The first few things i'm noticing is whether or not Simian Spirit Guide is worthwhile. It allows me to pump out early Magus's, Blood Moons, Nahiri's, Arbiters, or Either Thalia, but it does lower my creature count which already feels a little low.
I know what you mean. I'm currently brewing a WR list, and I'm (slowly) typing up a mini-primer for WR D&T. I may end up running SSG out of the sideboard, or alternatively, I may end up running CotV out of the sideboard. T1 Chalice on 1 is rough against a lot of decks, and may be worth considering as a possible line of play.
I'm not personally a fan of Nahiri (because it's expensive through a Thalia tax, and I tend to like having early lines of play), but do some testing and let us know how it goes. I'm sure it will occasionally win games, but I just envision it being more useful as something else.
For what it's worth, Lt. Glitter also does testing on the WR version, so maybe he has better insights than I do. [/quote]
I've been playing a lot of Gideon Ally of zendikar in my Wg list I've been playing and while it sometimes comes up, thalia is hoenstly usually perished by the time turn 4 rolls around.
Also with my meta currently full of Control, Bant Eldrazi, and Valakut decks this feels like it'll give me an edge greater than any of the other lists. As for Grafdigger's cage while it is an issue, between sideboard options like wear // tear, Chalice, Engineered Explosives, and Smash to smithereens i'm not too concerned about a cage. Worst comes to worst i nahiri until i find one or i board out emrakul and a few nahiri's. I'll be sure to post updates to this as I get more testing.
So I've been brewing some Wr lists and as i was doing so I realized that the Nahiri Emrakul combo might be something worth exploring in Death and taxes. From my experience the deck often has trouble closing out a game or just needing some general utility and with our disruption and tempo/control elements Nahiri could be very reasonable in our deck. Now I could be completely and totally crazy as it definitely is a little bit of a nonbo with vial/thalia GoT/Arbiter but i'm definitely going to start exploring a Nahiri and Taxes shell and i'd love any help or opinions people on here would be willing to offer. I'm still in the VERY early stages of deck design and it definitely needs some tuning but this is the list I'm currently working from.

I'm going to start my testing here but I figured I'd share this with all you lovely people and see if we can come out with a powerful new variant of Death and Taxes for Modern!
Does Inspiring Vantage finally Give Wr decks a consistent enough manabase to start becoming viable? My meta is starting to become weak to blood moon style effects and I'm starting to look into the red splash but couldn't find much on it in the Less often used splashes part of the tread or pretty much anywhere from my searching. Thoughts?
Went 6-3 on Day one of the SCG open this weekend with a Wg list. I'll attempt to post a more detailed report later but i just got back from the venue and i'm very tire. I will note i lost my win and in in the 9th round to go x-3 and x-2-1 went to 65th so that was kinda a tilt. Still really happy with my end results for my first competitive REL event.
At the very least i can post the list i played now.
I'm heading to the SCG open in syracuse this weekend and running Wg Taxes but I haven't quite decided on a list so i'd really apreciate if people on here would be willing to help me narrow down my 75.
This is the 60 i've been running since Eldritch Moon Released.
It's been working pretty well for me and i'm fairly happy with it though I have one thing i'm unsure of but i'll get to that when i post What i'm trying to narrow down my sideboard too.
This is mostly where things get hard. Being Wg we have access too many great sideboard options. Here's the current 17 cards i'm trying to narrow down to 15 and would really love all of your opinions on.
Before I leave it up here's something i've been considering and i'd love all your opinions on.
I've been VERY impressed with Selfless Spirit and i'm wondering if my mainboard split should be 2x Qasali Pridemage 1x Selfless Spirit or 2x Selfless Spirit 1x Qasali Pridemage. If i go for the latter it's one less cut i need to make from my sideboard as i'd just move it to my main but i'm unsure which is the better mainboard option.
