will not not do the math as they are complicated, but by turn 4 it is pretty hard, turn 5 seem trivial)
If any of these condition fail, the deck is a slow inneficient deck
But maybe because my favorite format is modern, i'm ok with the aggro vs combo race. I'm used to it.
(Not statiscally relevant but i went 3-1 against marvel at gp montreal twice beating a resolved Ulamog)
Come on even with 7 payoff card, they whiff like 60% of the time(verified with hypergeometric distribution because it felt a lot more than that and i know can redo next turn spinning), and it is not game over for everyone
I agree it is not fun and seem to push midrange deck out of the format but it is very swingy.
Stop having a confirmation bias about all the time it happen turn 4.
Yeah it was a surprise and i was quite puzzled about when to find the right timing for my path to exile(answer was before coco resolved because in response to my path he just x=0 againt)
And yeah it exactly that, an aggro plan with a somewhat crapppy combo tackled into it. He could put renegade rallier and saffi in it now and stay on theme.
He still play it i saw it again in my LGS last monday
He then proceed to activate mirror entity for 0 killing some human but the Xathrid Necromancer and the mirror entity survived because of a +1/+1 counter previousely placed on them. So he get some zombie.
He activate mirror entity again killing the zombie he created but changing them into human before, so they died and respawn again.
i have won maybe 50% of eldrazi match (bant and colorless)
Game 1 can be won with the combo, a big knight of reliquary and kessig wolf run, or flyer beatdown
Sideboard is usually reflector mage blessed alliance and kitchen finks
Moorland haunt also helped me by recycling creature into another round of chump blocker
The most important thing i think is to keep path to exile or spell squeller if you anticipate a tough knot seer

She is comming down faster than the eidolon
Ad nauseam
Pure control deck.
Emeria deck?
Scapeshift?
Played normally with champion of parish, thalia lieutenant, dark confidant Xathrid Necromancer, anafenza the foremost.
And then he cast collected company getting a mirror entity and thalia's lieutenant.
He then kill me with zulaport cutthroat
5 color elemental pretty fun deck and brutal when it worked. I'll share the decklist when i get home
Mana base was a charm with 4 cavern of souls 4 primal beyond 4 ancient ziggurat 3 reflecting pool
Or would it just improve matchup that seems already good like jund and control.
Because it is one of the grindiest two drop ever printed
