There are a lot worse combat boosting enchantments that see play, and I see GratVio in a lot of combat based red EDH decks.Posted in: Articles

How many instants and sorceries are you running that Oath of Nissa isn't reliably a "G: look at top 3 and draw a card"? It's one mana draw in standard, plus card selection. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
...well... crap... I saw guildmage and my brain instantly went 3... I will change that, thank you.
Servitude grabs every creature with X cost exactly. Since Messenger and Guildmage are both 3, it would grab them both.
10x Swamp
4x Isolated Chapel
4x Godless Shrine
3x High Priest of Penance
3x Geralf's Messenger
3x Obzedat, Ghost Council
3x Crypt Ghast
3x Vizkopa Guildmage
4x Lingering Souls
4x Mutilate
2x Immortal Servitude
Enchantments (6)
3x Exquisite Blood
3x Blind Obedience
Planeswalkers (2)
2x Liliana of the Dark Realms
3x Duress
3x Tribute to Hunger
3x Vampire Nighthawk
3x Ultimate Price
3x Oblivion Ring
Well, our win condition ideally is to infinite with Vizkopa Guildmage + Exquisite Blood. However, if this doesn't happen, the life swings from Geralf's, Ghost Dad, and extort triggers should be enough to do the job.
CARD CHOICES:
Immortal Servitude:
The ability to bring back High Priest and Guildmage at the same time seems pretty good. Post-board, being able to assemble a death fleet of Nighthawks and Messengers seems like a good play. Thank you to everyone who pointed out Guildmage is BW, not 1BW... not sure what I was thinking...
Blind Obedience:
I know, multiples don't do much. But having one out early shuts off the aggressive decks played at my locals (RDW, Jund Zombies), while having multiples in the deck mean that you can't remove the one, and expect an easy road.
Mutilate over Terminus:
Unless you miracle Terminus (and I'm trying to remove the luck factor), it is essentially a worse Merciless Eviction. Mutilate can do the work well 90% of the time.
Thoughts, Hate Mail, Comments, I welcome them all!
Yeah, I used to go to CCGhouse, but I'd rather support the local shop (Hero Support) in Washougal. Also, to the OP, the card being damaged and stuff meant Robert probably did the order. Guy can't work his way out of a paper bag.
WSZ is a great card for deck IMO because of the instant speed token generation. This is essentially a control deck. Having options when you have a ton of mana at the end of their turn is always good. Thank you for the reply.
I love this idea, and it is being strongly considered. Thank you.
Cube? Only one I can think of.
OT: Lord of the Void
Limited: 4/5. if this thing goes off, it's gonna do some work. Not quite a Pack 3 must have, but something worth going into black Pack 1 for.
Constructed: 3/5. Best friends with both Frites and Heartless Summoning.
It died a long time ago. Wizards hates combo in standard. Closest we've had recently is technically Infect if you want to call that a "combo" deck.
Honestly, I think they would get rid of counter magic if they thought they could get away with it. They openly prefer a format where the biggest creature wins rather than a format where you sit still for 6 turns knowing whatever you cast will either be countered or die immidiately.
A balance would be nice, but I've learned not to expect miracles. Balanced cards and cards that sell really well rarely overlap, and the bottom line of their financial statement means a lot more to Rosewater and company than player satisfaction.
Limited 3.5/5. Prohibitive mana cost, but removing threats and leaving behind a fat body is always welcome.
Constructed 2.5/5. Reanimator likes it, and the fact that it can be recurred with Restoration Angel is pretty sweet. But it needs to do more at 7 to see play in many decks, and it doesn't do enough.
Aurelia's Fury:
Limited: 5/5. Clear a board, funnel extra mana, enable an alpha strike, this baby does it all. Grab it first, grab it always.
Constructed: 4.5/5. There are few situations where this card isn't amazing for R/W. A true weapon with many uses.
Serene Remembrance:
Limited: 3/5. Not a lot of use, but can stave off mill, or get back that big beater you watched die to Aurelia's Fury.
Constructed: 2/5. A sideboard card at best.
Simic Keyrune
Limited: 3.5/5. It's mana, it's a body, it's does nice cheap work.
Constructed: 2.5/5. it can enable some interesting evolve tricks, but that's about it.
I've always had a problem against Zur (Since if he attacks twice, the game is over), but I have a favorable matchup against other popular generals (Kaalia, Scion, Thrax) and I feel an even matchup against Edric.
How does it help your blood pressure to be so balls-bustingly negative? I'd be willing to bet you complained that Geist of Saint Traft wasn't a 3/3 and Thragtusk didn't cost less.
Limited: 4/5. Tidy body, decent effect.
Constructed: 3/5. This has a home in certain decks. Modern Infect may find a use for it, and the ability to give trample at 2 mana can't be underestimated.
Gyre Sage:
Limited: 2.5/5. Only as good as what you can drop with it. But extra mana in limited is never a bad move.
Constructed: 3/5. Someone will break this card. The slower your meta, the better he becomes.
Thrull Parasite
Limited: 3.5/5 Small body, won't win any trades for you, but extort at 1 mana is terrific. Not sure how often the second ability will matter in limited.
Constructed: 3/5 Will be as good as extort allows it to be, but it is a great start.
Leyline Phantom
Limited 1.5/5. Well... it does something... I guess. Every set needs filler... and its only a common...
Constructed 1/5. Nope. NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE. At 5 mana, you need more than this.

I know I could use the high end tutors, and I am trying to acquire them. Seen the price of an Imperial Seal recently?
I know Liliana of the Veil has no real purpose here other than sacrifice, but I have her in because I had her art altered to be full art, and it looks FANTASTIC. If you're in the Northwest and play at PTQs, Rebecca Marson does fantastic alterations at these events.
Thoughts, love, hate, I welcome it all!