Sorry for the long and kind of wordy post but I really do appreciate everyone on here and would love the help. This will be my first competitive REL event and i'm hoping to put up a decent showing. I'll likely post a report after the event ends
So I've been messing around with Wg D&T and have been very happy with it's consistency over the Eldrazi list i was running previously. However I am unsure about what 3 mana "Beater" I want to be playing in my deck. Having Access to Mirran Crusader, Kitchen Finks, Blade Splicer, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Loxodon Smiter I'm fairly unsure which I'd like to run. I've been testing this deck
Using Loxodon Smiter as my beater of choice, due to a fairly large prevelance of Gixis, Jund, and Jeskai Control in my meta. Still I'm really testing for the Syracuse open where i expect i much broader metagame. I was wondering if anyone has experience running other of these beaters in a Wg build and could give me opinions on which i should run and if it's worth using sideboard slots on others. I hadn't been overly impressed with Brimaz specifically but wonder how different it is with exalted triggers abound.
However I'm Very interested in testing the new Thalia. I can't decide if i just keep running this list and just swap the 2 Wall of Resurgence's for the new thalia or if I try something similar to this
New to the Legacy Variant of the deck. Can anyone explain to me why many recent list's I've been seeing have been moving away from mangara of corondor.
Thanks for any answers and Thanks for the wonderful thread to help me transition to the legacy variant of D&T
@deathandcatmix Thanks I appreciate it. I'm still going trying and tweaking to find a mainboard that I like. The only thing that has been consistent in my testing is getting crushed by elves as it's a large portion of my meta.
So I'm looking for good sideboard cards for elves in a Mono White version with the Blue Microsplash and was wondering if anyone's tested Magus of the moat? It seems like it'd be a hard card for Elves to win through once it's on board but I was wondering if anyone who's tested it in their 75 has some helpful insight on it. Is it good in any other matchups? Thanks for all the advice on here and thanks in advance
Quick Question. Has anyone tried running Boros Reckoner as a beater in Mono White or RW builds of the deck? If so what was the consensus on the card in the deck?
Game one: I was on the play. Played a seachrome coast and passed. My Opponent went Stomping Ground Wild Nacatl. I went Ghost Quarter Leonin Arbiter. He went windswept heath kird ape. I untapped, played a plains. Ghost quartered his Stomping Ground, then path'd both nacatl and the ape and he conceded.
Game Two: He had the nuts. Guide Guide Goyf Command Command. I didn't draw any sideboard cards.
Game three: Went much like the first game but he played his fetchland first. I ended up beating down with a 2 golems and a flickerwisp to end the game quickly.
Win 2-1. 1-0
Round Two: Affinity
Game one he beats me down with the Inkmoth plus 2x plating. Loss
Game 2: I managed to stabilize and my opponent made some bad blocks. My Opponent forgot golems (and mutavault) got first strike from Blade Splicer. the Crossroads and Finks random lifegain was the key to winning this game as i didn't draw any of my sideboard hate. Win
Game 3: I kept a one lander with a kataki and a stony silence. he played turn 2 Griapur aether grid and just pinged me to death :/ Loss
1-2: Record 1-1
Round 3: UR Twin.
Game one: I had a Vial on 2 and 3 with a wingmare and thalia on field and a spellskite and flickerwisp in hand. He V-cliqued me saw my hand and conceded. Win
Game 2 i had a spellskite, Forgetender and Worship in play. He conceded at time in the round as i was at 1 and he had used all his Cryptics and snaps.
Win 2-0: 2-1 record
Round 4. Abzan Company.
Game 1 we both have mindcensors on field but i had an Arbiter. I kept him off of Gavony township and double white to eventually beat him down with Serra Avenger. Win
Games 2 and 3 he went off with township and i just couldn't beat his larger creatures.
I'm not personally a fan of Nahiri (because it's expensive through a Thalia tax, and I tend to like having early lines of play), but do some testing and let us know how it goes. I'm sure it will occasionally win games, but I just envision it being more useful as something else.
