I played this deck today on modo for a while. It feels like Kuldotha red from a couple years back. Nut draw is insane, mediocre draws fold up and die pretty quickly.
Online seems like a terrible environment for it anyway though, mono blue is everywhere and that matchup feels horrible, main deck omen speaker, frostburn, and tidebinder are pretty annoying and a 3+ devotion master of waves is game over unless you have legion loyalist, and even then you need to be able to hit lethal because you're going to lose loyalist on the attack.
Hey guys, I'm attending the first legacy tournament (I think) in Korea and have the chance to borrow a friends Elves deck, the only problem is we're short a birchlore rangers and its going to be impossible to get one by the end of this weekend. My question is, is it possible to drop it for anything? My game plan right now is just to throw in an elvish mystic but please let me know if that's too naive.
Is it really all that unreasonable that Ben Stark wanted the exact wording to see how Thundermaw interacts with Baneslayer's protection from red?
Assuming the worst about the pro players is getting old.
I actually thought it was a pretty cool Jedi move. I was just curious how people would react. I play with Koreans so Jedi **** doesn't happen very often.
Watching world coverage this week this exchange happened in the Quarterfinals between Stark and Shenhar.
Ben stark had mana for.. maybe Ajani? But if he tapped out he was dead to thundermaw (Shenhar had it in hand) Otherwise he did have Cryptic to at least buy a turn of damage and counter thundermaw.
Going to his main phase Ben Stark looks at Shenhar and asks "So what does Thundermaw do again?"
If you haven't seen it I recommend watching it. The academy would pass on Shenhar as he attempts to act like he doesn't have the dragon. Giving up the information Ben needed to know not to tap out and keep all his counter magic at the ready.
My question is what was a good way to respond? Do you look whistfully at you your deck and say a line like "When I play one we can read it" Do you call a judge? Do you fumble for an ipad to pull it up? Do you just give a dead stare and remind Ben he needs to read cards more?
Feb 2011 Average Players per event (not counting SCG Open): 50.9
Feb 2013 Average Players per event (not counting SCG Open): 30.2
So Legacy is going to die because 20 less people per events are showing up over the last two years? Also note that the site is missing information for some of the events, and that because it carries no data for the years before 2011 it's impossible to track this as a trend. There simply isn't really enough information to make such a claim. I'm interested to see whether the numbers from 2011 are part of a downward trend, or the peak of an upward one.
Not disqualifying it may be the peak of an upward trend. But I wouldn't look at it as 20 people, I'd look at it more as 41% decline. It's quite alarming.
So what should I say if my opinion is that Modern is disappointing and that the direction in which Standard is going is somewhat stupefied in comparison with what it was?
I didn't even expect the last one to be polemic in the slightest given that WotC has been rather public about its effort to simplify the game.
It's easy to infer that you're saying the format is less skillful.
The game isn't really much more simple. Look at previous standards what Standard format was more complicated? (Combo summer?, Necropotence? Affinity? Elephant Opposition? Caw blade?) Show me a standard that 8s actually more complex. Psychatog? These decks are all pretty straight forward.
Commons have been being simplified, and we don't have cards like Sharazad or Snowfall anymore. Is that really so bad?
Your opinion seems aimed at modern and it always annoys me to see legacy players whine about a format that has nothing to do with theirs. Modern isn't what is killing legacy the ban list keeps it from being Legacy lite. I mean I understand you're on step 1 and 2 (anger and denial) but the sad state is the reserve list in combination with Magic being a global game now means it's gonna die. (Gotta make it to acceptance)
Be happy you have SCG open's and GP's legacy masters just isn't going to happen.

What is the response here?

I'll give the list another look for brave.
Vault could just as easily be ghost quarter, I like the idea of being more aggressive but if there was a lot of tron it's what I could go for.
