Ugh. Sorry guys, but I really don't like anything out of this set. Even at 450 after scanning the complete spoiler list everything seems outclassed and just really uninteresting to me. It may just be personal opinion, but this set in general just feels really lazy and poorly designed.

The only thing I can think of being somewhat useful is Flurry of Horns right now, considering it gives you two creatures for 1 in Red, which seems to be always down on card advantage. It also fits the curve really nicely.

Supply-Line Cranes seems okay, but I'll wait for people to test it first before I give it a shot.

Amen. The only thing anyone has to feel bad about is that our Spoiler season sucks. Otherwise, our meta is great.

The only Common spoiled today seems to be Renowned Weaver, which is SOMEWHAT compete-able with Centaur's Herald, which isn't even a card on our radar it seems. At least it's a functional reprint and interesting, but doesn't seem cubable to me.

I wouldn't even say Font is better than Think Twice. TT can trips immediately, and gives you room to decide when you want to process your card advantage. Font is on the field, and can be subject to removal easily. I don't like it.

I'm supporting Dredge at the moment and I couldn't see making room for Font of Return quite honestly. There are PLENTY of ways so far (and much more effective) to get creatures back from the GY at the moment for me.

It's seriously uncubable. Why would you ever take a situational based, overpriced creature like that in your blue section when we have cards like Benthic Giant?

Seriously losing hope fast for this set quite honestly.

Goblin are actually okish. You can run Goblin Matron alongside Tarfire and Warren Weirding. Those two removal spells, Sparksmith, Spikeshot Goblin, Stingscourger, Mogg War Marshal, Goblin Chirurgeon, and Skinbrand Goblin give you some nice utility. Add the cubeable Dragon Fodder or Krenko's Command and a Goblin Grenade, and you have a nice little sub-theme. There's other Goblins too just strewn about like Mogg Fanatic, Riot Piker, and Intimidator Initiate. By no means "Tribal Goblins", but some cute, viable, and ultimately good synergies.

I was actually thinking of running Spikeshot Goblin for a while. Repeated removal with Synergy to every single Power pump spell? Pretty legit, and a lot of reach.

Omenspeaker/Starfish (one of the two) are on my short list to come in once I cut a couple bounce spells, which actually is something that needs to happen. I've felt there are too many in my cube. Any help pruning would be appreciated because I honestly can't decide which are the worst of them, other than Aethersnipe.

I saw Drift of Phantasms mentioned- is that guy good? It grabs a pretty reasonable number of good targets I guess, but is the other mode worth it?

He's been solid. I'm aggressively supporting Ghostly Flicker, so he's necessary to grab that, he also grabs Capsize. However, sometimes a 0/5 Flying is exactly what you need to survive. I like split cards a lot. Giving more options to players, more choices to make, always makes for interesting decisions and games.

The only Bounce spell you play that I don't is Silent Departure. Sorcery speed was the dealbreaker for me. Not being able to save your own dudes from removal is half the utility. Aethersnipe is a boss. I'm not running him either actually right now, but he's definitely a great card.

I'm going to be dropping Departure for Flicker today - there's enough bounce in blue (and much better) to make it definitely the weakest of the lot, and Flicker pseudo takes it spot as bounce with the right tools. It's never really drafted in my group.

<3 Aura Gnarlid, pet card becoming staple for my cube.

Also his nickname, Gnarls Barkley, is awesome! Rofl

    Genius.

The 1 power is huge definitely. Being able to kill X/1's comes a lot. Oh but it's Scry for 2, so not that good.

Ah shame my mistake, I thought it was Scry 3 Frown Still though, I think the ETB effect is still pretty strong.

    TESTING SHALL DECIDE!

At 450 though right? Golgari Brownscale is a key role player for any Green graveyard deck, absolutely.

Yessir. Sorry didn't see this post OMG

Related to Scryfish, what purely-defensive creatures are you guys playing in Blue?

    I'm only playing:
    Omenspeaker
    Calcite Snapper
    Drift of Phantasms
    Sea Gate Oracle

Now Blue control hasn't exactly struggled. It's been a fine archetype in my current list, going 2-1 often enough, but looking at what creatures I'm actually playing, that might be incentive enough to play Scryfish, because I simply need blue blockers.

I'm not running Omenspeaker but for ages I've heard people tell me how good it is - for me though the low CMC Blue section is just super tight so dropping something for it will be difficult. I've got pretty much everything else in there you could expect though. To be honest I like Omenspeaker even more than the fish though, since it lets you get that Scry down the turn it comes down (which in any tempo or control shell is super important on T2), and it Scry's for 3 - which takes 4 turns for the Scrystar. Let's not forget it's 1 Power too, which can't be overlooked.

It is super niche. I won't be using it personally. However, if you support both Dredge and Auras/Enchantments in multiple colors, it could have enough utility to make the cut.

I have both (kind of), so I'll slip it in a few drafts and see how it does I guess. I really feel like I need to pop in Aura Gnarlid before then though.

As someone who has been running Dredge for a while now, i'd be more willing to throw it in to support that archetype rather than its intended purpose of digging for enchanments and such. The problem is even then, its a VERY niche role and other cards do it much better. Even at 450 with that kind of shell it wouldnt be an instapick for me.

Not to mention trying to find a slot for it :/ even if you did support A Hexproof/enchantment shell in your cube, Im not really convinced itd be an allstar. If anyone tests it id like to know though Smile

The only one that looks interesting to me is Ajani's Presence, but nothing else really :/ The Satyr might make some waves in constructed though, especially in those blitzy U/R decks.

Yeah ntDars, not sure what to make of it all, but to try to get something out of the list, here's some of the "recommended cards" that seemed worth discussing. Any of these stand out as blasphemous to not play? I have reasons for all the cuts, but if there's enough argument for a card, I could cycle them back in.

    Recommended cards:
Journey to Nowhere, Lone Missionary, Arrest, Icatian Javelineers, Prismatic Strands, Hyena Umbra, Razor Golem

    Impulse, Claustrophobia, Hands of Binding

    Blind Zealot, Soulcage Fiend

Burst Lightning, Searing Blaze, Rift Bolt, Manic Vandal, Vulshok Sorcerer, Stingscourger

Prey Upon, Ambush Viper, Garruk's Companion, Silhana Ledgewalker, Utopia Sprawl, Edge of Autumn, Werebear

The only one of those I'm not running is Garruk's Companion to make way for Golgari Brownscale to support the Dredge/Graveyard shell, which has been working really well so far. The Companion is okay, but for a T2 two Toughness creature that isn't really that splash able I'm not really that impressed - especially when it's much easier for green to get out something much better on T2.

The cubes are not separated by rarity and to be completely honest I am not interested in Pauper / Peasant cubes at all.

Then why did you even come here? To give us homework?
