I like these new toolkit artifact variants for ninjas! Wicked cool dudes.
Gotta say before I post this random decklist, I did not read all 55 pages. I dunno what the verdict was on Odric...
*EDIT* I've done some playtesting and got mana screwed plenty, but seriously guys, those tactical drops of Silence and Path to Exile are absolute bombs once your horde starts forming. It'll put the game clock at about 6-7 turns maximum. Only online though, I don't play with people who have more dedication/disposable income than I do haha
If you guys were discarding your butts off or dredging or whatever, I'd suggest tossing in a few Vengeful Pharaoh. It's just so wonderful when he's sitting in your graveyard and nobody remembers what he does because nobody plays him.
I bet you anything that your builds would be better with Skirsdag High Priest. Even though those zombies come out tapped, there are some creatures that simply wont be attacking that he can use for that wicked Morbid ability.
Speaking of some of your creatures taking a back seat, both Disciple of Bolas and Immortal Servitude really ought to be considered as major bomb spells.
1. If your Skirsdag managed to poop out a demon, that's 5 life and 5 cards, helping offset any Blood Artists or Bobs that may have fallen or not come up.
2. Your main heavy hitters cost under 2cmc. Therefore as a 5 drop, Servitude would usually end a game. (Especially when paired with a Mutilate or Killing Wave. The latter coming in at 2cmc, and allowing you to bring back any 1 drops same turn for an extra 4cmc Servitude. A board wipe followed by zombie tokens, travellers, and champions? Duh.)
*EDIT*
I dug around a bit and Children of Korlis and Orzhov Charm are also great for utility and reanimation of key players. If you're really stressing recursion/reanimation then another sweet target would be Loyal Sentry. In which case you could axe some PtE and increase your human count. Maybe trade 1 for 1 if you're still nervous.
I posted my own Mill deck today before I found this glorious masterpiece!
Seriously good hustle on everybody's part.
When it comes to the Leyline problem I think most people would agree that Sanctity is so rarely played that it hardly warrants consideration. That said, bouncing permanents seems to be the best bet from my perspective. My favorite way of doing that has got to be pulling out a miracle with Devastation Tide as it completely ignores targets and is a great board wipe.
Unfortunately that'll mess with the precious crab :-(
On another side note I was experimenting with a 4x Silence as a way to stall out the opposition. Not only would it afford extra turns with the crabs but it actually manages to get around the Leyline of Sanctity problem!! ( though i think we can all agree nobody will be sideboarding that thing until RDW or our precious mill post PTQ wins)
Everything noted, I absolutely believe that mill REQUIRES a 4x on both Surgical Extraction and Extirpate. As a turn 0 or turn 1 drop, you always get to search the opponents deck and determine the strategy, an invaluable asset if the deck turns out more reactionary than we think.
tl;dr: try out Silence in Mill and see what happens, it'll be tough to use your wacky computer program to see how it effects the game though...
The format really has that much search that Archive Trap wouldn't be a dead draw? That's absolutely the biggest fear I have in using it, that I would be forced to pair with with Ghost Quarter which is so tough to fit as a 4 of in a 3 color.
I've since wiped out the 1-ofs and a few remands to make room for an extra land but that's about it. Late game, this deck doesn't like drawing lots of lands :-(
Yes I'm one of the goons pushing Mill as a feasible win-con in Modern
Since Cockatrice went down I have been mulling (milling) some ideas for just such a deck because I think it's just such a wonderful way to win a game. That said I have been out of the Modern loop for quite some time so I haven't the slightest what the format looks like after the new infusion from Modern Masters.
As you can also see I'm a longtime lurker and just getting around to posting decks now and then, so bear with me and my feeble apprentice baby steps.
So as you can see there aren't any critters, not even a Hedron Crab. I do this only to free up spaces for more controlling spells, that way my win clock doesn't have to be down to 4-6 turns in order to get that mill.
Ensnaring Bridge and Liliana are the two best options for keeping opposing critters off my face. When running the deck I supposed that most times I dropped Lily, she would survive long enough to hose one creature or at least trade cards like she does.
I can be convinced to lose those Remands in favor of more efficient counter magic, I just like the cantrip.
Finally, the lands are low only because the total CMC of the deck is quite low by itself if you count those miracle costs!
Input is super dooper welcome and I really would like if somebody took this pony for a ride and reported back since I can't get online magic done much and assembling this beast in paper would cost something like $700 YIKES!
I'm surprised you're not running any Ghost Quarters to force that Archive Trap. Personally I might rather go with the Trapmaker's Snare and reduce the number or Archives and add some Ravenous Trap.
4 Extirpate and Surgical do absolutely nothing to the boards tate. And most of the time nothing to your opponent's hand either.
Given you've got nothing to do against a creature that's actually resolved apart from chump block with your dudes, speed is a necessity.
Ghost Quarters is a pretty good niche idea it would be a nice extra to toss out there.
However Trapmaker's Snare would force a subtheme that I am definitely not trying to go for. The Ravenous Trap is totally count anathema to the deck idea in general.
The point, really, is to bludgeon with mill, and pick apart anti-mill cards and combo pieces with the usually FREE Surgical Extraction at instant speed.
So this is going to be a relatively short post, I am simply not up to snuff with some of you hardcore guys out there.
I had been experimenting in the varied formats of Magic once I got back in to it last year. Then I found Cockatrice
Long story short I quickly found myself playing a lot more Modern than anything else because of the incredible diversity of playstyles my opponents would throw at me.
One day my luck was particularly bad and I went up against roughly 9 decks featuring Emrakul in some capacity and I raged really hard.
That is where this deck comes in. The instant speed playset removal available in Black is the basis of this mill deck as it allows you to bypass some of the standard mill-barriers that good players use in their decks.
Aside from this, casual red and blue disruption combined with hearty levels of black targeted discard meant that I could quickly dismantle a strategy as long as I played my opponent (this is NOT a combo deck).
There are some recent changes that I wanted to test but unfortunately Cockatrice went down and now I cannot. That's why this thread is even here. I really hope that somebody out there will take the time to adopt this deck, tweak it, and smother it with love in the hopes that someday I'll see a variant on a Top 8 list.
